DJ Fki. Der Turntablist und Producer aus Saarbrücken hat bereits klassische Hip Hop Mixes für zb. Backspin FM oder Beatminerz Radio (USA) recordet und konnte schon Credits auf diversen Rap-Tracks in Form von Scratches sammeln. Zudem kann er auch im Club oder Festival ordentlich die Crowd rocken. Der starke Hip Hop Einfluss in seinem Mix aus House, UK Bassline und UK Garage lässt sogar jeden Rap Fan auf dem Dancefloor durchdrehen. Sein tiefes Verständnis nach fast 20 Jahren an den Turntables und seiner eigenen Version von Mixing gepaart mit Turntablism Skills machen ihn zu einem echten Profi an den Decks! Sein eigener Sound ist unverkennbar und sorgt immer wieder für Aufsehen.

20 Jahre hat es vom Kreissaal in den Saloon gebraucht, jetzt gibt er euch regelmäßig die Möglichkeit, eure Probleme an der Tür abzugeben und den Abend mit einem lockeren Groove zu genießen.
Als Kind geprägt durch Earth Wind and Fire und Gary Moore, später Metal, Hip Hop, Trance und viele mehr, gilt sein Musikgeschmack als undefiniert, doch auf dem Dancefloor sieht er sich als Pionier der House Music.
Da Tobi seit 2012 an den Tasten, 2019 in der DAW und nun zwei Jahren hinter den Decks steht, konnte er über die Jahre ein ausgeprägtes Gespür für Klang und Rhythmik entwickeln.

When our Hunter resident Valeria heard IsarO play at Solo in Beijing, she could swear she started floating on the dancefloor for a second. If she could have, she would immediately have flown him over to our Hunter Thompson booth for an all night b2b. 
IsarO is a producer, DJ and dancer based in Beijing. He usually blends House, Techno, Disco and Breaks with a various spectrum of sub genres, creating a deep psychedelic sound. We unfortunately haven't been able to fly him over just yet, but we were able to bring his sound to our mix series. Here's an hour of what the Hunter Thompson sound is to us - riding that groove!

Q: Hi Lothar, thank you for curating this joyful episode of ODP Invites! You’ll be performing at our upcoming NYE event with a special B2B set alongside Sem. Can you elaborate on what we can expect of this set? 

For this B2B set, we thought it would be fun to showcase our individual styles while also surprising each other by exploring each other's niches. For me, this means diving deep into Sem’s world of groovy house and finding records with Latin or Afro influences, or any other exotic gems. Additionally, Sem and I will be heading into the studio to create a fresh new tune specifically for this NYE event, which we’re really excited about!

Q: In 2024 you’ve published your edit of ‘Taxi’ by Salvi Francesco, could you tell us some more about the background of this record and what marks your signature on this edit? (https://soundcloud.com/lothar-mastenbroek/francesco-salvi-taxi-lothar-edit?in=lothar-mastenbroek/sets/edits-reworks) 

Absolutely! I stumbled upon the original record and was immediately hooked by its catchy melody and playful lyrics. It’s such a fun tune! Apparently, it was a huge hit in Italy in the late ’80s, and you can even find some bizarre live performances by Francesco Salvi on YouTube. Adding to the absurdity, the song's premise is about a man trying to get a taxi, only for someone else to steal it, very much in the style of Monty Python. To make it suitable for a club setting, I added more punch to the drums, rearranged the break to keep its energy, and layered an extra bassline while staying true to the original.

Q: What is your favorite record label and why?

That will definitely have to be Fauve Records, Hong Kong. They release the most creative, obscure, crazy records and edits and any of these tunes can be such a great tool to introduce a curveball in your set. It mostly italo but I recommend anybody to dig around their ‘Extinct Melodies From the World series’, you will be blown of your socks.
