Exclusive: Sunaas - Ratabah

Parisian producer Benjamin Nassau, better known under his Sunaas artist moniker, continues writing Chat Noir Tools' musical story by providing four tracks to the label that seems to be the flawless fit for the imprint's philosophy, namely dancefloor oriented music or in this case dancefloor weapons. Sunaas' now not so secret weapons are summed up under the explosive Master Blaster title, the artist's debut EP on the label, that not only makes followers of the electronic music art crowd the floor but lose themselves to dance. With a mixture or influences that range from House to Rave over to Breakbeat, the Parisian skilfully implements elements from the named genres and combines them to come up with continuous groovers with a (dancefloor) attitude. The B1, Ratabah, evidently is no exception and convinces with a euphoric almost Proto-Italo-Acid-synthline that is so intriguing that it keeps the tension of the track high enough to make one steadily and not easingly moving to forever in the beat and finding satisfaction in the mind-sticking chords.

Fio Fa is back with another release exploring his finely tuned approach to effortlessly rolling, yet playful pumpers that have become characteristic of his sound. This time on his new imprint Sunset Drifters, the label launches with 4 devious dancefloor cuts that solidify his sonic relationship with the sounds of early dance music. Straightforward yet effective, the EP merges his many inspirations - the dynamic drums & flecks of acid in proto-house, the rolling basslines of progressive, and the mini melodies and synth stabs of EBM and early rave.

We start our journey on a ride through the Turquoise Kingdom - a track that pumps & pouts. The bassline skips playfully between a short acid line, while sassy whistles light the way. We are guided to a moment with familiar samples from a classic, given a tasteful touch. This sample is carefully placed for a hit of nostalgia as we switch gears - going full speed towards Dash the bouncer. A held note keeps the anticipation high while building the drums to a frenzy. A task in tension building, the mood is sneaky & scheming. The tension continues to tower over us before we encounter the final boss. The b (boss) side begins with Enter The Turtle; strutting in at sultry o-clock, it is a provocative yet punchy prance in prog paradise. The release culminates with title track Sunset Drifters - a euphoric release, channelling the continuity of the modern progressive pulse. A stunning choice for sunrise or sunset, the captivating & catchy melody resolves into elation, bringing us a feeling that one would associate with their best moments

Creating the first batch on the freshly pressed X2SEE label is the Norwegian chemist, A:G. Starting on a high, the “Impulses” EP explores deep shades of electro and rushes of techno throughout, a familiar sound from the flourishing producer in years gone by.

Acid tinged melodies, and punchy broken drums are a consistent theme throughout the first high from X2SEE, ripe and ready straight from the realms of the underground. Transcending and spaced out sounds tease in and out throughout the EP in the likes of “Catching Up” and “That’s Not The Moon”, with hints of trance and progressive energy in “Let It Go”.
