Nobody knew too much about Krywald & Farrer when their email landed in our Gmail accounts late earlier this month. They’ve earned their stripes, yes. Their residencies at a number of London’s clubs tell us that story. But today’s debut tells us that they clearly just get a kick out of smushing genres together.

“The People’s Asafo” sees warm house textures flirt with an infusion of Ghanaian beatwork for eight minutes. A coaxing leg-shaker if there ever was one. It arrives on March 30th (via Silver Bear Recordings) and backed by B-side “He’s The Chief” which continues the afrocentric theme with gusto.

Four months after SHAKE 001, Mahogani's Dan Shake returns with his second edits release. To us, "Northern Merry" was the no-bainer. The synthesised organ's blues chords of the Mo-town intro plunges you straight in the deep end, with the 4x4 tempo picking straight up before you know it. I feel like it's 1986 again! ;-) I used to jump around to this tune in the late 80ies, so I thought it's time for YOU to jump around now. I gave this track a little arrangement treatment and some additional beat and - not to forget - some folky violins played by Eve Hase. I always liked the kind of surrealistic text and the hookline.

Punkin Machine's "I Need You Tonight”, originally released in 1981, is another typical example of an underground hit, played at many a flat party these days like an obvious, bona-fide early 80s discopop hit when it was actually quite obscure until James Murphy unearthed it on his FabricLive Mix in 2007. Produced by Jerry Cucuzzella, the track is a feel good bumping disco track, with punchy bass, spanky guitars and sassy vocals that make for an uplifting and energetic listen - a nice throwback to the heyday of Montreal disco.

This is my version of Fatboy Slim's massive house tune "Love island". I cut off some notes from the original bassline and used some step filters on the strings, added some offbeat guitar and a lazy beat, so now we got some perfect downbeat version of it.
