Late last night (December 28th) I found out that one of my music professors and composition teachers at Cal State Fullerton, Lloyd Rodgers, died earlier that day. He was very influential on me as a composer, a musician, and as a person. I made this improvisation in memory of him. Requiescat in pace Lloyd. You are already missed.

Something exciting happened at the Chatham Square Library branch during their 2018 Summer Reading Challenge -- they turned their staircase into an actual music piece!

When each child signed up for Summer Reading, they picked a colored music note to write their name on and then placed it wherever they wanted on the staircase wall (which was transformed into a Grand Staff).

At the end of the summer, after all the notes had been placed, each color was assigned an instrument (e.g. dark blue = piano, green = clarinet, etc.). Then keeping the random placement of each note, the wall was transcribed into a full orchestral score! The piece repeats multiple times so that certain instrumental groupings could be featured until it finally culminates into a rousing tutti (where all the instruments played together -- as displayed on the wall).
