It seems Gestalt Records are going to end the year on a strong note, not that anyone, keeping an eye on this bustling outfit, would expect otherwise. In just over 3 years of existence they have released a number of stellar EPs from producers with fresh ideas and elegant sounds. Encompassing trippy progressive, leftfield house, hypnotic breaks and everything in between - the Tallinn-based label has created a signature sound which we’re big fans of here at Bolting Bits. And it is obvious that the latest addition to their ranks will fit right in.

For their 25th release, Gestalt Records have recruited Ed Hodge, who has previously released on Distant Horizons, White Peach and Dansu Discs. Hailing from the city of Birmingham, he also makes up ½ of Mother Of Pearls, his partner being the impeccable Tom Jarmey. A true man of culture, Ed is a fully trained saxophonist/clarinettist and his output is laced with classical influences. And this release is a classic Gestalt Records 4-tracker - filled with surging beats, pacey atmosphere and progressive soundscapes.

Clocking in at just over 6 minutes, the title track ‘Zest’ was clearly created with a club setting in mind. The 127 BPM piece starts subtly but soon evolves into a rollicking number that features a number of ups and downs, sure to get listeners moving - whether that’d be on the dancefloor or under the table. The elevating synth line, coupled with relentless percussion and an obscure but catchy vocal sample holds ground and leads the way for the remainder of this forward-thinking release. Whether it’s the ethereal ‘Black Flag’, gritty ‘Genesis’ or acid-infused ‘The Secret History’, each track on the ‘Nassau’ EP features enthralling sound design and is ready to be put to the test, by the wide-eyed dancers around the world.

Two years after the release of his debut album Planet Love, which was released at the beginning of the pandemic, Marlon Hoffstadt aka DJ Daddy Trance announces his second album.

"Moments Of Extasy" is scheduled for release April 14th and, like all of Marlon's releases, will be released on his own Midnight Themes label. He is thus not only the author, producer and artist of the project, but also takes on the role of label, designer and even PR agency.

"When I write and produce music, I have a clear idea of what the artwork should look like, how I want to release the music and how I want to promote it. I just love having complete control over my music. Not only does it give me tremendous freedom, but it also allows me to be in control of my rights, not having to bend stylistically and making money from my music in the long run."

Always open to experimentation, Welsh imprint Haŵs welcomes Wyatt to the family. Comprising five evocative, glossy cuts, the ‘Netherwood’ EP is a time capsule back to his hometown, turning memories into alchemical moments experienced under a blazing sun or by the light of a full moon.

The opening ‘Sewell’ sails through a sensory voyage of stripped-back breakbeat, travel intercom samples and earworm melodies. ‘Netherwood’ snakes into a trippy pace, carving an indefinable sculpture of synth melodies nestled between weightless ambient.

On the B-side, ‘Mousehold’ launches into a peak-time club number, its initial drive of drums and bass tempered down by emotive accents that feel like a coy dance between yin and yang. ‘Tombland’ slinks into a shadow-cast realm of melancholy and introspection, joining the hands of broken beat and synth lines into a melodic collaboration drunk on its private thoughts. To close, ‘Heathgate’ retreats into a hopeful murmur, reflecting its quiet, percussive optimism back at itself through tear-stained melodies and a glassy bass.

Sometimes, existential introspection happens through external movement. ‘Netherwood’ is a catalyst for those epiphanies.

 Rhythm Section International proudly presents it’s 8th offering from local boys Chaos in the CBD. Born in New Zealand, but based in Peckham for the last few years (literally just around the corner from Henry Wu and Bradley Zero), these brothers have made a real mark on the scene here in London town and with their latest set of productions are set to take this message further afield. 
Having already released internationally on labels such as ClekClekBoom (Paris), Hot Haus (London) and Amadeus (Montreal), the duo’s approach to production has matured immeasurably in the last year, as is evident in the restrained potency and poetic subtlety on the 4 tracks across this accomplished EP, Midnight in Peckham. 
Taking it’s title from the locale the boys have come to know as home, the record channels a delicate late night energy - equally indebted to the hypnotic incantations of Ron Trent as it is to the hazy suburban atmospheres of Burial. These 4 classic cuts pay homage to deep house in it’s truest sense - at once sublime, melancholy and meditative . Chaos in the CBD have clearly taken their cue from the mid-west masters of the genre but have not been afraid to let their own influences and environ creep in, and in doing so have created something that is unmistakablely London and infact, timeless.

We feature Jeigo's contribution 'Thought Cycle' - a track that unapologetically nods to homegrown UK soundsystem culture; ideal for many-a-dance. Jeigo's consistent and eclectic output places the young Londoner in good stead for taking the crown as one of the most exciting producers currently doing the rounds.

PREMIERE: Jeigo - 93 Thought Cycles [Dansu Discs]

The latest collection of wayward floor heaters from Nuances De Nuit takes us once more into a colourful headspace, a place house music with more personality is possible, and encouraged.

Huerta follows up that sterling start with the enchanting electro incantations of "Legwork", which build wonderfully on the sound laid out on his recent debut album for Voyage Recordings.

Expect attentive snare and clap combos, rooted in a tech-y-cum-glid-y perc arrangement; this combination with a rolling no nonsense bassline certify it's floor groove status. 'Legwork' proves though for a club focussed track to have legs, it needs to do more than just bang, expect melodic pads and woven synths to elevate this from the hoi polloi; enchanting melody and interplay always has a place on the floor.
