Murder In The City (Avett Brothers Cover/Live)

This is the Blind Squirrel cover of the 1972 Pink Floyd track "Wot's...Uh the Deal" from their 1972 release "Obscured by Clouds."  The song features Dave on lead vocals with James handling backup vocal duties.  Dave is playing acoustic and his playing is featured on the intro and throughout the track.  James plays his Ibanez jazz guitar and does an incredible job with the first 2/3 of the guitar solo heard on the track.  Phillip's Martin guitar can be heard in the harmonics of the opening, playing higher notes behind Dave's acoustic picking, and on the last third of the guitar solo.

This is the Blind Squirrel cover of the great (but lesser known) Indigo Girls song "Leaving."  We hope we did it justice.  Our version features James and Dave on vocals and all three of us on acoustic guitars.

This is our live cover (Squirrel Jam) of the Del Amitri song "Tell Her This,"  recorded on a single microphone on 10.27.16.  We hope that you get the vibe of our band playing some evening in your living in front of you--warts and all.  James and Dave playing acoustic guitars and Phillip on harmonica.  We hope you enjoy!

Tell Her This (Squirrel Jam cover of Del Amitri)

This is our version of The Shins' song from their 2012 release "Point of Morrow." Much credit goes to James for seeing the Squirrel potential in this song--not obvious at first.  The final mixing for the track was on 5.18.17 and is notable because it is our first release with Sandy Beamer on cello.  Additionally, the song features James on guitar, vocals, and percussion, Dave on guitar and vocals, and Phillip on banjo and percussion.   We hope you enjoy and that the members of the Shins appreciate our treatment of their track.

This is our most recent original composition, with music by James and lyrics by James and Phillip.  The message is meant to remind us that mornings can always be a new start.
The lead vocals are solely held down by James on this track, while James also plays acoustic guitar.  Dave plays acoustic--listen for what we call the "high picky part" and Sandy is featured on cello--listen to her soar at the end of the song!  Phillip also adds acoustic guitar on the track (some of the lower notes and backing James up on chorus and bridge).  We hope you enjoy--let us know if you do!  9.10.17

Music and lyrics for this Blind Squirrel original track were both written by James.  You will hear James on vocals, rhythm guitar, and playing part of the lead break.  Dave plays bass while Sandy sings background.  Phillip plays banjo and also contributed part of the lead break.

Hard As That May Seem

I'm just a self taught guitarist that loves to write and record songs as a hobby.  This site has a lot of my old songs (most originals)retrieved from old cassettes and saved for posterity (which explains the omnipresent tape hiss on the older stuff).  All my recent stuff I released as Blind Squirrel which is with the guys I play with. (My band?)
