Following the emotive and personal ‘The Journey’ EP from Eddie Niguel, Ka§par (Lisbon, Portugal) and former RBMA participant in ’05 now brings his ‘Sisyphean Rage’ EP to the table.

Of the legend of Sisyphus and his endlessly laborious and futile effort this EP is not. Instead, it is a remarkable breakthrough for the long-standing artist, with combined light from both Detroit’s Jerry The Cat and the ever uncompromising Kirk Degiorgio for the remix.

The leading track, ‘Ravisher’ sees Ka§par flexing his mettle under the spotlight. The ruff n’ tuff house-meets-techno tumble will perk the ears of even the most seasoned listener as ripe for the dancefloor. An original composition is paired with comfortable expression, and casts a new stone in the heart of both genres. 

The B side shows the other side of Ka§par and delightfully, makes just as a powerful impression. One may know Jerry The Cat as a producer, DJ or percussionist on Theo Parrish and Moodymann productions, but the multi-talented cat puts on his singer-lyricist hat here for the personal anthem ‘Let Me Be’. Backed by Ka§par’s mod take on proto electro, it’s a revival gem captured on vinyl.

On B2, Kirk Degiorgio completes the all-rounded package with a less-says-more emotional instrumental, waiting needle to groove for that perfect moment. A vocal version remix of ‘Let Me Be’ is also available from Kirk Degiorgio as a digital bonus.

Hypercolour proudly announce the latest long player from UK stalwart, Ed DMX AKA DMX Krew, the visionary British electronic producer who has been responsible for a slew of excellent releases for labels like Rephlex, Spectral Sound, Permanent Vacation and his own Breakin’ Records and Fresh Up Records since the mid 1990s.

‘You Exist’ is DMX Krew’s debut appearance on Hypercolour, and as expected the record features nine tracks of beautifully crafted, melodic electronic sounds.  From the opener ‘Spiritual Encounter’, DMX sets the tone perfectly with oodles of pitch perfect synth riffs and driving drums, working his way through snappy and bright pop moments like ‘Hard Copy’ to more melancholic, darker cuts like ‘Computational Paradigm Shift’.  DMX breezes in and out of electro techno territory to more contemplative IDM vibes with ease, testimony to the guy’s talent (that’s also seen him wear the hat of over 10 aliases throughout his career to date).

‘You Exist’ captures a very true and genuine musical form, produced and delivered with love from one of the scene’s unsung heroes, and makes it a great companion piece to another Hypercolour released album from similar stock (take your pick from Luke Vibert’s 2014 ‘Ridmik’ album or his latest Kerrier District LP).  A consistent and engaging album then from DMX Krew that will pleasure the ear buds of discerning listeners everywhere.

Gary (who also goes by the name Slikk Tim) hails not from the streets of Detroit, Oakland or Atlanta, but from the post-industrial city of Nancy, France. While he might be a relatively new name as a producer, he’s got plenty of experience as a session musician for the likes of Dâm-Funk and Orlando Voorn, as well as having played for Los Hermanos, the project headed by Gerald Mitchell of Underground Resistance.

Indeed, it was Voorn who introduced Gary to Underground Resistance’s Mad Mike, who helped get him his first deal on Clone Records. Now Gary’s newest slice of futuristic electro funk – The Sugar Cane Chronicles Vol. 1 - is being released on Hypercolour next month.

The EP’s not out until 1st April (no foolin’) but we’ve got the exclusive premiere of the lead track, ‘Preachin’ Some Tight Game’. A super-groovy blend of fluttering jazz chords, silky caramel bass, and raw drum programming courtesy of Gary’s trusted 606. Topped off with a squiggly little G-funk melody that’ll worm its way inside your skull and set up shop for the spring.

PREMIERE: Gary Gritness - Working Girls

With two releases already under his belt on Clone, Gary Gritness AKA Slikk Tim lands on Hypercolour with “The Sugar Cane Chronicles Vol. 1”.

Gritness may be a relatively new name on the block, but his session work for artists like Kenny Bobien, Louie Vega and Grant Nelson has marked up this multi-instrumentalist as a clear talent.  Hailing from France, Gritness had been spotted by Underground Resitance’s ‘Mad’ Mike Banks as ‘one to watch’, and on his Hypercolour release, displays a deft hand of producing futuristic funk sounds. 

A spot on blend of raw drum programming and blissfull jazz funk riffs, “Preachin Some Tight Game” sets the EP’s tone just right with its infectious melodies and cruising groove.  Darker 1980’s soundtrack vibes are explored on “Stayin’ Strong Hand” with its thick analogue atmosphere, whilst the laid back and freestyle vibes of “Working Girls” demands to be played in the Cadillac with the top down!  EP closer, “Fly Shit”, continues with the tranquil melodies and G-Funk factor.
