DECENNIUM29 - Mike Dehnert (Fachwerk, Delsin, MD2)

The 29th edition of our DECENNIUM series comes courtesy of one of the kings of Berlin Techno; Mike Dehnert (Fachwerk, Delsin, MD2).

"Since 2007, Berlin native @Mike-dehnert has run raw Techno labels Fachwerk Records, MD2 and a more house oriented subdivision called Colombage.

The imprints’ mission is simple: to release their own take on raw, floor Techno. And so they have done on 80 different occasions, earning both the label and the artists behind it the respect of in-the-know, serious Techno fans from all over the world. Dehnert’s own productions (often informed by his grubby, dub infused and textured live Techno sets at institutions like Berghain and Tresor) have also been unleashed on the world via other respected imprints including Clone Records, Echochord Colour, Deeply Rooted House, Pampa Records and Delsin."

It is a huge honour to have Mike feature on our series, with this extremely well-informed selection, giving us a taste of his city Berlin, which we have missed so much during the pandemic.

DECENNIUM - Mike Dehnert (Fachwerk, Delsin, MD2)

On Board agency founder and former record store owner Laura BCR is a strong force behind and in front of the curtains of musique du electronic. She also runs a label (On Board Music) with a sparse output, one of which includes a release by Finnish juggernaut Mesak.  

In this recording Laura showcases her particular knack for driving techno. This will please fans of deep and sleek cuts, fans of that early 2010s Northern Electronics (or Dozzy) sound if you will. Laura BCR invites you to seal your eyes shut and driiiiiift away (while tapping your foot). Recorded in front of a live club audience in November 2019 at Post Bar.

This mix was recorded in June 2000, 3 days after the first DEMF. I had just moved into a different place in Detroit, and the last items left in my old downtown apartment were 2 Technics, a tape deck, hi-fi amp + speakers, and a Numark DM-1550 rotary mixer from the 80s. In those days I'd been going out to see Theo Parrish + KDJ play small loft parties around town, and was listening to a ton of old WBMX/WGCI radio mixes and Ron Hardy Music Box recordings......this session, each side recorded directly to cassette in one take, is a reflection of those circumstances and influences.

“Every winter my brother and I, along with some very close friends, take a couple trips up north in Michigan to enjoy the fresh snowfall & we hike, cross-country ski, and snowboard. Deep conversation always seems to go the best with deep music. So - we tend to listen to dub techno, other deep shades of techno, jazz, experimental, and deeper styles of hip hop during these trips - it seems to fit well with the new blankets of snow and the serenity of our surroundings. I wanted to record a mix that would capture the feel of the recent trip that we had together this year, but also reflect my love of the Sungate label and the quality music they have been putting out on the EP’s and Podcasts. I hope you enjoy it. Much Love from Detroit.”
