Copenhagen-based musical adventurer Ground Plane Aerial returns with the latest instalment under his recently birthed moniker – this time launching his very own Theorama label project with a typically expressive 'Elusive Maneuvers' EP.
Ground Plane Aerial is the latest incarnation of the mysterious man behind the highly regarded Paxton Fettel project. With countless releases under his belt on much respected labels – including Delusions Of Grandeur, Kolour LTD, Apersonal, and regular home Greta Cottage Workshop – the new nom de plume is an exciting new 
vessel from where he intends to advance his odyssey into house-inspired jazz-funk futurism. Fresh from inspired releases and remixes on Apparel Music and Tensnake's True Romance, his latest offering is every bit as striking as we've come to expect from the maverick producer. 
The lively tempo, dramatic stabs and elegant musicality of 'Ethereal Drop' render it an esoteric classic in the making. Guitar picks burst into life over lush pads while synth arpeggios meander across the panorama. Rich with intelligent musicality, the arrangement ebbs and flows blissfully before eventually disappearing into evocative violet skies.
'Magik In Fuck Off Major' belies its cheekily confrontational name, as intricate layers of jazz-tinged keyboard licks make way for delicious chord progressions. The crisp rhythm stealthily builds before a deviant funk-fuelled synth line joins the action to add a freakish intensity to the delightfully distinctive cut. Simultaneously detailed and spacious, the music overflows with originality while retaining a floor-focused edge.

Tom Bruce has long kept his nose to the club grindstone. A Sydney stalwart, T.B has worked tirelessly in his efforts to further the harbour city’s dance landscape. From steering his own label ship Start Local Records, to releasing records via clipp.art and Paradiso plus delivering mixes for online radio shows such for Balamii and Area 3000, it’s fair to say Tom’s been putting in work!

Until recently, Tom had called Nottingham UK home. Over two years, he soaked up all there was to learn about how those in the Northern hemisphere navigate the rave. Now, back on home soil, the dude is spilling over with creativity and vigour. Welcome to ‘Cloudy Days Often Have The Best Sunsets’.

This optimistically titled EP certainly lives up to its name, gliding along like a puck on ice. Straight out of the gate is ‘Faux Personality’, a jolly bongo number with acidic licks and 80’s synth play. If you’re looking to break the world record for the longest light jogging distance, throw this on repeat. In addition, Dutchman and label friend HATT.D lathers on more acid with a tidy remix.

PREMIERE: 5HTTP - Jel [Sound Transitions]

In a year defined by catastrophe, good news is worth its weight in gold.

Gallery Recordings and Sydney producer James Pepper are back in business. After honouring Pep with the maiden release on the label (GLRY001), the two parties are linking up once more, serving up another plate of delicious club cuisine titled Games & Music (GLRY004). 

It’s been a steady rise for the east coast kid, gifted with a knack for writing well-engineered 4x4 house records. Armed with a prowess for production, James’s tracks have been played out by a host of dance music elite including Kettama, Tensnake, Fisher, Horse Meat Disco and close collaborator Black Loops. Word on the street, is these two have something special brewing behind closed doors...

The Games & Music (GLRY004) EP is a vaccine for club withdrawals. It’s the Pep you know, love and have so dearly missed. Like a bull at a gate, the curtain raiser “Infinite” brings the beef. A stew of spacey synths, crisp bass and lush piano intertwine beautifully, almost demanding dance. With deft touch, James sprinkles the tune with bizarre percussive elements, that sound like a troupe of insects engaged in lively conversation. 

Before you’ve had time to come up for air, the cheekily titled ‘Messi To City’ arrives. Prepared on a bed of compressed drums and an almighty kick, James gets trigger happy on his KORG, bringing both light and dark, encouraging all those in attendance to get their asses on the dancefloor.  A tongue in cheek groove, reminding us all not to take things too seriously. 

Over on the B side comes ‘Nature’s Calling’, as Pep glides into downtempo territory, a space he’s yet to explore until now. With hints of DJ Python and K-Lone production, this one’s right in the pocket. Utilising breakbeat bedding and steel drums, James takes us on an auditory tour through gorgeous rainforest, populated by a host of exotic birds.  

Rounding out the four-tracker is the lead single ‘Triple Take’. The curtain closer walks a lovely tightrope between loungey house and club records that pump that little bit harder. Introducing shimmering synth play to old-school dial tones, ‘Triple Take’ bubbles away spreading positivity in all directions. 

Having already garnered support from tastemaking editorials in Resident Advisor, EELF and Bolting Bits plus radio play from top notch stations (Triple J, FBI, NTS, Rinse FM, Boiler Room) Pep is set to have DJ’s across the globe licking their lips for when we can all party proper.

The artwork for this EP was imagined by Sam Bratby. Inspired by Modernist Coffee Table Books, the hard line geometric shapes reflect the kick heavy, bassline-lead opening tracks. This visual layer is contrasted with a liquid gradient overlay, alluding to more delicate moments later in the track-listing.

Rush City are the new Bogotá-based duo with a fresh exclusive 3-tracker out on YUNG DUMB Records, the label's first release of 2021. 'Natural Fear' is a song for the times, with heartfelt moody synth-work in tow, accompanied by woody 808 percussion, airy vocals, and a satisfyingly thick bass line. 'What Is Love?' is an old-school inspired house slammer with a 'groovy' vocal track that'll have you longing for a dance floor.
