One of the most busy and consistently excellent producers in all of electronic music is Boris Bunnik, and now he is back under his most loved alias, Conforce, on his most regular home, Delsin. As well as releasing as Versalife, Hexagon and many other monikers, the Dutchman is best known for his serious deep and underwater tracks that are part dub, part ambient and part techno. 

Opening up this new EP is title track 'Depth Over Distance'. Driven by buried deep kick drums, up top are thin lead lines that leave trails like beams of light as ticking percussion and more widescreen synths flesh out the airwaves. 'Plateau' is less spacious and has more detail in its midst including clacking hits which reverb off into the distance, supple and subtle bass notes and a general sense of aqueous fluidity all characterise this brain soothing bit of music. 

On the flip, 'Rendez-Vous' is more directed at the dancefloor with big drums, cold and edgy chords and gentle acid lashings. It's vast in size and scale once more, and drives along with a sense of muted menace. Finally, 'Closer' is another airy and cavernous bit of ambient music that is sombre and serious. Swathes of echo and reverb make for an immersive, underwater soundscape once again and close out the EP in devastatingly emotive style.

I made Chant de Paris the day before my first solo live show at the club showcase in Paris, hence the name for the track and EP.

Over the last 17 years, Sebastian Mullaert has had a long and distinguished career as one half of hardware experimentalist duo Minilogue, with releases on Cocoon, Wagon Repair and Crosstown Rebels. Now opting to focus more on solo endeavors, he hits the ground running with his sublime Ovum debut. Clocking in at a hefty 16 minutes in length, the title track is a heady excursion which flirts with reverb-drenched ouds and meandering keyboard scales, conveying an air of Arabic mystique. An array of acidic synths move in and out of focus, whilst skittering hi-hats and ride cymbals slowly build upon rafts of kinetic energy, all programmed with a deft, organic touch.In an impressive display of versatility, Mullaert promptly flips the vibe from Berlin basement to Ibiza sunset with Recapturing the Radical Self. It starts off similarly enough, with brooding 303 squelches and sharp claps, but slowly ascends into a state of full-on Balearic bliss. Hypercolour round off a busy year that has seen recent releases from the likes of Kerrier District, Gary Gritness, Roman Flugel, DMX Krew and Outboxx.  And in their 10th anniversary year, the label close 2016 with the heavyweight pairing of Mathew Jonson & Sebastian Mullaert.

Two summers ago, with no distinctive aims or deadlines, Jonson was invited to come and work with Mullaert and stayed for 5 days in the exceptionally beautiful surroundings of one of Sweden's National Parks. Inspiring a creative process far-removed from the harsh and harried pace of urban life; freedom to jam, play around and most importantly, reconnect with nature and the natural flow of ideas while deep in the forest, allowed their collective visions, directions and feelings to comfortably unwind. 
 
As Mullaert puts it "the freeing up of space and time allows an artist to rediscover him or herself. Frames can't be too rigid, static detail hinders the process to unfold in a beautiful way". Engaging mostly in ambientic-style sessions 'Pollen 4 Life' was made on a day the mood took them in the direction of the dance floor. True to form and still escaping any kind of prescribed formula, the music embodies this fluid, evolving journey and a sense of losing yourself...
 
Both long-time figureheads of electronic music, Mathew Jonson (one third of Cobblestone Jazz) and Sebastian Mullaert (one half of techno duo Minilogue) have been collaborators and an inspiration to each other for over a decade, first with releases on Jonson's label Wagon Repair and most recently as live trio Mathew Jonson vs. Minilogue, which only stopped touring last year. Originally meeting at the fabled Labyrinth festival in Japan 2005, Mullaert explains "our paths have crossed in different ways and now it's time for an EP together; the fruit of Mathew's visit to Röstånga. Pollen 4 Life".
