재즈프로젝트 트리오 "ZEBRA" [Pianto] 음원 전곡 모두 무료 발매!
이 수익금 또한 기부의 의사를 밝혔다.
또 현실적으로 비주류인 재즈와 인디음악에 많은 관심을 가져달라는 염원도 전했다.

이 재즈 프로젝트 트리오 'ZEBRA'는 'JK김동욱' , 세렝게티의 보컬과 베이스를 맡고있는 '유정균'(콘트라베이스) 클래식 작,편곡가 '진한서'(피아노) 딱 3명으로만 구성된다.더욱 악기를 많이 넣고 자극적인 음악을 탈피해 절제의 아름다움과 쉼의 여유를 보여준다.

60~90년대 재즈 명곡들을 리메이크한 앨범이다 보니 전곡 영어로 그대로 부르고 재해석하였으며, 아이튠즈를 통해 전세계에 선보일예정이다.
그래서 이 시점에 재즈 프로젝트 트리오 '지브라(Zebra)'를 결성해 앨범을 발표한 'JK김동욱'의 행보에 주목을 하지 않을 수 없으며 재즈팬으로 박수를 보내고 싶다.


재즈 프로젝트 지브라는 3명으로 이루어진 트리오이다.
흔히 재즈 트리오는 '피아노-콘트라 베이스-드럼'으로 이루어진 피아노 트리오를 말하는데 지브라는 '보컬-피아노-콘트라 베이스'로 이루어진 독특한 스타일의 트리오로 구성되어 있다.

 

'지브라'는 '김동욱'이 이미 2006년에 디지털 싱글 앨범을 발표할 때 사용한 이름으로 이번 재즈 프로젝트를 결성하며 흑(재즈와 소울)과 백(클래식과 스탠더드)의 조화를 가장 잘 표현한 타이틀로 생각해 정한 듯하다. 이번 앨범에서 김동욱이 부른 노래들은 재즈에서 오랫동안 연주되고 불리는 재즈 스탠더드(Jazz Standard)다.

재즈에는 새롭게 만들어지는 창작곡도 있지만 예전부터 연주되는 스탠더드를 재해석하는 것이 큰 비중을 차지한다.
그렇기에 재즈 감상을 시작하는 초보자들에게 가장 추천하는 것 중 하나가 스탠더드 감상이다.



앨범 명 [삐안토(Pianto)]는 이태리어로 '슬픈 눈물'이라는 뜻으로 클래식 팬들은 가에타노 도니제티가 작곡한 비극 오페라 [람메르무어의 루치아]에서 유명한 '광란의 아리아'가 끝나고 나오는 '이 세상의 껍질만 남은 내 몸에 괴로운 눈물을 부어 주십시오' (Spargi d'amaro pianto il mio terrestre velo)에 나오는 단어가 기억이 날 것이다.  

재지한 분위기를 물씬 풍기는 콘트라 베이스와 담백한 피아노 연주는 재즈 라이브 클럽을 연상시키듯 다소곳이 연주되고 있어 인상적이다. 또한 이런 분위기를 살리기 위해 메트로놈 없이 3명의 인터플레이(호흡)를 최대한 자연스럽게 살려 녹음을 했다. 간단한 곡 설명을 덧붙인다.


 

1. Black Orpheus
영화 [흑인 올페, Orfeu Negro]의 주제곡 '카니발의 아침'(Manda de Carnaval)으로 소개되고 있는 곡으로 1959년 칸 영화제에서 황금종려상, 아카데미 외국어영화상을 수상했다. 안토니오 카를로스 조빔과 함께 브라질의 세계적인 작곡가 루이즈 본파의 곡으로 이후 수많은 영화에 삽입되어 사랑받고 있다. 



2. Gentle Rain
앞선 곡의 작곡가 루이브 본파의 곡으로 보사노바를 대표하는 곡으로 감미로운 멜로디와 상큼한 리듬이 인상적인 곡이다. 김동욱은 보사노바 리듬을 살리지 않고 소프트한 발라드 스타일로 피아노와 속삭이듯 노래하고 있다. 



3. Autumn Leaves 
이브 몽땅과 줄리엣 그레코의 노래로 유명한 샹송으로 조셉 코스마가 곡을 쓰고 프랑스의 시인 자끄 브렐이 가사를 썼다. 이후 미국에 알려지면서 1950년에 조니 머서가 영어 가사를 붙여 전 세계인이 가장 사랑하는 스탠더드가 되었다. 유정균의 워킹 베이스가 재즈한 분위기를 한층 상승시킨다.



4. All The Things You Are 
보컬 뿐 아니라 연주곡으로도 자주 만나게 되는 명곡으로 스탠더드의 명 작곡가 제롬 컨의 곡에 [사운드 오브 뮤직] [왕과 나]의 대본을 쓴 오스카 해머스타인 2세이 작사한 곡이다. 음역이 넓고 목소리를 길게 늘여야 하기 때문에 소화하기 어려운 곡이기도 한데 김동욱은 피아노 선율에 맞춰 호소력 있게 노래하고 있다. 



5. Danny Boy 
19세기 중엽 아일랜드에서 불리던 'London Derry Air'가 원곡으로 '당신의 가슴을 장식하는 능금 꽃이 되고 싶다'는 사랑의 노래이다. 빙 크로스비와 해리 벨라폰테 등 남성 가수들이 주로 부른 곡으로 재즈에서는 테너 색소포니스트 벤 웹스터의 멋진 연주가 있다. 



6. Misty 
재즈 피아니스트 에롤 가너의 대표곡으로 샌프란시스코의 안개를 보며 만든 곡이다. 감미로운 멜로디로 피아노 연주와 여성 보컬로 유명한데 사라 본의 노래는 언제 들어도 감동을 준다. 감독이자 배우 클린트 이스트우드의 영화 [어둠 속에 벨이 울릴 때, Play 'Misty' For Me))에서도 들을 수 있다. 



7. My Funny Valentaine 
쳇 베이커의 우수에 찬 보컬 곡으로 널리 알려진 이 곡은 1937년 [Babes In Arms]에서 처음 소개되었다. 스탠더드의 명콤비 로렌즈 하트와 리처드 로저스가 만든 곡으로 한국인이 좋아하는 스탠더드 손 안에 드는 곡이다. 영화 [리플리, The Talented Mr. Ripley]에서 주인공 맷 데이먼이 수줍게 부르는 곡이기도 하다. 



8. Mr. Bojangles
재즈 스탠더드는 아니지만 로비 윌리엄스가 재지하게 불러 다시 사랑받은 곡이다. 전설적인 흑인 탭댄서 빌 로빈슨을 기리는 애칭으로 1967년 제리 제프 워커가 만들었다. 새미 데이비스의 노래로 많이 알려져 있으며 남성 보컬에 잘 어울리는 곡이다. 



9. Bewitched 

'My Funny Valentaine'의 콤비인 로저스 & 하트의 작품으로 진 케리가 주연을 맡았던 뮤지컬 [Pal Joey]에 삽입되었던 곡이다. 우리 재즈 팬들은 로라 피지의 감미로운 노래로 알고 있는데 김동욱은 뮤트 트럼펫이 더해진 편성에서 보다 자유롭게 노래하고 있다. 



10. Come Rain Or Come Shine
'비가 오나 햇살이 비치나 당신을 사랑한다'는 적극적인 마음을 표현한 곡으로 뮤지컬 [St. Louis Woman]에 삽입되었다. 주옥과 같은 스탠더드를 많이 만든 조니 머서와 헤럴드 알렌 곡으로 블루지한 스타일이 매우 매력적이다. [라스베가스를 떠나며, Leaving Las Vegas]에서는 이글스의 돈 헨리 음성으로 들을 수 있다.

Claudio aka Mr Fantasy aka the italo DJ numero uno in Stockholm. He started out as a DJ 1998 in Chile, at underground clubs and also bigger events. In 2002 he moved to Sweden and since then he has been playing in different clubs in Stockholm. A year later he started collecting italo disco vinyl and making exclusive DJ sets for Overfitting Disco, Intergalactic FM and Italo Deviance. Now since 6 years he is one of the resident DJs at Albion's 'Camp Cosmic' disco festival. Enjoy!

Eric Dunks Duncan started DJ-ing in Manhattan’s Downtown bar and club circuit in the mid 90’s.
In 1996 he stepped out of the DJ booth to help curate music for the Girl Skateboards movie titled ‘Mouse’. 
A couple of years later, Eric along with Thomas Bullock formed the AfterHours party outfit ‘Rub-N-Tug’. 
In 2006 Eric & Liv Spencer started ‘Still Going’ releasing 2 singles on DFA Records including ‘Still Going Theme’ & ’Spaghetti Circus’ the later featuring the ultra talented Reggie Watts on vocals.
Eric Duncan aka Dr. Dunks has remixed as himself or as part of his collaborations:
