Rainbow Theme (FLÜFFY MIX :3)

Ok. Here's what's happening:

With any luck, on Friday, during Carthage's art walk, at the Antiquarium, your friendly local Mayor of Donutville is going to be  showing (audio version of showing?) a sorta-messy quadraphonic installation. With lotsa cables tucked in the corners and probably some (4, specifically) speakers propped up somewhere. Preferably not all together. That would defeat the purpose. And maybe some streamers? I'm still working on the logistics. And the music. All of it, actually. Still working on all of it. 

However - here's this. This is one of the pieces from the installation. It's in stereo here, but I have a working four-channel version with stuff bouncing all over the place. Possibly migraine-inducing? It's too early to tell!

Writing-wise, I have about twenty minutes done so far, and hoping to hit a solid thirty, um, in the next two days. I need to. So, if you're around Carthage on Friday - what? oh. ok, nevermind. I'll take a picture or something. Actually, after I get past this, I'll probably do a stereo mix of all of it and bandcamp it, because I've been having lots of fun writing at two in the morning lately.

Minutiae:
After a peculiar series of unexpected and cataclysmic events, Mr. Fowler had come to a startling realization. The third strike that had cost him his job had been the direct result of a misplaced salt shaker, the resulting search for which had caused him to be five minutes late to work. He reminisced upon the underlying causes of his two previous infractions: mismatched socks, and a paper bag that blew across the road. Looking deeper, his failed marriage came at the hands of a brief, yet ill-timed severed phone line. His dog had run away months before, after finding a hole in the back fence. The hole in the fence was caused by a careless utility truck driver who was distracted by his malfunctioning FM radio.  

Everything was now clear to Mr. Fowler. First, everything in the universe was connected by vast, invisible, interwoven cosmic strings. Second, if this was true (he knew it was!) then the most minute, mundane and inconsequential details are components of something larger: a grand machine. Mr. Fowler was obsessed. He became exceedingly particular about the orientation of objects in his home. His inkwell was to be three inches from the top left corner of his desk at all times. His smallest kitchen knife should always be kept away from the other knives, in a cupboard by itself. His shoes should be upside down in the closet when he went to bed. 

After a few weeks of this, Mr. Fowler devised a new form of entertainment. He would pull on the cosmic strings and feel the tug of altered destiny. He started rearranging rocks in the alleyway behind his house. He changed the color of the light on his front porch. On Sundays, he would go for a walk and pluck a single leaf from Mrs. Snell’s maple tree, and deposit it two blocks away in Mr. Emery’s yard on 5th Street. The power he felt was indescribable. 

Every morning, he would open his copy of the local newspaper and, rapt with joy and fear, read about the events that had unfolded in the previous day. He could practically see the writing of his hand across the printed record. “Fire on 34th Street:” Predictable. Mr. Fowler had placed a rusty nail under a park bench on 32nd Street. The connection was inevitable. 

Obviously, Otis Bridges had been waiting for the bus at 32nd Street, and had noticed the nail when he stood up to get on the bus. The bus driver, Benny, was impatient and honked to get Otis’ attention, which startled Penny Fairweather as she was driving around the bus. Penny swerved, but corrected herself shortly, and there was no accident, but the fright caused her to forget to stop and pick up the dry cleaning at Channing’s Sta-Prest. Manny waited an extra fifteen minutes after five o’clock for Penny, because she had assured him she would pick up the dry cleaning on that day, and he knew she needed her black dress for her uncle’s funeral. But she never showed up. Manny didn’t think to call his wife Elly, to let her know that he was waiting for a customer, and Elly customarily pulled the roast out of the oven on his arrival. She was engrossed in a troubling bit of pruning in the garden (kudzu, in fact), and lost track of the time, and the roast caught fire and smoked up the kitchen of their small house. Mrs. Creed, next door, called the fire station when she saw the smoke, and the firemen arrived shortly (they beat Manny to his home), and the roast was promptly extinguished. 

Mr. Fowler felt guilty, of course, but at the same time, he also knew that Dr. Chess wouldn’t have arrived at the hospital in time to deliver Ms. Chelsea’s twins, if the fire hadn’t attracted so many gawkers and cleared the roadways on 30th Street.

Couple of years ago I recorded a whole bunch of stuff ( improvisational guitar pieces mainly, laptop pieces too, and some other stuff ) and later turned a selection of those tracks into an album. This is a one-minute or so selection of tracks from the album all cut-up and mashed together, like a little preview. Anyone have a ( actual ) record label, or know of one, that works with contemporary classical/avant-garde/outsider material? If so then please get in touch.
