Like You Used To

Often under appreciated but never forgotten, Diamond D is easily one of the best producers on the mic. Whether you mess with his work from D.I.T.C or still bump 'Stunts, Blunts, & Hip Hop' on the regular, D is just as ambitious today, even with his OG status. Going for a remix that's reminiscent of The East Flatbush Project's "Tried By 12," his take on the Nitty Scott, MC featured "Boyz II Men" taken from Blu & Nottz' 2013 released 'Gods In The Spirit' EP, truly bears the Diggin' in the Crates Crew stamp of approval. Where the original version relied on triumphant horns, courtesy of Nottz, D ventures into a completely different direction, going for a minimalistic instrumental that still packs enough punch to cause a dizzy spell for any true head. Diamond D's remix of "Boyz II Men" is featured on the 'iTunes Deluxe Edition' of Coalmine Records' ten year anniversary compilation, 'Unearthed', as well as the CD and vinyl edition of 'Gods In The Spirit,' both of which are now available. Stay tuned for the complete full length of Blu & Nottz' collaborative efforts, with their forthcoming anthology, 'Gods In The Spirit, Titans In The Flesh.'

Up next on Soul Clap Records, the label that brought you the funk and all that stomping to move your trunk, we're smoothing it out with something truly deep. Presenting the break out debut of talented young David Marston. His roots reach back to his city of birth, Chicago, then spread to the island of Jamaica, where he grew up fascinated with the new world of sound around him. Early guitar training and eclectic musical influences exposed him to classic rock, the blues, jazz, reggae and dub; inexorably the emotive power of music took its hold on him. Now he represents the city of Philadelphia and strives to make music that combines varied, contrasting, and diverse musical elements in a manner that is both intricate and elegant. 

We originally took notice of David a couple years back when he sent us "Gruv", a deep saxophone driven bomb that became the A side of the Jamaicalia EP. Then it took over a year for him to feel ready with his next body of music, which included the future Deep 4 Life anthem "I Don't Want", "My Love Will Be Crying" and "Trust Me". For this EP we also have the world premier of Gemini Love aka Crew Love's three headed and two faced monster, Eli Goldstein, Gadi Mizrahi and Nick Monaco, who have gotten together to present a punky, funky remix of "I Don't Want". 

About his EP, titled Jamaicalia, in David's words: 
"Jamaicalia is a marriage of Jamaica and Tropicalia. I first encountered the term Tropicalia as the caption of a photograph taken in Jamaica. Intrigued, I discovered that Tropicalia was an avant-garde art movement that was started in the 1960s in Brazil. The movement came to exemplify cultural hybridity. It encouraged cultural syncretism: the merging of various and divergent artistic influences with the purpose of creating something novel and powerful. I am fascinated by Brazilian music, and the songs that are featured on this EP undoubtedly have strong Brazilian influences. My music, to a great extent, is the result of fusion; it is a creolized music, a pastiche of diverse styles. While my music is not typically Jamaican, Jamaican culture has had a significant influence on my approach to music creation. For me, Jamaicalia is an apt title for this body of music, because it embodies an experimental amalgam of world and dance musical elements."

After spending many many hours in the Bar 25-Club over the years, and making it my second living-room for some time, it was always clear to me, that i would release on their label one day. So now Ladies and Gentleman: Here it is, et voila! My debut on Bar25: Moving Free I enjoyed putting this track together a lot, working with such great vocals is big fun. Dawson Bacca aka Big Bully is a fantastic vocalist/singer. There is also a little piece of a Baby Ford vocal in there (Through The Time). The breakdown in the middle, when its getting really mellow and sounds like a crackling vinyl-record is my favourite part. I think its deeply stimulating to have some analog dirt in your hifi-sound. Go Loose This track is my second collaboration with the australian singer Rachele Riedemann. Ive been playing it for a while now with huge reactions. With its deep chords and jacking beats its a killer on the floor.M.in provided his interpretation of this track in form of a great remix including added piano-parts played by Chriss Vogt. And there is a videoclip on the way. Freak! Go Loose! Have Some When the Bar25-label asked me to do a longer track for them, without any restrictions i went through my field- recorded sounds and found some funny vocals that i collected in croatia this summer and on other travels this year. It kind of reminded me of working on my radioplay Eramina (that by the way almost got released by Bar25, but for deadline-reasons got released on Eramina in 2007). I invited my friend Albi to the studio and we recorded the vocals Sitting and Talking Have Some... and finally the track was pushing in a trippy way. Pretty slow and laid back, but yet full on. www.bar25.de
