Project Sandro  (PST Records, Sentrall – Los Angeles, Calif.) duo Tony Yzarnotegui (Tony Watson) and Anthony Puglisi (Rollmottle) come together this coming May 22nd for a very special “dublab LIVE” performance at The Standard DTLA Lobby. 

Project Sandro articulates cinematic and lush environs. With restraint and elegance their songs build soundscapes that give the listener room to engage with a range of emotions from the dark and foreboding to the light of some resolved clarity. Project Sandro does this at their own pace: nothing feels forced or contrived, there are no sleights of hand or overt manipulations. Like all good art the songs have faith in their intent. The listener is offered a sense of place that they can inhabit, the specifics provided by our subjectivity, the songs rhythms carrying us to our destinations. 

Through his label Adult Contemporary and its edit offshoot American Standard, Tony Watson has championed intelligent independent production from artists as diverse as The Beat Broker, Yagya, Hatchback and Lord of the Isles, amongst others and selected noted producers like Mark E, Reverso 68, and Dennis Kane for stellar remix work. Adult Contemporary represents an elegant and cerebral sound, but also one that is emotionally full and that covers a broad range from Balearica to Techno and Nu Disco. 

Anthony Puglisi (Rollmottle) has been making music since the mid- 90s and since 2000, has been running SENTRALL Records. The label has played a key role in defining the sound of a certain subset of electronic music that fuse elements of cosmic, 70s cocaine rock, dance music and the sunshine that is so baked into the DNA of California.

Ale at Dublab reached out and asked me if would be interested in compiling a show for a guest spot on the station. I responded with the soundtrack to my current normal, a breaking wave of change. Everything sure got crazy pretty fast! It feels like we're in a movie with a missing plot piece, fighting an invisible enemy… waiting for the monster to show up. 🌞 💓 🌞 💓 Hello my dear friends 🌞 💓 🌞 💓

In this episode of The Sunset Lovers, we have a lush combination of magic Mushrooms, natural hallucinogenic and deep exotic sound coming straight out from Italy and very special guests to me,  the kings of Slo Tempo, Mushrooms Project.

Mushrooms Project are Giorgio Giri and Marco Lentano, producers and serial collectors of vinyl, who joined up through a love of DJing and a passion for all forms of music. The project came into being in 2003 when Giorgio, a punk band drummer and vinyl collector with a strong preference for anything from psychedelic rock to Afro, meets Marco a deejay since 1994 who mixes every possible kind of dance music; from afro to house, passing through techno and progressive.

The first step was to put their affinities together and create a dj duo with a strong experimental and eclectic inclination. In 2006 Marco and Giorgio move into more slo-mo sounds, offering low bpm music with psychedelic influences but also taking in funk, pop, afro and disco house. The following year the duo turn to producing their own music and get noticed by Stevie Kotey and Paul Murphy who push them to their first release.

Bear Funk, Electric Minds, Under The Shade, Tirk, Pizzico, Slow Motion, Is it Balearic!, Uber, Hell Yeah!, Leng, Jansen Jardin, Ene Japan have all released music by the Mushrooms and these labels mark their first ten years of production activity.

Their name says it all: their music is hallucinating but all encompassing,  sometimes more balearic, sometimes just more freaky, and are made of analog instruments such as guitar, bass, synth and percussive sounds to create a “dirty” but unique background in the very long, deep, mesmerizing and unusual minds of the Mushrooms.
