UNDERHER and Midnight Workouts come together for a superbly emotive new EP on Kindischthat also features a remix from Fulltone.
UNDERHER was formed by Khaled Bess in 2017 after many year on the techno scene as ‘Kalden Bess’. Originally from Tunisian he has become a leading light from his hometown of Montreal and has
remixed and worked with artists such as Moby, Booka Shade, U2, Maya Jane Coles and many others. His sound mixes the emotive and melancholic in perfect fusion and has seen productions extend beyond the dancefloor, with his music featuring regularly on leading TV and film. Meanwhile, Jay Saccone and London singer-songwriter Georgie O joined forces in late 2015 to create Midnight Workouts. Fans of their emotive deep house grooves and cinematic tones include Claptone and Audiofly. Just before the pandemic hit, they put out a fine LP on German Brigante's label Manitox, and now continue their good form.
Superbly atmospheric opener 'The Cure' is a dubbed out and cavernous house roller. All that open space allows the angelic, sensuous vocals and pensive pads to really sink in as the rubbery drums roll on and pull you in further. 'Up To You' is another carefully crafted track with tender vocals that make an indelible mark. They ring out over the deep but icy beats as yawning pads convey further emotional pain.
Remixing is Egyptian artist Fulltone, whose diverse beats, sounds and melodies all come together into something organic and innovative. He has worked with All Day I Dream, Akbar and L'Enfant Terrible
and goes super late-night here. His spine-tingling pad and vocal whispers are delicately layered into a soft, emotive house groove that makes for a majestic listen.
As always with Kindisch, this is a high-class EP that works on a deeper emotional plane.

CW/A is the live project from long-time friends and studio partners Thomas Feriero and Francesco Leali. Accomplished musicians in their own right (with their Avatism & Clockwork aliases), they joined forces in 2013 to begin anew and take the act of performance into the club. Adam Beyer’s Drumcode juggernaut attracts more fans and critical plaudits with each passing year. Holding firm on its future facing ethos, techno’s number one label presents a new volume in its acclaimed A-Sides series with 20 prime tracks to signify its 20th anniversary. 

Such is the volume of quality music Adam Beyer receives throughout the course of the year, releasing all of it would be impossible. Enter the blue chip A-Sides series: a chance for the quality-obsessive label head to issue a collection of outstanding tracks that couldn’t fit in their regular EP release schedule. 

With an eye on future talent, as much as the label’s established roster of heavy-hitters, the compilation showcases the full breadth of Drumcode’s multifaceted techno sound, equal parts inspiring and functional. 

Led by the stealth techno funk of ‘Nine of You’, Beyer’s deft collaboration with Mark Reeve, the compilation takes in exciting highlights from big guns such as Alan Fitzpatrick, Dustin Zahn, Bart Skils, Pleasurekraft, Luca Agnelli, Jay Lumen, Kaiserdisco and Gary Beck. 

The rich vein of form displayed by emerging techno talent is similarly given prime position. Rising DJ/producer Boxia makes his Drumcode debut, fresh from a well-received warm up set for the crew at the hugely successful Junction 2 festival in London, while the likes of Enrico Sangiuliano, Juan Sanchez, Ian O’Donovan and Timmo also drop fire, establishing their credentials as some of the most promising talent breaking through the ranks in 2016. 

Reinforcing the global scope of the label, artists such as The Junkies from Toronto and Layton Giordani from New York, prove techno is winning a place in the heart of the new generation of artists coming out of North America.

Drumcode returns with its 6th installment of the internationally celebrated A-Sides series. Renowned for fostering a shared space between industry tastemakers and rising talent alike, the careful curation that goes into each volume is a fine example of why Beyer’s brand continues to go from strength to strength.

Techno titan Adam Beyer has grown Drumcode into a force to be reckoned with; the label has become synonymous with forward-thinking, functional techno and even after 20 years, Drumcode continues to find new boundaries to push, and ways to solidify its legacy as the world’s number one techno label. 

2017 is no exception, with Beyer’s imprint hosting it’s first stage at Tomorrowland, not to mention the expansion of the critically acclaimed Junction 2 where the Drumcode stage is the centrepiece and Adam plays the key role of festival director. The Drumcode phenomenon continues to grow each week, chiefly fuelled by Drumcode Radio, Adam’s radio show that’s broadcast in 57 countries via 86 stations and to a global audience of 16 million techno fans per week. 

The A-Sides series acts as a perfect vignette of Drumcode’s cutting-edge sound; functional yet inspired techno, all tracks tried and tested by Beyer himself. Vol. 6 continues this tradition with a collection of 16 multi-faceted cuts from a mixture of both emerging artists and experienced label friends. 

The heart-throbbing bass in Amelie Lens’ electrifying piece ‘In Silence’ sets the tone for the dark and dance-floor-ready energy that Vol.6 carries the whole way through. Other standouts include Mars Bill’s rough’n’ready ‘Mohave’. Pulsating and precise, ‘Mohave’ has highlighted many of Beyer’s sets recently as has Wehbba’s monster track ‘Fake’, which fans have been anticipating the release of all year. 

Label-favourites Dense & Pika also feature on ‘A-Sides’ Vol. 6 with their hard-hitting ‘Just a Beat’ and a huge track from Beyer himself who has joined forces with Enrico Sangiuliano to bring us their undeniably infectious ‘Preset Heaven’. 

With many more notable selections from the likes of Julian Jewell, Timmo, Tiger Stripes and Pig&Dan, A-Sides Vol. 6 is another impressive addition to the label’s prolific release roster and a testament to why Drumcode remains at the forefront of the electronic world.

2017 has already been an exciting year for Melbourne based  Matty Doyle aka Matter. Long revered in the progressive house underground, the Australian artist is fresh off a contribution (in collaboration with GMJ) to Anjunadeep’s ‘Explorations’ 4 EP compilation. Having forged a distinctive sound, Matty’s fluid, hypnotic style has also found a place in the sets of Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren. Now capping the year off in style Matter makes his much anticipated debut on Cid Inc’s Replug Records with a two track EP entitled ‘Satori’.

Matter’s ability to craft smooth, meditative sound stories is second to none. How he incorporates emotion in subtle yet impactful ways is perhaps what makes him such a unique artist. The lead track ‘Satori’ displays that perfectly with its rolling groove and sleek, harmonic narrative. Deep, pulsating and laced with astral effects, the first act foreshadows a near two minute break. Developing in waves, warm bass swells highlight the centrepiece, complementing the radiant theme, as a percussive underbelly intensifies towards a powerful drop. 

The companion piece ‘Indica’ showcases a deeper side of Matter’s studio repertoire. The Aussie’s fluid sound works amazingly well in a laid back context and this sits as a great complement to ‘Satori’. Immaculately contoured bass tones power the foundation while gentle chord stabs, organic percussion  and dusty vocals fill in the framework. Clocking in at nine minutes it’s a serene break that shifts the mood with icy pads, giving way to a smooth, atmospheric finale. In a year filled with standout productions, Matter may have saved his best for last, with two tracks that are sure to make their mark as the winter club season unfolds.

First up is "Ciao Bella (Lento Sul Lido)." Here Irregular Disco Workers and TMK dial up a real beauty of a beach track influenced by those late night watchings of Emmanuelle movies with the acid lines of last night's rave still ringing in the ears.

Next, "Polk Street Stumblin' (Hey You)" is a pre-AM/TM Anthony and Tal collaboration found in a hidden folder called "gem" in Aniligital's old studio file cabinet. This "Disco Villain"-era slow disco/jazz fusion track of sleazy proportions is reminiscent of many nights spent stumbling away from a forlorn bar in San Francisco's Tenderloin district with creatures of the night shouting "hey you!" at the heels of those who pass them by.
