"Stove Boat was formed in 2013 by New Bedford Massachusetts native J.  Perry. The band gets it name from a pep cry issued by Captain Ahab in Chapter 36 of Moby-Dick:
"Lower away, and after him! And what tune is it ye pull to, men?
A dead whale or a stove boat!"

The bands music is a mix of traditional sea shanties, Celtic and Colonial inspired folk music. The band features renowned Scottish Shand player Ian Johnson,  Bass player Lance Piper, Guitar hero Joe Conti and Jerry Crisp on Tin Whistle, and Erich Overhultz on Hammer Dulcimer.
The band is currently in the studio recording their first full length album entitled Stove Boat due out this summer."
