tunes that have moved me this month, somatically and psychically

well adjusted in a sick society

I conceived of the idea for this mix while on the inaugural SEED (상록수 Education and Exposure Delegation) trip, in Seoul, Korea, this year, where I traveled for 20 days with 6 other queer korean cascadians. The trip was transformative, not only in my own relationship to the political and social history and present of the Korean peninsula, but also in my understanding of what it means to be a Korean person, whether in the diaspora or not. I'm not very skilled at DJing (yet), but I knew that I could only express some of the experiences I had through the medium of mixtape. So, this mix is a sonic representation of what it felt like to hold awe, excitement, joy, and 정, at the same time as deep grief, rage, and 한, and it's dedicated to Noory Kim.

it's what I imagine the molecular precursors of chlorophyll, hiding away for the dark winter, are dreaming their first springtime sunset party will feel like. it helps me to long for the ancient healing power of hand drums and sunlit bacchanalia. this set aired as a guest mix for the 03/10/20 episode of Flow State w/ @tiffwanee.
