Carl Cox is an industry figurehead whos legacy in music includes his iconic label Intec, which he runs with friend and business partner Jon Rundell.

Intec's new release is from UMEK who is a Slovenian artist accredited with kick-starting the techno scene in his home country, before earning critical acclaim on a global scale when he first started his career in the 90s.

Having released on labels ranging from CLR and Novamute right through to Toolroom, in recent years UMEK's own imprint "1605" has also become a main outlet for his music.

People with a good knowledge of technos history will be more than aware of the impact of UMEKs classics tracks, such as his anthemic Gatex that came out only a few years before his first Intec release in 2005.

Having also collaborated with many influential figures such as Chris Liebing and Joey Beltram, this new solo EP is UMEKs third release on Intec.

Titled Percussionix the EP opens with (Mix 1) which centres around a thick set bassline cut with filter sweeps and full of menacing intent. Leading the track is a combination of tribal percussion loops, which provide the track's main driving force.

Track two is UMEKs alternative mix of Percussionix which titled (Mix 2) has a more refined sound with the raw edges of the percussion being rounded off to smooth the sound, and its bassline is left unfiltered so it becomes more of a gradual sweep that grows with building tension.

The young Russian with the golden touch drops another massive EP on the ever reliable Senso Sounds imprint. Long since lauded by the likes of Dubfire and Richie Hawtin, Maksim Dark returns to Oliver Huntemann's label for a follow up to 2018's exceptional Movement EP. Conti- nuing the theme, Kinetics is a three track EP with every bit as much energy and attitude. The title track bangs hard, wrapped in a slick production sheen that Dark has made his own. Bubbling synths and warped bass are paired with snappy, tight drum programming for a full throttle tech burner. 'Chainsaw' keeps with the vibe, a super low slung onenote bassline meets precision fire drums and edgy, mutating blasts of sounds. 'Believer' is created from a similar sound pattle, deep spacious synths used sparingly and with great effect, while the rhythm twists and turns around tight, punchy drums.

After two new EPs released last year on Pont Neuf Records and Jimpster’s label Delusions of Grandeur, both supported by many producers such as Joe Goddard (Hot Chip), Horse Meat Disco or Adryiano, Cosmonection is back on Pont Neuf with a new EP Odyssey. This new maxi from the Parisian producer presents an ever more mature sound universe by confirming its attachment to a deep house sound with many Balearic euphoria influences and a more retro-futuristic approach, synthesized with hushed melodies and warm afro rhythms.

It all starts with "Midnight", a deliciously dreamy, mesmerizing hypnotic and spacy introduction, featuring the sweet and light voice of the Russian Brazilian singer Gystere. "Odyssey" leads us to the heat with a multi-phase and resolutely headlining track, driven by the 909’s groovy rhythm and a series of synthesizers creating an irresistible tension. The second part of the maxi opens with "Lost Islands", a true Balearic and warm escape with bouncy bass and piano chords that leave no other choice than dancing to its listener. Then comes "Feelings", with a deeper and more efficient deep house atmosphere via a dubby approach where the pads merge beautifully with the clattering percussion of the track. Finally, "Solstice" presents another collaboration, this time with Tour-Maubourg where the universes of the two producers combine together, with an ambitious mix of genres where Cosmonection’s spacy and groovy touch meets the melancholic jazzy-house sound from the other promising producer of the new French house scene.

Hotflush is a record label launched by Paul Rose aka Scuba in 2003. Its early period was spent as a central part of London's Bass Music scene which exploded in the mid 2000s, although the label has always been difficult to pigeonhole musically and recent output has focused on Techno and House.
