Recorded on cassette at Leeds University in December 1999 with Soundlab beltdrive Turntables & a Numark Mixer when I was a teenager!

At this time I'd just come back from Ibiza where I worked as a flyer boy for Trade and experienced Trade at El Divino on my first night in Ibiza. For a straight boy it was quite eye opening! 

After being devoted to Gatecrasher in the late 90's, I was a regular on the dance floor at Sundissential Birmingham and Sundissential North where this new sound was blossoming, reaching a second phase after coming out of Trade London. 

The anticipation of the 1999/2000 Millennium NYE celebrations were in the air. This was a beautiful unifying moment for humanity and so much time, effort & money was poured into the party scene plus luckily the vinyl dance music industry still had generous funding after coining it through the 80's & 90's. 

To experience all this happening as a teenager was phenomenal. The parties were proper parties! Joy was the norm. You'd have the best night of your life every weekend. The music was fresh, full of energy, optimism & hope for a better future.  

Then the 2001 Dotcom bubble burst and recession hit, reducing the revenue streams for both the nightlight and dance music industry. Napster & Limewire nearly killed off vinyl as during a recession, most people chose to download for free and burn to CD instead of buying the wax. 

The Analogue World was scared of the digital future as it was ruthlessly cost free. Musicians and DJs could only make decent money with performance - not so much sales. There was no itunes, only Bangingtunes.com! 

I was working in the vinyl section of Kokon To Zai at the time and felt the drop in momentum (...and also quality of production which became more digital, with compressed mp3s sounding weak on a big system). 

Music studios all over sold their 808's, 909's, Junos, Akai Samplers and rack gear for cheaper PC or MAC digital alternatives. In 2002 I worked on a track in Tripoli Trax studios and was a bit shocked to find all was being made on an Apple Mac G4.

Everything felt different. The comedown for clubs after Millenium hit hard. Huge multi-million new venues like HOME went bust by 2001. Even EGG had a rough ride at the start. It was a tough time to get into the industry!

But in '99 it was incredible. I hope this mix still has that energy for you and brings back some great memories! All comments most welcome...

A really nice mix from about late 97, a lovely progression through all of the current flavours of the time. A bit of trance, a bit of chunky HH, bit of high camp, lots of Trade classics. Then you`ll know when he gets serious with the harder house and Hard Trance. As I`ve said for years, he wasn`t just a HH DJ, he played a bit of everything. This is a really nice example of this. It also has the only examples of Tony touching a record to keep it in time. Somebody must have kept talking to him as it was a definite no-no for him to do it. Plenty of surprise tunes, crank it up, loud!!  No,. louder than that!!   In 2 parts so play both sides, you`ll be glad you did!

Listen to this! Once again, as rare as a very rare thing, definitely him, definitely live at Trade. Early to mid 95, some wicked choices and combinations, proper quality! Again, only 45 mins long, the second half of his set, but still a beautiful find [I`ll boost the sound in a couple of weeks and replace the file] Think about what he would have been playing up and down the country all weekend and to then turn up at Trade and just let rip, no wonder he said that he had a record box purely for the ones he was going to play at Trade. A tribute mix to celebrate 25 years of Trade and the final party at The Egg on October 25th. I've tried to incoporate tracks spanning from the early days from 1990 right up to the present day. I've chosen tracks that I hope represent the Trade residents from the very beginning through to the early noughties, as well as incorporating a few tracks by more recent  DJs to grace the Trade decks. Apologies, if I have forgotten anyone! Tracks vary from the more funky sound of Trade to the more chunky, harder sound with a few twists. I hope this brings back a few memories for some. The mix is mostly mixed on vinyl, appart from a few of the more recent tunes.Hopefully see you on the 25th for the final party!

 I like to incorporate lots of varieties of house music in my sets, re-editing and remixing tracks in the mix using samples and loops.


History: 

 I started DJing in 1997 on 2 belt driven decks that I bought 2nd hand. I was into dance music from an early age and was a frequent visitor to many a dance floor with a harder age (Sunnyside Up, Final Frontier, Trade, DTPM, Melt, Twisted, Sunflowers, Strawberry Sunday, Gardening Club & of course my local friday night in oxford with Graham Gold as resident, and saturdays at the Coven, where Sunnies residents were regular guests)

By 1998 I had moved to London where I was lucky enough to have a girlfriend (now my wife) and her brother who were willing to buy me 2 Technic 1210s to try and help me break into the DJ circuit.
I was fortunate to get offered a DJ residency round the corner from Turnmills,  just when Fabric was being built ,which gave me the opportunity to break into the London club scene, predominantly playing tracks with a harder, funky edge. 
By the summer of 1999, I'd relocated  to Ibiza, holding down a residency at Bar Zuka in Ibiza Town and played in Privilege  in the back room on Manumission Mondays.

When back in the UK between 2001 and 2007 I co-ran the Futur and Sunday Brunch (with my best mate and DJ partner Nick Scott) clubs in Oxford, playing a more progressive and funky sound.

House music for me is everything. It's what I listen too to motivate me, cheer me up, remind me of the good times and look to the future.

Most of the mixes available to download are from 2012 onwards, but I have included some older ones.
I pretty much enjoy mixing all forms of house music so you'll find all sorts of syles of music.
I love mixing up old favourites as much as  new material.
