For our 7th release we’re very excited to welcome the Studio 37 team to the HNH roster. East London born, bred and based, Studio 37 have been slowly building their profile since launching a year ago with a regular show on ModeFM, a string of free downloads and two releases on Mokujin records. Made up of track-maker Dean Allen and DJ & media man Theo ‘Stretch’ Lewis, in a short period of time they have forged a sound totally and uniquely their own. Hitting the sweet ’n’ strange spot between minimal techno, bleep ’n’ bass and classic grime; this is house, but not as we know it. Title track I’m Doing Me is the banger, with the manically looped ‘do it’ vocal, the hollow bassline dripping with reverb, atmospheric sparkles and gunshots locking together to create a high-octane dark energy. Nights In Moscow is stranger, spookier and seemingly slower. Stripped back to just chain-rattling percussion, a whomping bassline and eery demon voices, it doesn’t take an exorcist to see that this House is haunted. Finally, with Range, Dean Allen conjures up a cold, alien landscape, with deformed, minor key synth sweeps and forlorn sighs playing against the deep echoing bass. Summer music this is not. Studio 37 are taking the rave to the darkside, will you join them?

HNH007弾目で生粋の東ロンドン人であるDean AllenとTheo ’Stretch’ Lewisで成り立つStudio 37。Deanはトラックメーカー兼DJ、Theoはメディア・プロモーション担当者兼DJ。
一年前から本格的に音楽活動を進め、彼らならではの最低限なDeep TechサウンドをMode FMのレギュラーショーで披露し、Mokujin Recordsでリリース。Minimal・Bleep・Grimeの合流点でハウスの枠を超えた、独特のサウンドを開発。
タイトルトラック「I’m Doing Me」では飛び回るヴォーカル。鈍く響く低いベースや発砲音。これらの異る音が寄り合って推進力の持ったビートを作る。
「Nights in Moscow」は悪魔のような不気味なヴォーカルや骨がカタカタ言うような打楽器と、規則的に鼓動する太いベースを組み合わせ、緊張感を産み出す。
最後に、「Range」は音で実現する異世界への扉。孤独なわびしいヴォーカルを中心に催眠状態に陥らせるような展開は4AMのクラブにしっくり。
ハウスを再定義しつつも、いかにもUKらしいこのリリースをぜひ聴いてほしい。

STUDIO 37 - (STRETCH & DEAN)

A diverse Dj / producer duo, hailing from Hackney, East London, which specialises in all formats cross-genre underground music. A group to watch out for in the future who will continuously push the boundaries of their music / sound / style. Although still relatively new collective they boast an extensive musical library of house music (underground and commercial). which is becoming ever more recognised as what to listen too or look out for - for cutting edge / future developing sound.
 
It is the elements of these styles which provide each individual their own rare style accumulating to an overall distinctive sound that represents Studio 37 #S37Music
