Benedict Cumberbatch Enters The Dragon In 'The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug'

Benedict Cumberbatch is currently starring as Kahn in Star Trek Into Darkness, where he has received great reviews. Later this year, Cumberbatch returns to the big screen as WikiLeaks founder, Julian Assange, who released classified information to the public in the drama The Fifth Estate. The film is directed by Academy Award winner Bill Condon. You can bet there will be a lot of movie award talk for this film, including for Cumberbatch's performance.

Benedict Cumberbatch Felt a Moral Responsibility Portraying Julian Assange in The Fifth Estate

Benedict Cumberbatch is one of the most in demand actors in films today. After his great performance as Kahn in Star Trek Into Darkness, Cumberbatch has been rumored to be landing major roles.  Most recently, he is rumored to eventually be replacing Daniel Craig as James Bond, once Craig decides he is done playing the character.   

Cumberbatch is currently playing a modern version of Sherlock Holmes on the BBC, and will next be seen in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.  He will also be playing Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, in the Fifth Estate. Cumberbatch says the idea of playing “007” would be very exciting, and that it has been a perfect storm of iconic, great roles, which have been offered to him.
