Edward Richards is an experimental techno producer and selector from Melbourne, Australia. His productions follow a deep and hypnotic archetype, heavily relying on percussive elements and found sound to express his vision and translate it accurately to the dance floor. 

Edward is fast becoming a staple of the Melbourne Techno scene and through that we invited Edward to start the first Compound Podcast with this hypnotic and mesmerising set. He takes us through a dreamlike journey from start to finish that will leave you in awe.

Techno mentality is pushing towards a better world where every person from every nation/race/sexual-orientation/background beautifully and peacefully co-exists. All what techno represents, fascists/racists/sexists/nazis are against to. And all what fascists/racists/sexists/nazis represent, techno is against to.  On our dancefloors, we are progressive, feminist, anti-racist, anti-fascist, inclusive, colorful! On our dancefloors people from all backgrounds unite with diverse desires, sharing identities, love and happiness! Nazis shouldn't have a place neither on our dancefloors - nor the world in general. Some pseudo-democrats who want to defend  them (nazis) can say that words such as ''someone has no space in our world'' is a fascistic thing to say but the ''freedom of opinion'' of a group which demands homogenic states with all ''foreigners'' away from the non-natural borders some big heads decided to have, which wants less rights for women, which wants homosexual people to be punished....,well, this anti-democratic and inhuman ''freedom of opinion'' shouldn't be defended by any democracy nor exist/accepted by anyone who wants to call himself a decent human being. Democracy is based on values such as freedom, human rights and equality - all those values are broken by the nationalistic fascists and therefore no nazi can request anything about ''freedom of opinion''. You shouldn't play a game if your whole nature is against that game's rules. Period. Techno is the best way to ''bass'' away and ''kick'' out those cancerous brainless creatures from our dancefloors/lives/world.  United we stand - United we dance!

Öona Dahl is an amazing DJ, a supremely talented producer, a wonderful person, and our dear friend. Over the last couple of years, she has taken the world of dance music by storm. Not only by becoming a staple of Lee Burridge's All Day I Dream brand, but in her own right as well. Recently she's put out music on Watergate Records and Anjuna Deep in addition to touring all over Europe, Asia, and the rest of the world.

Öona proves beyond a reasonable doubt that the music scene rewards talented artists who work hard. We are so thrilled to have a recording of her set from her most recent Clinic date in April. This was our first sold-out night at our new home of The Sayer's Club, and we hope you enjoy the set almost as much as we did.

Downtempo One vol.02

I’m happy to release my recording from Sandbox Festival in Hurghada Egypt. I always love playing the Middle East. The sights, sounds, tastes, and smells are very different than my home, all of which represent one of my favorite aspects of DJing: getting enjoy the world’s diversity. Beyond that, I’ve found that the people of the region are an incredibly friendly and passionate bunch, so playing a festival that attracts the heads from many across the region was special for me.

The Sandbox mainstage was a big one - these stages are sometimes tricky for me as I feel pressured to go for the jugular and bang out a medley of big drops for those hands in the air moments, but I resisted the pressure and went instead for undulation between the deep moments building to the big ones while maintaining a steady groove through. Hope that idea came through, hope you enjoy the set, and can’t wait to make my way back to the Middle East!

Today we’re dancing with the waves and moving with the sea: Sabda’s Ocean Breeze is the perfect start into another week of summer: 

The producer whose name is pronounced “SHAB-DA", found his common ground in and around electronic music. 

From an early age he was heavily influenced by music and was attracted to psychedelic trance music as a listener in 2003. After years of listening and playing his favorite music, his active career in electronic music began in Goa, India, in 2009 with two psychedelic flavored projects: “ Tectum Music - BMSS Record” and “Octahedron Music - Plusquam Records”.

He had releases and was performing both projects and festivals such as BOOM, S.U.N, Rainbow Serpent, Fractal Tribe, Tree of life and many more.

Today, Sabda focuses on deeper grooves and enchants his crowd with unique Edits original releases as well as his delicious mixes.

 Du verfügst ja über einen goldenen Schatz an schöner Musik. Welche Künstler begleiten dich schon länger und welche musikalischen Einflüsse / Richtungen haben dich besonders geprägt?
 
Meine alte goldene Musikschatztruhe ist von innen ziemlich bunt. Wenn man sie öffnet, tummelt sich darin ein Potpourri aus so vielen Richtungen. Was aber schon immer in ihr liegt, ist die eher entspannte Rhythmik mit viel Melodie. Aufgewachsen bin ich mit überwiegend Klassischer Musik und den alten Platten und Kassetten meiner Familie. Als ich 13 war hat mir meine Cousine das Moon Safari Album von Air gezeigt, von dem ich total fasziniert war – und es eigentlich immer noch bin! Daraufhin habe ich dann angefangen über das Radio hinaus zu hören und es hat sich eine Vorliebe für Chillout und Lounge à la Café del Mar breit gemacht… das hat mich wahrscheinlich am meisten geprägt, denn die Stimmung schlingert auch heute noch immer mit.
 
 Du bist nicht nur musikalisch sondern auch reisetechnisch eine Weltenbummlerin. Gibt es einen Ort, an den du besonders dein Herz verloren hast?
 
Es gibt durchaus so einige Städte, Dörfer, Dschungel, Strände, Berge und Meere auf dieser Welt, die mein Reise-Herz höher schlagen lassen. Aber so sehr ich es auch liebe neue Orte zu erkunden, tief verwurzelt ist mein Herz tatsächlich doch in meiner Heimat an der Ostsee. Das grüne Flachland, der sommerliche Duft von Kornfeldern, die Prise Salz in der Luft und der weite Blick übers Meer lösen in mir so ein romantisches Gefühl aus. Dorthin habe ich mein Herz verloren und kann es zum Glück immer wieder finden.
 
 Magst du uns noch ein bisschen was über diesen Podcast erzählen?
 
Beim Zusammenpuzzeln des Podcasts hab ich über das Phänomen „Afterhour“ sinniert. After-Parties sind ja meist eher eine Verlängerung der eigentlichen Party und zielen musikalisch oft gar nicht unbedingt auf Abspannen ab. Ich verbinde mit „Afterhour“ aber irgendwie trotzdem eher geschmeidiges Runterfahren, das ist ja sowieso meine Standardstimmung ;)… Darum habe ich ein paar verträumte Tracks zusammen gesammelt, zu denen man wahlweise ein bisschen die Hüften kreisen oder auch genüsslich in die Couch versunken Kopf und Zehen mitwackeln lassen kann. Sozusagen meine Interpretation des Sich-Hängen-Lassens. Also bitte einmal zertanzte Füße hochlegen und auf Faultier-Modus umschalten ;)
