Happy 2025 to all the Idlers out there! We're back with our first mix missive of the year - and it's a doozy. When it comes to edit records, so much has already been done. These London-based boys decided to ditch the well-trod paths of Disco, Boogie & Soul to dive headfirst into the devil's maw that is American Rock & Country music, making some of the best we’d heard in awhile, subtly turning some of the stodgiest 60's & 70's shitkicker jams into glorious glitterball anthems. The fact that they're kickass DJ's to boot made this decision a no-brainer! Ladies & germs, please welcome to the Idle Cellars Mix Series stable - Flying Mojito Bros! These two fine gents were extremely gracious - if not eager! - to tackle the Idle Cellars brief and we all have hit the jackpot. Presenting "Americana Pacifica" - we would call it Balearica re-imagined through the lens of US AOR, soft rock, country and more. Accompanying the mix is this message from FMB:

Rugged, saline guitar jams and sea-smoothed rock – from really recent finds to long-cherished shoreline treasures once popped in our pockets for another day, another day. Flying Mojito Bros - Americana Pacifica

Pierre d'Estienne d'Orves is Tour-Maubourg, a defining force in France’s contemporary electronic music landscape, shaping the evolution of nu-jazz and house with his distinctive sound. His productions have resonated widely, earning millions of streams on Spotify and establishing him as one of the most compelling artists in recent years.

Drawing from influences like St Germain, Nicolas Jaar, and Ron Trent, he first gained industry recognition with a series of well-received EPs between 2017 and 2020. His debut album, Paradis Artificiels (2020), was met with critical acclaim, securing coverage in imprints such as Tsugi, Trax or DJ Mag and even leading to a televised live performance on Séquences (France Télévision).

In 2023, he pushed his sonic boundaries further with Spaces of Silence, an album that fluidly merges soulful house, acid jazz, and experimental elements, earning praise from critics. The following year, he embarked on a new musical journey alongside French saxophonist Ismael Ndir, blending jazz with electronic textures in their debut duo EP, The Panorama Sessions, recorded in Brussels. His latest release, The Floating on Silence EP and Remixes, features collaborations with K-Lone, I:Cube, and other notable artists on Noire & Blanche.

Tour-Maubourg’s presence extends beyond the studio, as he has performed at some of Europe’s most respected venues, including Rex, Badaboum, Night Tales Loft, or Sisyphos, plus an uncountable number of festivals.

For the first time @iron-curtis enters the ring over the full EP length for Uncanny Valley. There hasn't been much of a discussion whether or not this is something for Uncanny Valley when Iron Curtis approached the four label heads with this new pile of dance floor material. These tunes are too good. Iron Curtis must have been particularly inspired by the muse while producing these four outstanding House tracks. You’ll feel a comprehensive knowledge about Dance music’s history when listening. No doubt, the Franconian who is now based in Berlin has spent a good time of analysing House music’s techniques.

Finally the instrumental version of Urbs’ self-titled album.

It has been eleven long years since Urbs dropped his last album which was called “Toujours Le Meme Film”. Back then, the musician, DJ and producer created the soundtrack to a fictitious Film Noir, which was released on Kruder & Dorfmeister‘s G-Stone Label, but after touring Europe he almost completely retreated from public life. He does not consider his creativity as being his career, but rather as a part of his life which rarely is subject to concrete planning, and that is why Urbs quite consciously took his time to create his latest –untitled- album.
Urbs: “A lot of people totally appreciated my last album “Toujours Le Meme Film”, and over the years I’ve learned that it really means a lot to some of them. Which was a burden, because, obviously, you do not want to disappoint these people. By now, I think enough water went down Danube river to perhaps surprise some of them with something completely new. Those who know me know that I’ve always simply produced dope hip hop tracks.”
This time, as a consequence, this is no all instrumental album but a collection of 12 soulful hip hop tunes that feature some handpicked vocalist of the international rap, dancehall and soul scenes. On the album right next to EMC’s Wordsworth or R.A. the Rugged Man from New York, you will hear Ward 21 from Kingston, Jamaica, Voice Monet from New Orleans, One Self’s Blu Rum 13 from Washington DC, as well as long time companions like Skero from Vienna or Blabbwona from the group Abstract Art, who now lives in Munich by choice.
With a wink of the eye, Urbs replies to the question what it felt like recording an album together with vocalists after having released several instrumental albums: “Generally speaking, letting go of the songs and surrendering myself to the MCs gave me a hard time. You spend a lot of time with a song and build a certain kind of relationship. The music creates pictures in your mind and often its meaning is hard to grasp for the producer. And then, an MC starts rapping over it and it is a little bit like your older brother’s rude friends turn your child's room in a mess – in your presence.”
There also is a simple answer to the question of why the album has no title: “This album, so to say, is my competitive exhibition in this field and owing to the endlessly long ripening process it is wonderfully and intensively boiled down and on point. Therefore, no intros, no interludes, no title, no gimmicks, simply 12 good songs – period.”
Besides the album, two Remix EPs will be released with re-works by Retrogott, Brenk Sinatra, Visoneers (Marc Mac of 4 Hero), Peter Kruder, Cookin’ Soul, J*Star, Flip (Texta) and others. The artwork is made by DJ DSL.

Once personified, those things are free to become our beloveds, or our nemeses. Our friend-things are everywhere: waiting dutifully in a closet, standing mute in our childhood toys, or suspended in our photos. Some friend-things can come even closer to a kind of life with a little electricity, and help us build things, play games with us, or sing us songs. Andy, Wally and Ray are old friends of mine. I brought them together to get a feeling back, and to do what they do best. It's a reunion song. They are kind-of imaginary, yes. But the music we make is very real."

Following Doza’s EPIC theme “The Nautilus” comes the warm and uplifting single-tracker "Andy, Wally & Ray".  
As where "The Nautilus" was an exercise in self-limitation, using only sounds from one keyboard, "Andy, Wally & Ray" brings three key instruments together again: the Alesis Andromeda A6, Waldorf Microwave XT, and Ray Kurtzweil’s stalwart PC2x (hence the title). Here, Doza illustrates the concept of electronic instruments as friends, complete with personalities and their own voices to be discovered and celebrated. With crecendos a plenty, "Andy, Wally & Ray" walks listeners through choral peaks and valleys with layers of blissful electronic nuances perfect for dance floors and headphones alike.
