Chris is a musician, experimental art music composer, writer, independent producer, and homesteader.

Throughout his compositional work, Chis is committed to a methodical and uncompromising approach to contemporary art music. Momentum-driven and often heavily rhythmic, his aggressive and highly considered works fluidly integrate a diverse continuum of pitch and noise-based materials within a deeply personal approach to musical development. 

A PhD recipient in music composition from Harvard University under advisor Julian Anderson, Chris has studied with Mario Davidovsky, Bernard Rands, Sir Harrison Birtwistle, Lee Hyla, Joshua Fineberg, Chaya Czernowin, Hans Tutschku, Magnus Lindberg, Yehudi Wyner, and William Kraft. His music has been performed by Ensemble Intercontemporain, Counter)Induction, the Boston Conservatory Wind Ensemble, and numerous other groups.

Chris is co-author of “The Listen,” a book geared toward anyone curious about new music regardless of his or her musical education. He has held administrative roles in New York City, San Francisco, and Boston, having served as Executive Director of the San Francisco Contemporary Music Players, Executive Director of the Manhattan Sinfonietta, Director of the Harvard Group for New Music, and owner of a small international NYC-based music business. In 2008, he produced the U.S. Premiere of Martin Matalon’s score to Fritz Lang’s "Metropolis" in Manhattam with live projection, quadrophonic sound, and 16 of New York City's top musicians. 

Chris and his wife, performer, musician, and producer Rebecca Honett, also direct Shameless Redhead Productions, which, while still located in LA, produced, filmed, and assisted in the editing of a number of short films, promotional works, reels, and the webseries Starving in Hollywood, which Chris also co-directed. Additionally, they served as co-producers of the Unexpected Hollywood Film Festival.

Maintaining a background in education, Chris has taught at the college, high school, and junior high levels, and has worked in elementary educational care as well as with developmentally disabled adults.

In March 2016, Chris and Rebecca entirely uprooted their lives and relocated from LA to the foothills of Appalacia, in southern Ohio, where they are currently living as homesteaders (http://elsewhereliving.blogspot.com/) with their exceptional dogs, Ozwald and Raddish.

Chris was born in 1977, in Hayward, California.

Sergio Pena holds a  classical guitar and composition degree, besides one in Film Scoring, Orchestration and Mixing awarded by Berklee College of Music. 

As a composer, he is an eclectic author whose main interest is film scoring. From jazz, pop and electronic to classical music, his output shows a knowledge of different styles that let him overcome all sort of challenging film projects. He has worked in feature films, shorts, documentaries and advertising for ten years. Skilled in a wide range of genres, his style is nevertheless well defined and distinct
