Victor Calderone has stepped up for his first solo release on Drumcode with his two track single, ‘Burden’. Featuring two energetic tracks, ‘Skin’ and ‘Burden’, Victor has used effected vocals to create funky rhythms over the top of some steaming kick drums. The synth stabs lend themselves well across this EP particularly in ‘Burden’ where they really augment the flow of the track. The use of percussion phrases throughout both tracks on the single also reinforces the grooves and adds character to create a distinctive sound that keeps the single fresh and exciting.

Next up in our premiere series we're featuring the latest installation from Subjekt, the Amsterdam based underground sister label of Armada Music. It comes in the form of "Purple EP" by French producer N'to, a soulful three-tracker of which we are unveiling the title track.

N'to was born in Marseille in 1985. His love story with music started in his early childhood with his parents' icons. He started learning to play the guitar when he was ten years old and has never given up making music since then.

Influenced by minimal and techno artists such as James Holden, Extrawelt and Stephan Bodzin, his electronic working is recognisable by his use of smooth melodies surrounded by efficient minimalistic rhythms.

70s rock, 30s swing, hiphop, triphop, pop, jazz, soul, classical music are as many shades N’to can use to colour his tracks. He has been able to create a distinctive, "pointillist" sound that already makes him a key player on the French techno market.

Creating the Hungry Music imprint alongside with his friends Worakls and Joachim Pastor is a chance for him to let his imagination and musical eclecticism flow freely so that he continuously reinvents himself. That’s how his latest project, N’to Live Perc, illustrates his knack for blurring the borders between electronic and acoustic.

Lost Tapes Vol.2 is a new various artists release from Alex Niggemann and his lovingly curated AEON AUDIO. The imprint’s second versatile 8- track collection showcases an assortment of regular members of the label family and introduces some exciting new friends. 

Both a reunion and step forward for the exceptional talent this unique label has been nourishing, Lost Tapes Vol.2 is eight tracks of flawlessly produced electronic music. Artists include TVA, Denis Horvat and Speaking Minds – already label regulars – alongside Alex himself and some ferociously talented debutantes. 

Opening track - the beautiful beatless ‘Andrea’ – comes courtesy of TVA, the Italian ex-pat duo of Danilo Pascale and Marco Mollo (now based in Sydney). Copenhagen’s Denis Horvat provides the gently pulsing ‘Patchouli’ - a fragrant blend of switching melodic and dissonant elements as it layers atmospheric excellence over a deep, ever-evolving, percussive groove. Speaking Minds return to AEON with ‘Space Teleportation’, in which heart-melting melodies rise over teasing acidic motifs on a seriously dirty, low-slung percussive groove. 

In perfect contrast, Alex’s own contribution is a masterclass in subtle genius, as he creates another landmark voyage into the realms of peak-time techno with his distinct emotive edge, building a swirling, deeply delicious energy throughout ‘Serenity’. 

The irresistible, exotic, hypnotic pulse of ‘Mannequin’, built around distinctive layers of intricate, melody rich percussion, is a wondrous debut AEON appearance. This time, the name to note is Radeckt aka Thomas Dieckmann, another super-talented creator from the hotbed current Copenhagen scene. 

Some remarkable Italian talent is also on display as Venetian DJ/Producer Bastinov makes a welcome return to AEON with ‘Chamal’, where his deft creative skills blend subtlety with energy, the track’s dancefloor-driven attitude is complimented by a deep, brooding arrangement.

Lost Tapes Vol.2 debutant, Raffaele Sorrentini aka Rafjus explore the most interesting facets of electronic music. His fine contribution, ‘In Wonderland’, with its speedy, stripped-back, linear percussive energy, draped in dissonant, melodious motifs, provides a starkly resonant moment here. 

Finally, ‘Birth Of An Island’ is an unforgettable entrance for Hannes Bieger, who is perhaps better known for his immense and highly regarded back catalogue as a mixing and mastering engineer in Berlin. Here, his foray into experimental dub territory is a peerless, controlled display of mood changing electronics - a perfect finale to this exceptional selection of AEON’s creative excellence.

Laolu & Raoul K’s excellent debut EP for Compost Records is the perfect amalgamation of state of the art housemusic, african rhythm- and soundtextures being topped by the deep and spiritual vocals of Ahmed Sosso.

It’s not the first fruitful collaboration of Geneva based Laolu and Raoul K who’s living in Lübeck – a contemplative small town in the north of Germany. With their collective effort on „Sene Kela“, released on Raoul’s label Baobab in 2014, the duo easily brigded the gap between their african roots and modern house, between deepness and rave appeal. A truly adorable piece of dance music that deeply touched and left a lasting impression on Compost Records head honcho Michael Reinboth, who licensed the song for his long standing „Future Sounds of Jazz“ compilation series immediately. With „Djougou Yah“, Laolu and Raoul K are picking up this vibe again but turning the wheel even further – delivering two marvelous versions of the song. Besides the musical and magnificently orchestrated and arranged Original there’s the Perc Mix. With its punchy Kick drum, stripped back percussion work, striking synth arpeggios and an epic breakdown it’s got this perfect peaktime and festival appeal to it. The lyrics and vocals are written and performed by the african singer and musician Ahmed Sosso whose unique voice already pleased our ears on Manoo & Raoul K’s Innervisions „Toukan EP“ from last year. Music with a message – music that went straight into our hearts!

London producer Dino Lenny returns with a new dark dancefloor drop, ready to cause a stir after a string of on-point release over the last year on the likes of Innervisions, Diynamic, Ellum and Sapiens.   Title track 'Techno Is Dead' lands on his own Fine Human imprint and takes a play from people sentencing the end of a style, but the truth is the floors are having it like no tomorrow. Sonic wise, it’s a 8 minute slice of driving, shadowy, electronic sound, with rumbling 4/4 beats and warehouse ready builds working in tandem for a truly standout piece of finely balanced sound, that will no doubt light up the clubs.  Following up is ' Go Down To Mexico', with an array of off kilter stabs and trippy vocal elements solidifying Dino's dexterous production style. Expect to hear these across the clubs in the coming months.

After a 9 month hiatus, Diynamic Music returns with the 12th edition of its famed “Four To The Floor” EPs. The label’s very own various artist series, which is always comprised of four dancefloor-oriented tracks that have one special quality in common: they have all been heavily road tested and certified by label boss Solomun on his countless gigs all over the world. 

Opening the record is “Monster” by Matthew Dear, his personal ode to the kickdrum. His eldritch voice almost turns into a haunting spiritual ceremony by singing eerie chants and entrancing phrases.
