Clive From Accounts is finally back on Dirt Crew Recordings! After some excellent contributions and remixes for the highly acclaimed New York based “Razor-N-Tape” imprint, he graced us again with three new gems that show the great diversity in his productions. Since his first “Cooking the Books EP” in 2021 and the follow up “Pearls EP” in 2022 he has continued to build a strong following of fans, so we know for sure a lot of you have been waiting on new tracks by him.

The uplifting opener “That Rhythm” is a smooth deep house roller with chopped up dusty samples, inspired by the US and French masters but with a heavy UK sub bass added. Following up is the wonderfully crafted “Maceo”, a groovy instrumental jazz funk workout built around the genius of The JBs legends Fred Wesley and Maceo Parker. 

Closing out this new EP is the acid laden and also title track “Clive by Night”, deep and lush house music that we love him for since his first release on our label, here he’s finding joy in deep evolving repetition, it’s an ode to the 303 and Xpander. Best played at night. 

Get in these 3 new hitters from Clive now, we are looking forward to hear these played out in dark clubs and wide open fields this late summer and golden fall. Enjoy!

Rawb Boss - the electrifying alter ego of renowned DJ, producer, and dancer Coflo - is poised to make a stunning debut with his full-length album ‘Coafeelia,’ set for release on the illustrious Yoruba Records. Raised in the vibrant Bay Area of California, Coflo’s journey through music and dance has been nothing short of extraordinary. A life-long devotee of American-style house dance and the Afro-Brazilian martial art Capoeira, Coflo seamlessly weaves these influences into his productions. As the head of A&R at Ocha Records, his original beats and remixes for Yoruba have garnered acclaim from industry legends like Louie Vega, Anané, and Osunlade. In 2023, Coflo’s remix of Ron Trent's ‘Black Magic Woman’ for Sacred Medicine, a label founded by Joe Claussell and Ron Trent, solidified his reputation as a visionary artist. From the bass-heavy ‘She Bad,’ - a soulful homage to elusive girls on the dancefloor,  to the deep house rhythms of ‘That’s What It Is,’ the funk-driven ‘Play This Game,’ the off-kilter ‘Foldgers In Your Cup,’ and the lush syncopated ‘Sedativ Medativ’ that urges listeners to learn and grow from their experiences. Chicago DJ and producer Elbert Phillips pays tribute to the late, legendary Frankie Knuckles with this extended and thoroughly dope classic tribute mix.

This is also an intensely personal mix — @elbert-struthers-phillips was both a fan and a confidant of Frankie Knuckles, one of a small handful of DJs handpicked by FK to open for him at his own events and selected shows. He also released a sensational cover of the Frankie Knuckles and Robert Owens classic “Tears” that 5 Mag covered last year.

This mix is “a retrospective of his career from his residency at the Warehouse to selections that I think he would appreciate today,” Elbert says.

“Two selections from the playlist (Din Jay’s ‘Cosmic Lust’ & Pat Bedeau’s ‘My Life’ aren’t classics, but they remind me of Frankie. Chris Forkis’s ‘Beats & Jembe’ is just a dope track that made sense with the others! Souldynamic’s ‘Too Hot For Love’ is def a classic tune but it’s got a heavier foot and edits.”

Feel Freeze recorded cover songs chosen by their fans - second out:
a brittle interpretation of Glass by Australian duo Luunes.
 
Feel Freeze are about to release their take on Glass, a song by the Australian electro pop duo Luunes. The track is the second of 5 interpretations to be released over the following five Fridays. All the songs are chosen by fans of the duo through a crowdfunding campaign for their 2018 “Feathers & Scars” album, where fans could order a cover song of their choice for a donation. This gives a significant mix of five very different songs written in the 1970’s, 1990’s and 2010’s, but Feel Freeze has managed to let these 5 songs come together in their electronic pop universe, which will be possible to hear throughout the next 5 weeks, and afterwards as a whole on the Interpretations EP. The duo tells about the challenge:

“It’s been a really inspiring and interesting experience interpreting 5 songs that our listeners chose, because it revealed that our listeners come from different, yet very inspiring, musical places and connections that led them to our music. Doing interpretations somehow freed us; we didn’t have to focus on writing lyrics or melody, now that it was given, so it made space for us to focus on the arrangement and play around with different expressions. 

We didn’t know this song before one of our listeners chose it for interpretation, but we’re really happy to know it today. The original version by Luunes is a slow electro ballad, with an icy sharp production, and if it was our original song, we would probably have arranged it quite the same way. But we decided to do something different, so we wouldn’t just reproduce the original. In the time period where we were working on the song, Ray had listened a lot to old school house music and made a demo with a groovy loop and bassline that runs throughout the song. Ray sent it to Mathias, who at that time did a lot of running, and on an evening run in the winter dark Copenhagen, Mathias listened to the demo and wanted it to be even more danceable and forward moving. So he added a much more intense rave-beat in the chorus which made the song move more rapidly - like a runner in the night. The final version landed somewhere in between Ray’s demo and Mathias’ rave edit, which to us is actually quite a good mix with the slower, lazy melody. We love the lyrics and especially the line: “I wish you were made of glass, so I could see through you.” Everybody knows that feeling, right?”

HULLAH is a London-based and midlands-born writer-producer and designer creatively driven by a passion for nightlife culture, city-living and stories from the queer community. His personal projects are inspired by artists such as Everything but the Girl, Real Lies, Rahim Redcar (formerly Christine and the Queens) and Pet Shop Boys.

Wrapped in the sonic flavours of electro, 90s dance and synth-pop, HULLAH’s work emulates a nocturnal spirit, and is complemented by themes of alienation, ambition and a sense of dejection. His work, though introspective, reaches outward in its delivery, inviting the listener to join the songwriter on a journey as he navigates his way through the noise and distortion of everyday life in a soundstage that comforts and surprises.

Along with Sicily-born Nicole Bullet, HULLAH is also half of the electro pop duo, Futuretape – a songwriting partnership that explores how millennials navigate the digital world, friendships and internet culture. Their music combines a passion for nostalgia and the future and is characterised by 80’s synth-pop and PC music.
