Phil gives us an insight into his musical journey that started back in the 80’s, we discuss our childhood influences, the free party scene of the early 90’s and the development ‘authentic’ Electro.

Seattle based DJ and artist, HYDEF, loves many things but it’s hard to compete with house music and hollandaise sauce. He has been been enthralled by dance music for nearly 2 decades but it wasn’t until he attend Burning Man years ago that he started to appreciate the universal nature of house music’s 4/4 heartbeat. While favoring the energy and attitude of tech house, g house, and techno he never likes to feel boxed in by genres.

Since finding his sound and continuing to hone his technical skills HYDEF has played at venues and festivals throughout the Pacific Northwest and among the west coast Burning Man community. Sharing the stage with some of his biggest influences, like Doc Martin, Gina Turner, SkiiTour, DivaDanielle, and others has been some of house music’s greatest gifts to HYDEF. While regularly showcased in nightclubs with his MIND at LARGE Crew, playing outdoor festivals is his preferred setting. Since 2013 he’s played countless sets at Burning Man, as well local festivals like A.P.O.G., Flow State Summit, Trail Mix Music Festival, and more. He’s held residency at Q Nightclub, Kremwerk, Timbre Room, and Substation and has played legendary events like Noise Complaint, Field Trip, and The Breakfast Club as well as other Shameless Productions.

When he’s not playing music or smoking weed, he spends his time looking for the best eggs benedict, or really anything he can pour hollandaise on top of.
