Hyperbolic Chamber #11: Energy and Range with Lord Loubbit

HC captain ĀMAN is back with another mix, this time diving headfirst into the deep end of the infinity pool that is bass and breaks. 

"Ever since I started DJing, what I've enjoyed the most is immersing myself in new music and (re)discovering my love for finding new sounds. Electro, and breaks called to me pretty early on, but it wasn't until this summer that I truly began to understand and appreciate the complexity, power and purity of bass music. This mix is an attempt to combine all those sounds to create a moody atmosphere, with a touch of groove and drive."

With his usual favourites Aurora Halal, Sansibar, Kia, Tsepo, Christopher Ledger (among many others) at the forefront of his mind while recording this, ĀMAN also used music and mixes from new finds and favourites Monophonik, Kohra, and The Librarian as references and inspiration. Hyperbolic Chamber #12: Brooding Bass and Breaks with ĀMAN

There are very few Djs in Vancouver that have carved out a piece of the pie for themselves while also managing not to stray from their own very unique sound. 

C-Star is one of them. 

From the early days, she has been known to bring to the dance floor power and energy that creates such a unique environment of give and take, where dancers are able to feed off her energy, and her off of them to create an infinite loop of ecstatic energy. 

This mix is in classic C-Star key, in that it brings in multiple dimensions of drivey, peak-time techno without ever letting the energy fall flat. 

This mix was long time coming, and I am absolutely chuffed to have her on, and shift the energy of Hyperbolic Chamber towards techno.

Hyperbolic Chamber #13: Dance and Drive with C-Star

On this very filthy episode, we welcome from Seattle, Raymond Zentaro Yamanaka, better known simply as Yamanaka. Carrying with him a vast knowledge of techno, Yamanaka is making waves in Seattle and was kind enough to record this one and half hour beauty for the show.

Yamanaka is a puppet master controlling you with invisible string. He is the fearless leader of your ship as it barrels through space at lightning speed, slowly releasing drops of serotonin and dopamine into your system. He weaves through every transition with such grace that you won't even know you're being lifted. Expect hypnotic, deep, consistent techno to be with you throughout.

This mix, while faster and harder than previous episodes, is still a very good listen even if you're in the mood for a relaxed cozy cuddle with your couch. Light a couple of candles, get those eyes closed and let Yamanaka be your shaman for the evening. 

With the intent to bring a darker, more hypnotic, techno-centric few episodes, I am more than pleased with the nature of this one and I hope you enjoy it too.

From the very early days of my tryst with the underground music scene here in Vancouver, there was one name that was a standout and staple...AWood. 

No matter the show, no matter the time, no matter the setting, AWood would bring an energy, craft and class to their sets that really stood out. Their ability to blend genres seamlessly is a testament to their talent and hard work, but more importantly their love for all things electronic music.

A big inspiration to say the least, and an honour to have them on the show. 

On this bumping episode, AWood brings their trademark versatility, playing an easy-to-listen, yet complex, wound up tight, yet relaxed bassy mix. Something for any mood, and any setting. Just plug in, and allow the music to take you away.

In keeping with her Euro roots, BŸSTÄNDER is on this week's episode, delivering a smashing, wall-breaking mix of industrial and hard techno.

Ever since I first saw BŸSTÄNDER play a show in Vancouver, I've been in admiration of the intensity and energy of her sets. She combines this with an obscure track selection and extremely tight mixing that never misses a beat. She has been a key figure in playing the hard stuff here in the city, and it's a treat to watch her rise. 

This episode has been a long time in the making, and is in keeping with that mood. The mix, while not for the faint of heart, is a must listen for all techno heads out there.

Hyperbolic Chamber #16: The Hard Stuff with BŸSTÄNDER

On this week's episode, we are thrilled to have on for the second time, friend of the show, HC co-captain and all-round top g, PixelFilter. 

PixelFilter's innate ability to immerse himself in sound has allowed him to create an extremely diverse portfolio of mixes, but if there is a constant, it is his drive to represent where he comes from. The underground electronic music scene is thriving in the motherland, and it is about time to the world took notice. On this episode, PixelFilter has featured underground music exclusively from artists from India who are proudly carrying the flag, while staying away from the musical stereotypes people can often fall into. 

PixelFilter flows between a minimal, hypnotic techno sound -- most commonly associated with the bunkers of Berlin -- and a trance-y, rave-y one that is synonymous with the techno underground of India. 

Just press play, close your eyes, and allow yourself to be transported back and forth between Bombay and Berlin, as PixelFilter weaves his magic with extreme precision, diligence and discipline that one can come to associate with his sets.

Hyperbolic Chamber #17: From Bombay to Berlin with PixelFilter

On this week's episode, repeat offender Shades of Day takes you on a spiritual journey of dance. 

Nothing pleases me more than listening to good tunes, and a Shades of Day mix is a guarantee that I find some hidden gems and bangers smoothly, and subtly mixed together. 

Listening to a Shades mix is like hydrating; it should be a part of your daily ritual, if you want to lead a healthy life, and not suffer from any manic music withdrawals. 

It is a testament to Shades' creativity that no matter the genre of music, she has the ability to immerse herself in what she's doing and take the listener to a different realm that they may not have known existed before. 

In this mix, Shades drives you on the fast lane, playing what she calls 140s electronica, and what I call a really good time. Elements of tech house, techno, dub, garage and trance music are all mixed in perfectly, like a cyclone you can admire as it carries you across a vast landscape of sound, and into oblivion.

Hyperbolic Chamber #18: A 140 BPM Boogie with Shades of Day

In keeping with our recent trend at the channel, we are back with another fast-paced, peak-time mix orchestrated by HC boss ĀMAN.

For anyone that has listened or danced to ĀMAN’s sets before, you would know that he tries his utmost to emulate those that he takes inspiration from. The deepest draw for ĀMAN is that indescribable 90s sound. It is a sound that is very distinct, that was created in the sweaty warehouses across Europe where ecstatic dancers grooved to musical soundscapes played primarily on vinyl, all united in the act of letting go. The 90s rave sound wasn’t defined by a genre, it was always about the collective experience, primarily about letting the music flow and do its thing.

Despite never actually have gone to a rave in the 90s, ĀMAN’s obsession with that era of music is pinched from art, literature and films from the time, combined with accidentally stumbling upon the modern day electronic music subculture that champions this sound. Labels and artists that aren’t intent on elbowing their way into spotlight; they are more so advocates for a very unique, quintessentially “rave” sound that ĀMAN just cannot get enough of.

And so in an attempt to recreate that very unique vibe, ĀMAN is here to headline episode 19. As always, ĀMAN blends a variety of genres together without ever letting the music lose its momentum. Expect a cocktail of deep techno, trance, progressive, acid, electro and breaks, all mixed in to keep you shuffling through as you go about your day.

Hyperbolic Chamber #19: Dance in a Trance with ĀMAN

We've had 19 editions of Hyperbolic Chamber so far, and our lust for good music hasn't died out quite yet. 

For this week's episode, we have on Seattle-based selector Interwave Surfer to be your guide through the turbulent, and windy weather that the Pacific Northwest is famed for. 

Interwave Surfer is the co-founder of Restless Planet, exploring deep, celestial, and ethereal shades of house and techno, all of which are extremely apparent in this mix. Skillfully gliding between house, deep tech, breaks and acid, Interwave Surfer's commitment to the underground sound is prevalent from start to finish. 

The mix has a deep and euphoric feel to it; perfect for anytime of the day, and is a testament to the dedication and work put in to crafting this set. Extremely groovy, deep, squelchy, reflective all  packed into one power hour here for your listening pleasure.

Hyperbolic Chamber #20: Good Vibrations with Interwave Surfer

On this week’s episode we welcome Los Angeles-born DJ Raine, whose carefully crafted mix is a real treat for the ears. 

With 22 years on the decks behind her, DJ Raine is no stranger to the techno world. Having supported acts like Drumcell, Mark Broom and Truncate (to name just a few), DJ Raine's expertise as a song selector comes to the fore in this solid one hour of music. 

In her own words, she writes “this mix for Hyperbolic Chamber foregoes the high-bpm, angry sound of todays commercial ‘techno’ and instead peels back layer upon layer of timeless techno sound, from dark dub to rhythmic workouts to melodic euphoria. This mix is a tribute to the diverse people of the underground who weave in and out of the shadows to unite dance floors in sound.”

From start to finish, the mix does exactly what DJ Raine intends it to do; it oozes class as it begins slow, full of orchestral sound, moving into some groove and beautiful techno melodies that opens up a portal to an energetic, euphoric place where you can let go, and let the music gently guide you onward and into oblivion.

Hyperbolic Chamber #21: Hypnotic Harmonies with DJ Raine

Episode 22 is a doozy — a deep, cerebral journey through bass, house, electro, techno, and breaks, carefully stitched together to create something psychedelic and immersive.

Those paying attention will know by now just how much ĀMAN revels in the vastness of electronic music, and how deeply he's been influenced by the kaleidoscopic sounds of the psychedelic ‘70s.

In this episode, he brings it all together — starting slow and steady before gradually lifting off into outer space, navigating a mosaic of textures designed to reach the hidden corners of your mind.

In his own words, he writes, 

“This mix was the most challenging and physically exhausting one I’ve recorded in a while — not because of its energy, but because of the laser focus and restraint it demanded. I had to let the subtle variations in the music breathe, resisting the temptation to fall back on cheap tricks.

I’ve always admired DJs who allow tracks to reveal themselves with patience and precision — that’s what I aimed for here.

I dove deep into a pool of music I’ve carried with me for years but never had the right moment to play — slower, more intricate tracks that don’t always work in a live set, but shine in the right context. There’s imperfection in this mix, and that’s what makes it feel honest. It’s another step forward toward the sound I want to keep exploring.”

Hyperbolic Chamber #23: A Golden Hour with Marco Valencia

It’s been a year of Hyperbolic Chamber.

From a scratchy, home-recorded first episode to a full-blown audiovisual experience, we’ve made it to episode 24 — and we had to go big for this one.

For this milestone, Hyperbolic Chamber teams up with the historic Georgetown Steam Plant to present a special back-to-back session with co-captains ĀMAN and PIXELFILTER at the helm.

A space like the Georgetown Steam Plant demands sound that matches its aesthetic: raw, textured, and heavy with atmosphere.

The mix itself reflects that: starting dubby and dark, it builds into a high-energy, fast-paced peak before easing into something more euphoric and cinematic. It’s a journey of tension and release, industrial grit and hypnotic rhythm.

Hyperbolic Chamber #24: Georgetown Steam Plant with ĀMAN and PIXELFILTER

After a long hiatus, Hyperbolic Chamber is back, and we are thrilled to bring you this episode with Bonsoir Mufield. 

This mix brings to you directly from the depths of Bonsoir Mufield's creative mind, an hour featuring all original music. 

Bonsoir Mufield is a ridiculously talented producer out of Seattle and has masterfully curated this mix to create a spine tingling, brain warping hour of sound. 

In his own words, he writes, 

"This mix was made entirely with my own productions. I leaned more towards techno since that is what I have been making lately. Something new that I tried with this mix was to use loops that were work in progress pieces but never turned into complete tracks, basically sketches. 

The mix actually starts with a work in progress loop that blends into the final version of the same track. Towards the end of the mix I used a couple of other work in progress loops during transitions and mixed them in using 3 decks.

After making this mix I feel inspired to try producing smaller tools and loops and learning how to mix them creatively."

Hyperbolic Chamber #25: A Masterclass in Deep Cuts with Bonsoir Mufield

What an absolute treat we have for you on this month's episode featuring Seattle-based multi-instrumentalist, and producer BCXG. A mix of gargantuan proportions, with music never played before, and a sound never featured on the channel before. 

Composed entirely of songs produced by BCXG, this particular project -- made exclusively for Hyperbolic Chamber -- is a mix of recent Drum and Bass remixes, all of which are available on Beatport under "BCXG."

Introduced to underground electronic music in 1999, Ben Colgan (BCXG) saw a future with electronic dance music.  He spent his college years as a DJ with Stylus Grooves and Stylus Systems, and Oneself Connect, playing local events in Eugene, OR.  Dabbling in music production became a hobby in 2009 and after moving to Seattle in 2010, music production became more of a project. 

In 2021, BCXG started producing full time, resulting in a wealth of work, available on SoundCloud, with recent releases on all platforms, including BeatPort.
