"Meltin' Brain Loops" is a dope collection of beats composed in the scorching late May and early June of 2022. These 23 tracks are the result of a couple of weeks of studio time that Biga dedicated specifically to the rhythms. As the producer directly explains, "using exclusively an MPC, I developed the tracks starting right from the drums. I wanted the drums and bass to have a certain kind of groove, only inserting the samples later, just for the joy of studying and for the fun of twisting my workflow out of the comfort zone."
While Biga's beats are hosted on side A, side B includes 10 creamy remixes packaged by JayBee Vibes, Astratto, Odeeno, J. Raise, Jr, HZHA, Looppolo, MstkVibes & Loodo, F.o.x, Pentola, Masneo.

Since getting sober I have had a lot of extra time to think about what I have been doing with my time in a bright and positive way. One of the many benefits of getting sober.

I have always wanted to combine my graphic work and music through the years, have usually designed or art directed my own album covers. I have released music through the years with different labels and in different formats, often limited edition vinyl records that often don’t get a digital release. 

So I’m starting this little label just to collect and archive my music, it’s not anything for profit but any profits of one record go into financing the next one and so on. So any contribution is more than welcome. I have always made money to pay the bills from graphic work and always wanted the music to be free of any financial input and will keep trying to keep this as minimal as possible.

The name of the label is “ILMA” an acronym for “ILO MUSIC ARCHIVES” but also in Icelandic “ILMA” means smell. I wanted to use those ideas of the senses as a starting ground for the label, play with the ideas of sound, visuals, smell, taste and what is what in that world. The music will be in digital format but the cover art will be in physical format so each release will have a different physical object. I remember some of my first records I bought, Public Enemy, Big Daddy Kane and the KLF. I did not have a record player and for a long time I had those objects with graphics and meaning but had no means to listen to them. There was music inside them and they had this mystery about them.

I wanted to revisit that idea of a precious piece of cover artwork that somehow has music attached to it. The first release will be a remastered version of a record I did in 2001 called Champaneria EP. It came out originally on a label in Iceland called 66 Degrees, I used to work doing artwork in Thule Music the parent label that released it. This new version is remastered by Conor Dalton at Glowcast Audio Mastering in Berlin.

The cover is a cross stitch version of the original album art which was a photograph taken out of the airplane window going from Barcelona back to Reykjavik. I had been living in Barcelona for a year and made the record while living there, living there kind of made me understand house music better than before and still live with those memories. I wanted this version to be like a pillow you find on your grandparents sofa, something homey, warm and welcoming you back home. It’s produced in 50 copies and is available on Bandcamp as well as the tracks.

Julion De’Angelo follows up his split release on Theo Parrish’s Sound Signature, with his first solo release, Stand On Your Square, on Tone Log Jr. 
    The album opens up with words by Skip Burney, a percussionist who has toured with the likes of Herbie Hancock, McCoy Tyner, and Miles Davis. In the recording, Burney shares his thoughts on the commitment required to be a part of an African drum tradition; however, what he’s saying can be applied more broadly to a larger commitment to music, and even further, a wholehearted devotion to a code, an ethic, a mission. This is the larger message Julion is communicating throughout the entirety of Stand On Your Square: the history and severity of tradition, specifically African traditions. Stand On Your Square Parts 1 and 2 (A and B2 respectively), reflect chaos as the norm, each track finding their peace and discipline in African rhythms differently. The song, Sizzlean (B1) is a stripped down beat track that most directly showcases his roots as a dancer. Stand On Your Square is a fuller look at a new artist who has much more to share with us; and at its simplest reading, it compels us to move.

Julion De’Angelo is a producer and DJ originally from North Carolina, and currently based in Detroit, MI. Julion has been making music since he was a child in NC.  From playing the bass, cello, and drums since his preteen years, music has always been the center of Julion’s world. He’s played in a number of bands, from free jazz and metal, to noise and punk. It’s this experimental sensibility, and familiarity with the avant-garde that he brings to each of his musical endeavors, and specifically the dance floor. 
Julion’s first club experiences took place at the D.I.Y. club, Nightlight and at FrequeNC parties, in Chapel Hill, NC. These are the places where a stronger understanding of dance music and of bodily movement began to take shape for Julion. In all of his work, there is an acute attention to the impact of vibrations on bodies, as well as the (sacred) energetic relationship that can occur between musician and listener.  
Upon moving to Detroit, Julion continues to deepen his immersion in the world of contemporary Black music. In 2017, he released a debut split-EP called “Roots That Talk” with Thomas Xu, on Sound Signature; this joint release inspired them to host party of the same name. He has been featured locally at parties like Music Gallery, where he also engineers sound. In addition, Julion helps organize and engineer the event Black Music, with Deon Jamar. Internationally, Julion has performed at venues like E1 London, Le Sucre, and C12 alongside mentors like, Theo Parrish and Specter.
