A cover of the song Bones by Radiohead, from The Bends. Recording dates back to the early days of the pandemic. This project was really driven by the guitar work of Sam and Joe. Bass and vocals provided by me (did my best to channel Thom Yorke, within the constraints of a much more limited vocal range). Drums, as always, come from Steve.

These four tracks were recorded down in Wandsworth on Saturday 31st March 1990 at Raezor Studio while unknown to us the Poll Tax riots blazed in West London. The idea was to set up and record the live set as if playing a gig. This was a nice snapshot of the band at the time and none of these songs were ever revisited by the original line-up.

What may be lacking in polish and technical perfection here and there is more than made up for in energy and vitality. In particular the version of live favourite `Need' manages to sound both extended and concise (it was usually far longer in a gig situation but we managed to capture the essence somehow). The contrasting `Way' represents the poppier side of the Smugglers with a nod to sixties sensibilities.

`Deckchair Man' was originally titled more literally as `Off-Season Holiday Town' and features some of Chris' finest lyrical images, as indeed does early show-stopper `Flamethrower' which kicks off proceedings in strident fashion.

We hope you enjoy what we recorded on that historic day 35 years ago.
