Solid Steel (25th April) 20 years ago Nas released his legendary Illmatic album and DJ Moneyshot has put together an outstanding tribute mix 'Nas - Half-Man Half-Amazing'. As with the previous tribute mixes for the Beastie Boys, De La Soul and Public Enemy, it's more an audio documentary threading together sample sources, interview footage and remixes alongside the original Illmatic tracks. Hear the vocabulary, the flow and the rhythm expertly delivered by Nas, backed up by the sublime production of Pete Rock, DJ Premier, Large Professor and Q-Tip, plus original samples from Lee Erwin, The Heath Brothers, Ahmad Jamal and Reuben Wilson. All this deconstructed and rebuilt by Moneyshot for another classic Solid Steel edition.

Solid Steel (13th February) DJ Food - Selected Aphex Works

Unless you've been living under a rock recently you'll have heard the news that Aphex Twin unexpectedly uploaded 155 of his old and unreleased tracks to Soundcloud and made them downloadable for free. Starting from his earliest demos through to known live tracks, later jungle experiments and beyond, this is the motherlode that his fans have always wanted. DJ Food, a long-time Aphex fan, has been through the entire collection with a fine-toothed comb and selected his favourites for the first half of the show this week. The hit rate was high but he's has managed to cram 31 tracks into 85 minutes to mark this unique occasion and peppered the mix with vintage interview clips of Richard James talking about his music.

Lisbon’s Violet has contributed to the latest yearly UN Women compilation, ‘HeForShe x femme culture’. It follows femme culture’s volume two compilation, which saw contributions from Martyn Bootyspoon, Mr Mitch, India Jordan, Nightwave, Lone, and more. As before, all proceeds and sales from the HeForShe Vol. 3 will go to the United Nations Women, the global champion for gender equality. This year, donations from sales will go to making sure that the needs of womxn and girls are recognised and addressed in the global response to Covid-19, as domestic violence and sexual exploitation have sadly risen as a result of social isolation.
