Hush Hush Records is proud to introduce Sun Rain and present his debut album 'Sheets,' coming out digitally and on cassette tape on May 10th.

Sun Rain is the solo alias of Toronto-based multi-instrumentalist, DJ, and electronic producer Chad Skinner. 'Sheets' marks his debut solo album, yet he's been active within the music community for the past five years, releasing two albums as one-half of electronic production duo Snowday, and frequently unveiling thoughtful DJ sets in clubs and at festivals around Ontario as Legs Florentine. Last year he conceptually launched the Sun Rain project, fusing his versatile compositional talents to explore his own expansive sonic ideas. Recorded entirely in his home studio, Sun Rain is ready to emerge with 'Sheets,' a gorgeous 8-track showcase of rich textural soundscapes infused with the emotional resonance of modern classical music. Organic beats and natural percussive elements are beautifully woven with dusty synths, rolling guitars, and elegant piano, creating an electro-acoustic landscape steeped in nostalgia and melancholy, yet also optimistically hopeful. Contemplative and relaxing, endearing and heartfelt, this is music for the quieter moments.

The album title 'Sheets' is in reference to the importance of trees and wood throughout the history of life on earth, and how little we appreciate it in this day in age. From shelter, heat and cooking, all the way to reading, writing and artistry, wood is one of the most important resources on our planet. The album's sound was largely conceived around this concept. Here are Chad’s thoughts on the inspiration behind the album title: “After acquiring and spending time with a piano over a century old, I realized just how precious wood is. It has been integral for the survival of mankind; all the while remaining one of the most utilized natural materials for creative exploration.”

I’d just got a new synth and thought I’d test it out by trying to recreate that wonderful baseline. It quickly got out of hand and by the end of the night I’d covered the entire thing.

Amazingly We’ve had the track officially OK’d by the band themselves which is lovely. I hope I did it some justice.

Following the wonderful "Different Us" EP on our label, Russian artist Stendahl joins forces with fellow Russian singer and producer Jama on the two-track EP "Follow Me," featuring two inspired chillout and downtempo cuts.

The title cut, "Follow Me," begins with soothing and memorable notes, which are later accompanied by a calm breakbeat and Jama's stunning vocals. Numerous exciting elements emerge as the track progresses, namely subtle arpeggios and lush pad layers. "Angel" takes off with an array of brilliant piano notes, which are only enhanced and built upon as the song progresses. Well-crafted percussion elements and Jama's vocal put additional texture atop the already captivating atmosphere.

It's an honor to feature Enviado Vida on our imprint for the first time. The Russian veteran caught our ear in recent years, on account of his particularly lush and emotive deep-progressive style. His offering here, "Retinal Pathology," includes three gorgeous interpretations (at varying tempi) of the same breathtaking composition.

The original version offers an evocative, cinematic aura from its earliest moments, as blissful pads are joined by a poignant, recurring low-pitched vocal effect, as well as the distant voices of (joyful) young children. A deep groove penetrates the soundscape and slowly crescendoes, as the gorgeous pad layers continue to envelope the listener. In the main break, as the groove temporarily fades out, an ethereal female vocal stab sequence joins the soundscape, which solidifies this unforgettable composition's status as a deep classic.

Two additional mixes ('A Little Faster' and 'A Little Slower') cater to fans of more upbeat house and chillout, respectively.

Floating through empty streets late at night. No other people around, no distraction from a dialogue happening inside of you - looking for something, looking for nothing, looking for anything relevant.
Jens Pauly's second album ‘Vihne’ is the soundtrack to a search between flickering lights and a cloudy sky, between emptiness and being alive. It asks the essential questions within us, in a tranquil state neither here nor there. 
Each track marks a microcosm of its own, a small journey through worlds engulfed in memories.
 
Jens Pauly is a musician and artist from Cologne, Germany, who has previously released an album named r/f on Karlrecords. In his earlier years, Jens performed in punk and metal bands before he eventually began to compose more synth-based solo work as Ghostrider which he released with labels such as Digitalis and Tranquility Tapes.
 Since debuting under his own name with r/f in 2017, Jens has developed an electro-acoustic sound which is both sparse and engulfing yet at the same time warm and melancholic. When we first heard Jens’ demo, we were reminded of the beautiful Ambient sounds that 12k might put out, such as work by Marcus Fischer, Solo Andata and Taylor Deupree. However, Jens has since shared with us that some of the artists that influenced this work are Oren Ambarchi, early Hiroshi Yoshimura and Vikki Jackman.

 There is a sound palette that at first listen is stripped back but on closer inspection, Vihne is something steeped in detail, the music flows and feels weightless, as passages of guitars, piano, sine wave and cassette dictaphone recordings softly collide into a dreamy collage. If r/f was ‘5 straight lines in a circle’, Vihne is ‘8 circles on a line’ and although these tracks are parts of the wider picture of this album, it is intended to transfer an overall atmosphere as one whole journey.
