Newsboys We Believe

While I don't really want to make a habit of doing covers, I've found them to be particularly useful for improving my production skills as well as keep my playing skills up. This song was a request for me to do a backing track for Misty & Krystal, and despite not having actually heard this song before (I didn't know this song is a big hit on mainstream pop CCM stations), I found that liked it enough to fill in the blanks and do the full cover (with a special thanks to Misty on vocals in the chorus).

I omitted the sequenced synthesizers, electronic drum machine parts, as well as the extra vocal overdubs and reduced the parts to "human playable" part and instrumentation because I wanted a "more rock, less pop" overall sound to it. All the tracks are essentially scratch tracks done in one or two takes over the course of three nights.

"Stay" is a re-imagining of the song "Forgive Me" from our last full-length Jars of Clay release,  The Long Fall Back To Earth. This is a favorite of mine on the record. It's been really fun to change the melody and add some different textures.

I love remixes, and the opportunity to approach our music like this was a cool opportunity. It revealed the DNA of the song and presented an opportunity to highlight musical and lyrical pieces that challenge and inspire me personally.
