Step Ball Chain’s unconventional prototype band trickpony is the 11th release on the ever evolving imprint. An assortment of sensual cyber jams collaged together by the trio over timezones, birthed in Perth, Australia by Mike Midnight and Roza Terenzi; old friends joined by Helsinki’s visionary songstress Maria Korkeila. A trinity of alchemy blossomed into an audio rendition of exquisite corpse, layers of each entity glistening through amongst a united cosmos; trip hop atmospherics and downtempo drippings. 

The five track EP reveals a metamorphosis of nostalgia, a foot in the ever present and daydreams of future. A subconscious deep dive into lustful pop, guided by spine tingling vocal fantasies; textural hallucination, harmonic odes to the golden era underground and a flirtation with drum and bass, tribal percussive freakouts and dream tinged lyrics of desire. 

Pillow talk is a timeless exhibit of esoteric treasures, a portal to a private world of modern enchantment that reveals itself in new ways each listen, music for lovers created by a supergroup of innovators to be digested, shared and cherished.

Andy Stott's first material of 2010 finds the producer in a hot and sultry mood, delivering two House variants produced with that typically deep and luxurious style. "Tell Me Anything" centres around shuffling snares, a rugged bassline and sparkling keys anchoring the track somewhere between wide open and summery expanses and the compressed warehouse environments of darkest North Manchester. 
"Love Nothing" on the flipside is the slower of the two tracks, but somehow one of the most important of Stott's career, unraveling to expose an unfathomably deep arrangement of decomposed vocals and mangled percussion. It sounds like Newworldaquarium, Mount Kimbie and DJ Qu shooting the breeze, evoking the humid spirit and glamour of a hot summer in the city.

Tell Me Anything

DJ Seinfeld presents an immersive EP exploring the balance between fragility and force. Sakura EP is out on Deep Sea Frequency in April. 
The four tracks draw from a multitude of inﬂuences. Breaks, electro, dub and trance elements band together with a familiar lo-ﬁ approach where distortion acts as an instrument of its own.
Title track "Sakura" is a subaquatic dose of old school electro with swollen bass and fuzzy harmonics. Sagrada brandishes swirling melodies with layers of detail whilst Belvedere uses looped breaks and a sub-driven bassline to build animated funk. Battery rounds out the EP playing with delicate melodic inﬂections over a cavernous low end.

Sam Barker (@voltek) has had a long ongoing relationship with Berghain and Ostgut Ton, having released two LPs and various EPs as one half of Barker & Baumecker and hosting regular nights at the club since September 2008 as co-founder of the label Leisure System. 2017 marked the beginning of his solo residency, 2018 sees his first solo release with Ostgut Ton.

Both as a musician and label owner, Barker operates on the fringes of techno, balancing experimentation with functionality. On ‘Debiasing’, he takes a hard look at the musical elements often considered necessary to maintain dancefloor momentum, with four distinct tracks of morphing synth stabs and paired down metronomic rhythms in varying time signatures. While there is no kick, snare, or clap to be heard, the result is not experimental techno deconstructions but driving, hypnotic and unlikely dancefloor tools.
