As the shifting of storms, Zohar presents a mystical, thrill-seeking desire. After three years, the second entry in the highly personal ZHR series has arrived.

In Zohar’s renewed modus operandi analog and digital techniques interact with dissected and transformed sound experiments — an eclectic approach that honors the wide musical scope the artist seeks refined and surprising connections in. 

Consciously withholding energy, these seven percussive and pulsating tracks seek a balance between a near teasing attitude, and total transgression. In the end, Zohar’s volatile signature refuses to be contained.

The online radio station Retreat Radio has acted as a unifying force on the underground scene in Malmö for close to a decade and now offers its first compilation of original music from its vast community.

A community grown exponentially like a virus, with Retreat Radio as the source of infection, comprised of artists in various stages of despair revelling in hazy ambient, angular industrial rhythms and post-dub influences. Now bringing you 24 tracks of frog-induced head music made for a sad generation that wanted to be club kids but had no club to go to.

Many - if not all - of the names behind this mammoth of a compilation are Retreat residents with current or past monthly shows on the programme. Many of whom have walked the stark lit street at the outskirts of town at night to climb a spiral staircase above a carwash to play their shows.

Loosely centered around the interpretation of dub as a genre, the compilation hand-picks a curation of tracks which nonetheless point to a coherent vision: that of dub as a vital cornerstone in the development of new music reflecting on an urban post-capitalist environment.

It's an album I've been writing and collecting in bits and pieces for several years.
It begins with an appeal to the stars, moving into dreams and disappearing into a restless tomorrow, reviving in dreams and thoughts and an ode to the Scottish duo, freezes in an ode to winter and fall, with an iron march asking to protect the planet and goes into another endless cycle of life.

“Бесконечность [Infinity]” is not just an album of eight tracks and visuals, but a deep philosophical journey into the nature of boundless phenomena that lie beyond the boundaries of conventional perception. In this project, sound and idea merge to create a space where music becomes a living dialog about time and infinity. Each track reveals new spectrums of experience, making the listener think about how eternity permeates the moment. The sounds, as if transcending perception, generate an atmosphere where time dissolves and the moment becomes eternity. This is a work that is not just about sound - it opens the door to thinking about being itself in a limitless world.

On his second full-length 'Degenerate', Turkish producer, artist and designer Berk Çakmakçı uses a plethora of found and recorded sound to create shape-shifting compositions where noise, drone and post-club sounds are filtered through industrial textures. 'Degenerate's brooding sound design and disregard for textural uniformity —lo-fi soundbites from Youtube vids merge with sharp blasts of digital noise on short but intense ‘Spit’— is informed by the trans-international chaos of the political zeitgeist. The closer 'Nothing To Break' searches for a throughline in the current wave of destruction and death, and plays out like several movie trailers going simultaneously. Often making sharp turns within a single song, ‘Degenerate’ is ostensibly aggressive and fragmented. At the same time, it reconfigures the residue left by contemporary paranoias and obsessions. 

The album is mixed by Ahmet Türk and Berk Çakmakçı, mastered by Beau Thomas and features art by Bora Akıncıtürk and type design by Amir Jamshidi.

Shield Me From Death

Picking up immediately where Gunman left off (all furious doholla and rolling sub), Agrippa diffuses the tension, pulling right back into a haze of hopeful pads and industrial machinery. 

Almost as soon as Agrippa starts to build again it begins shedding layers, twisting into its final form where Badskin’s (C.M. Oliver) careful, treated guitar carries through to the resolution. Soft Light wastes no time in barrelling out of the haze of Agrippa, a hard drum hybrid of the three tracks that precede it. If Agrippa was a palate cleanse, it was in service of the four-to-the-floor kicks and thundering drum lines of Soft Light. 

Agrippa / Soft Light is the second of three EPs from Lithe to be released throughout 2020. Each track transitions into the next and listening to all three installments consecutively will reveal a fully realised mini-album.
