Copenhagen-based label Tartelet Records to release Wayne Snow album debut ’Freedom TV’ 

After two incredible EPs, Wayne Snow — the Nigerian-born, Berlin-based vocalist and songwriter — now presents his debut album on Tartelet Records. Freedom TV is the natural sequel to the Max Graef-produced tasters Red Runner (2014) and Rosie (2015); a project marinated in Afro-Caribbean, soulful grooves and topped by Wayne’s effortless falsetto acrobatics. 

As the title suggests, Freedom TV (due March 2017) is an album with themes of liberty, struggle and creative identity pumping through its veins. Within ten tracks, Snow fluently meanders between musical styles: from low-tempo soothers like album opener “Cooler” and “Fall” to the syncopated bruk of “The Rhythm” and cosmic funk escapades found on “Nothing Wrong”.

Recorded over a period of two years, it’s also realised in part by new surroundings: “Coming to Berlin was a liberation because I could play with many things, especially electronic music, and approach it freely regardless of the fact that I was African”, notes Wayne. “Being in Berlin also helped me to fully understand the origin of electronic music which is unmistakably black.”

Production comes from three varied and solid sources. The tag-team between Snow and fellow Berliner, Max Graef — which started on Graef’s still unfuckwithable 2014 debut Rivers of the Red Planet — is in full effect. The result is six tracks (“Cooler”, “Still In The Shell”, “Drunk”, “Red Runner”, “Rosie” & “Fall”) anchored by Graef’s now-signature brew of warm-to-the-touch boom-bap, soul, jazz and house. Elsewhere, trips to see the French capital and Neue Grafik yielded three stormers: “The Rhythm”, “Freedom R.I.P” and “Nothing But The Best”. 

Naples-based duo Nu Guinea also lend a hand on “Nothing Wrong”, an uptempo jam which will receive remix treatment from Ge-ology as well as the pair themselves.
 
The works of criminally overlooked, Zimbabwean guerilla fighter-poet, Freedom Nyamubaya (✝1958-2015), bind everything together. It’s her verses which occupy the end of soul-searching, Peven Everett-esque joint “Freedom R.I.P” and provide a regular referential touchpoint.

More than anything, Freedom TV is the soundtrack for anyone seeking a wholesome exploration of groove. Smooth and contagiously danceable at points, Wayne Snow has arrived in album territory with an assured cool.

Secret Value Orchestra est un jeune groupe parisien et d’après leurs propre mots un « live house band ».
Après un premier EP intitulé ‘Serious Intentions’ sorti sur D.KO Records en 2016 , un passage au Weather Festival 2015 invités par Le Camion Bazar, et de nombreuses dates à travers la France, ils s’apprêtent à sortir leur premier album au printemps 2017 intitulé ‘Unidentified Flying Object’.  Le groupe est composé de Larry Houl à la voix, Flabaire à la basse, Paul Cut au clavier, ainsi que Mud Deep et Monsieur Popo aux boîtes à rythmes. Ils créent à eux cinq une atmosphère house tintée de funk, de jazz et de soul.

PREMIERE : Secret Value Orchestra - Porta (I Can't Do Anything)[D.KO Records]

Frankfurt’s Gerd Janson and Phillip Lauer take to their collaborative project Tuff City Kids to update a pair of decade old Radio Slave tracks, bringing the material into the future with a beefed-up sound. 

Since the launch of the TCK project, the duo have developed a reputation for supplying quality remixes and originals with their music gracing labels like Permanent Vacation, Delsin, Live at Robert Johnson and Cold Tonic among others.

On this remix EP, TCK delivers their version of ‘Bell Clap Dance’ by highlighting the various elements of the original, adding more energy to the mix while keeping the overall moody hook intact.  

Two remixes of ‘Screaming Hands’ are also included in the release, which is set to drop May 5 on REKIDS.

Hailing from Kosice, Slovakia we've been big fans of David Varchola from the days when he went by the name of 'Embryo' we previously worked together on his track 'Make Luv 2 Me (She Said)' which was done while we were still Furies Records so it's a real pleasure to once again work together after all that time.

On this EP we have two tracks of the finest calibre that lend so much warmth,  depth and emotion while retaining a real raw element to them which is something we have always admired in his musical style, he recently set up his own label 'House Of Unity' which has so far been well received so well worth checking out.

Returning to Beats in Space after their debut 12" (and the label's debut release) in the fall of 2011, Paradis offers "Hémisphère" and "Je m'ennuie", another pair of sophisticatedly crafted, noir-pop songs from the young Parisian duo. 

On the two tracks of their second 12", Paradis self-reflect to find an escape hatch away from themselves. The A-Side, "Hémisphère", a macabre story of a lonely guest of life determined to leave everything behind, defies the narrative's convention and captivates with pop melodies and up beats abound. 

On the B-Side, "Je M'ennuie", lovers settle into late-night melancholic routines soundtracked by a brooding bass line, an achingly affective synth lead, and vocals that grin behind the disaffected front. Ultimately, hope prevails as both tracks beg the listener to leave their headphones behind for the global village's dance floor. From Paris to Cologne, from Buenos Aires to New York, in the words of Michel Polnareff, "On ira tous au Paradis." 

Each 12" from Beats in Space features original artwork in considerate & serial form. The first 12" features artwork by Denise Kupferschmidt, a Brooklyn-based artist finding inner / outer space in the movement of line and assemblage of color. The 12" packaging constructed by Will Work For Good features a vinyl BIS logo cling. The 12" will be available on May 22nd, 2012 from fine retailers worldwide. The digital version will be available May 29th, 2012 from the drab internet universe.
