Seoul-based producer and DJ duo @Salamanda (Uman Therma and Yetsuby) share new single “Overdose,” their first release with NYC label Human Pitch and follow up to 2021’s Sphere via Métron Records. “Overdose” brims and bubbles over with fecundity like a life-giving spring. Salamanda’s vocals float languidly in the first half of the song, gently slipping past synth warbles that flit by like iridescent minnows. Halfway through, Uman and Yetsuby’s intonations burst through the surface for an ecstatic breath, reaching a cathartic plateau.

On August 4th, Trinidadian-American astrophysicist & saxophonist Stephon Alexander and Brooklyn electronic artist/producer Rioux are set to release their collaborative album 'Here Comes Now' on Rioux’s label imprint Connect.

During his sabbatical from Dartmouth College, Stephon Alexander spent the summer of 2012 in Brooklyn, NY where he met Rioux for the first time at a local cafe. After an engaging conversation about the relationship between music and astrophysics, the two made music that same day at Rioux’s studio. The outcome was a psychedelic afro-caribbean dance track with a spoken-word account of the creation of the universe. The song and the album it would inspire explore space, time, our place in the cosmos, and the overlooked connection between modern music and science.

Part Sun Ra, part Brian Eno, Here Comes Now employs an array of collaborators from No Wave/Bossa Nova legend Arto Lindsay, and art director Diego Cortez (Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat). The ornate, tailored productions by Rioux—a multi-instrumentalist—frame Alexander’s cerebral dub-reggae vocals and free bop saxophone performances. Through the album’s sonic narrative, Alexander and Rioux take us on a trip through the human experience and the greatest curiosities of the universe, while pushing the boundaries of contemporary music.

HUMAN PITCH with Simisea @ The Lot Radio 09-23-2023

Accidental melodies and textural forms comprise Kin Teal’s Ecosystem, the Budapest-based producer’s second EP of iridescent club-not-club zones and debut for Human Pitch. Bridging 130-140 leftfield bass with liquid downtempo chuggers, Kin Teal uncovers hidden melodies in the resonant frequencies of percussion. “By amplifying certain frequencies in drum breaks, our brains latch onto that as a melody. These melodies are often askew, not perfectly tuned, and I wanted to embrace that.”

Doubling down on the record’s title and theme, Kin Teal played with the idea of a record in which each sound and track reacts to one another. Tubular melodies coil around syncopated drums as though by reflex and vocal blips flit through the gaps. There’s a clockwork but also a fluidity to Kin Teal’s oblique rhythms, which trace the producer’s growth, bending blueprints with a vibrant curiosity.
