London-based artist @Wordcolour returns to Houndstooth with a new single ‘Bluster’

In Wordcolour’s own words, "all the way back in January 2021, when the UK was entering its second national lockdown, I set myself the task of trying to write a club track. I wanted to avoid the lockdown temptation to write melancholic, dreamy dance music, and so found myself trying to remember what the club sounded and felt like at a time when raving was a distant memory.

The result, Bluster, continues some of the club experiments I began on my first EP "Tell Me Something", but with a beefed-up heavier sound aimed at slow, chunky techno sets. Like that first record, this track has a sense of humour - constantly cutting in playful bits of vocal and drum detail. Both the title and the artwork imply an undue swagger - a sense of winging it through changeable unpredictable weather conditions: a combination that, for me, sums up the feel of this track as well as the circumstances in which it was made."

“Squares and Triangles was a turning point for the project - the first track I finished where I felt like things were heading in the right direction. F-M-M-F’s fantastic vocals hooked me straight away. They read almost like a film, exploring the tension of a doomed relationship when incompatible edges collide, crack and crumble amongst the lies.”


On Man’s creative roots lie deep. An artist with a unique gift for sound design, he’s able to conjure perfect pop songs and then corrode them, revealing the emotional truths underneath. An electronic artist with a human touch, he’s worked in the studio for an array of other artists, as well as delivering huge cinematic soundtrack projects, all while pursuing his own solitary agenda. "Squares and Triangles" marks the first step of this personal journey and more will follow later this year.

Over the past five years, Fever AM has given us a steady drip of exquisitely modern, genre-defying club music, from angular rhythm sculptures like Gacha Bakradze's "Daraji" to twisted party-rockers like Rhyw's "Biggest Bully."

To celebrate their fifth anniversary, label founders Mor Elian and Rhyw have put together a compilation that captures their strikingly fresh vision. "It's Not a Bug, It's a Feature" presents core Fever AM artists like Xen Chron and Ayesha alongside a few newcomers to the label, such as Pariah, MSJY, Peder Mannerfelt. Fans of the label know what to expect: soundsystem-tailored bangers with a surreal twist, for DJs that like to keep the crowd on their toes.

Travelling through UK breaks touching on dub, deep experimental and techno, their inspiration roots in the types of sets they have been consistently laying down at fabric.

Together with an accumulation of releases on labels Mord, Metempsychosis and Abyss, in 2021 Tapefeed launched their imprint “Inveterate” to focus on the duo’s vision.

"Dublin DJ/producer Sputnik One shares the second offering from his recently launched label N-Face - the follow up to 2022’s debut release Supa Natural/Grafters ft. Belfast-based rapper EMBY which was supported by Ben UFO, CCL, DJ Voices and more. 

The club-destroying compilation spans 10 tracks, featuring bubbling bass and glitchy breaks through cheeky wafters to fresh and exciting techno and dancefloor mutations from a total of 11 artists and groups from three continents. Following notable releases on Editions Mego as Electronic music duo LCC, and multiple singles and collaborations on Nicolas Jaar’s Other People label and Modern Obscure Music, experimental electronic artist Ana Quiroga (@ana_quiroga) announces her debut album Azabache for release on 8th September via Houndstooth. Ana also shares the first single from the project ‘Wallada’ which is available now to buy digitally and stream.

A personal odyssey, shaped by Ana’s deep connection to her homeland Asturias and her experience since moving to London, underpins Azabache. From the rich Celtic heritage of Asturias – the mines, minerals, and mystical feminine energy – to the urban occultism of their now-home London and the enchanting streets of Hackney and the East End, Azabache embodies the connection between deep and highly symbolic ancestral roots and these contemporary new beginnings.

Djrum's first release since 2019, the Meaning’s Edge EP is an introduction to a whole new world. For the artist also known as Felix Manuel, it was created in the final stretches of six rather traumatic years work. Having carefully honed his techniques and aesthetics, and learned some hard-won emotional lessons over this time, finally he began to work in a quicker, lighter fashion – and to cleanse his palate a little by bringing in a fresh ingredient: his own flute playing. For listeners, though, it will serve as an appetiser, a way into the delights and complexities of this new phase of his creativity.
 
It’s a serious work in its own right, mind. The use of flutes – including Bansuri, Shakuhatchi, Western Classical, and synthesised all blending and blurring into one another – gives it a coherence and a sense of airiness that unites the five tracks over half an hour, however divergent their beats get. And as in all his music, 
 
Here you find the opening track ‘Codex’ which alone touches on OG dubstep, Aphex Twin-like braindance, post-classical exploration, movie themes and more. The gentle tones and melodies that rise up out of it perfectly conjure Felix’s running theme of a protective bubble that provides a sense of safety and tranquillity even as the beats and acid gurgles and spurts all around it conjure up the slings and arrows of life’s difficulties.
 

… and it’s only just the beginning. This is the return of a master craftsperson more focused than ever on his vision and vocation and ready to blow your mind all over again.

Following the release of his excellent debut on Barcelona’s Lapsus Records, Wordcolour lands on Houndstooth with an astounding EP of next generation club music. The London-based producer invites us into his musical world as we journey through three highly detailed soundscapes, both emotionally resonant and functional for the floor.

With a background in jazz, pop and contemporary classical, Wordcolour has also previously produced music for TV and theatre. On his sophomore solo release, he demonstrates his diverse musical knowledge with dynamic and engaging compositions that indicate many years of music making. While making nods to the best of contemporary UK experimentation, these cinematic tracks deftly switch between tempos all the while retaining Wordcolour’s own aesthetic signature.
