[Story]
It’s become dark outside as nighttime approaches. Kirby, Poe, Bandana Dee, and King Dedede approach a bright light in the distance, floating on a cloud between them and their destination. “Is… Is that a circus?” Bandana Dee says, pointing at the cluster of lights. King Dedede turns to the group. “Why, it sure does look like it, don’t it! Ha ha! Let’s go take a looksie. Plus, I don’t think we can quite get to the Halberd without goin’ through…” Kirby and Poe look at everyone. They really want to go in! Luckily, the other two both seem to be in agreement. It’ll be a nice break from their adventure, too! Into the circus they go!

This song is based on melodies originally written by Phantom7, Afilion, and the SSBC sound team.

Earlier in the year- around about April or so- I was contacted by the dev team of Super Smash Bros. Crusade, a 2D fan made Smash Bros. game, and commissioned to produce a track for use in the game's various menus. They specifically wanted a version of the title's main theme song that sounded "especially 90s" and, well, that's what I do best innit? 

Jumping off of that base idea, I figured the best kind of vibe would be to go for something that sounded like it could've come from a late 90s fighting game, and drew specific inspiration from the soundtracks to the Street Fighter EX games- personal favourites of mine for many years- and the sort of music that SNK's in house band, Shinsekai Gakkyoku Zatsugidan, was writing for things like the King of Fighters series. The title of the track is itself a bit of a reference to the KOF series, both in it's numbering convention (the '99 is short for 1999), and borrowing the "dream match" moniker the series is known for coining (which is a term used for fighting games where plot canon and logistics are disregarded in favour of having characters from various properties get together for some good ol' fashioned fisticuffs).
