Hailing from Stavroupoli, Thessaloniki, Penelope’s Fiancé has been keeping over the past few years a fast pace of work, constantly producing tracks and releasing new music, having shaped a unique sound that drifts across the borders of lo-fi, post-industrial and fuzzy techno. The Cutting Edge Of A Knife is the culmination of all these previous excursions, a solid display of his ability to craft emotionally intense tracks, merging a ghostly, gloomy grandeur with squelching percussion.

Ice_Eyes - Vicious Circles

In Western culture, voice without speech is irrational and dangerous. Both in myth and history, those voices must be contained or prohibited because of the threat they pose to the social order. Female, animal, artificial and inanimate voices, lamenting, screaming, dreaming, mumbling. Fugitive voices, entangled in a parallel ‘nonhuman history’ devise a chorus yet to come. 

Future Chorus is based on a collection of readings, spoken word, nonlinguistic sound, poetry, MCing, cello and animal sounds — made by Abbas Zahedi, AGF, Elaine Mitchener, Eleni Ikoniadou, Jordan Edge, Joshua Leon, Lunatraktors, Ruth McGill, Sukitoa O Namau and Viki Steiri. The material was combined with machine learning processes — by Mohab Tarek — for the artificial generation of a new voice speaking a nonhuman language. The vocal database and AI voice became the raw material for five remixes — by AGF, Chino Amobi, Harrga, Savvas Metaxas, Trustfall and Lafawndah. 

This release is a collaboration between Hypermedium and MAENADS. A perpetually growing collective, MAENADS is a platform sonic, visual, performative or text-based projects, unleashing works that seek to inhabit polyphonic narratives, other worlds and subjectivities, group joy.

Future Chorus

Following up releases for labels such as angoisse and Jerome, Warsaw-based producer/DJ and MESTIÇO collective co-founder Lensk lands on Hypermedium for his third EP, Incised Shards. Unsettling the boundaries of club music, the EP's six tracks are a collection of vectors, fragments without place or stable meaning, always shifting - a messy drift. Its arrangements, laden with hardedged and off-kilter percussion, emotive synth textures and scattered scraps of vocals and noises, are deeply influenced by the disintegrating façade of reality: fears of conspiracies, modern technology and societal collapse enmesh with biblical visions, future birthing the past.
At once complex, spacious and resilient, Incised Shards' landscape seems desolate, albeit there is defiance hidden in the shattered pieces of which it is composed - the kind of defiance that urges to go straight through if this is what it takes to reach the outside.

Amongst the layers of sheets, she buried her head deep into the folds, hiding away from the world. Her bed had become an unhealthy sanctuary; a place for eating, sleeping and working. The outside filled her with dread, the thought of interaction with another forcing her chest to tighten and her breath to shorten. She willed the tears back into her ears, afraid to show how defeated she'd become, but she needed to accept the help that she'd spent so long ignoring.

Greek artist Penelope's Fiancé follows a string of tape releases on the likes of Clan Destine Records and Live Adult Entertainment, with a vinyl debut on Hypermedium. The Cutting Edge Of A Knife fuses the sounds he's become known for across his previous releases; a fuzzy blend of post-industrial, lo-fi and techno, and merges frantic percussion with ghostly, eerie atmospheres and thunderous bass lines.

Mighty Athenian duo Ice_Eyes have previously released their edgy club mutations on labels such as Seagrave, Genot Centre, ANBA, TAR and Ernest D. Tapes. They have now assembled an action- packed six-track EP for Hypermedium, making fine use of their futuristic mechanics and ultra-fine sonic weaponry.

Ice_Eyes’s approach on ‘Vicious Circles’ simulates a plethora of dark materials mixed together, sculpted with a laser light cutter, as reflected on the self-titled track. This nexus ushers the listeners to throw themselves to an eerie storm of outstanding grime-leaning kinetics like ‘HYDRO’ or to the claustrophobic space of ‘Folded’. The gabber-ish breakcore rhythmology of ‘BH Agony’ creates an urge to frantically gasp for air, while the elegiac euphoria of ‘Crystalbody’ is the centrepiece of its full rave energy. This eumorphic projection of pseudo cylindrical body phenomena is always present and changes the mood effectively. ‘Endless Clicks’ outro gives away that different twist of mood shifts by formulating hazy vocal phrases and circling stuttering crunchy layered beats arrangements. All in all, ‘Vicious Circles’ creates an idiosyncratic portrait of club cult ecstasy mood shifts.

Athens based artists Anastasios Tatsis and Spiros Alfa started their relationship as Ice_Eyes members some years ago. Together they produce leftfield electronic music. Both artists are constantly experimenting with modern club territories, techniques, and atmospheres. Their favorite palette of materials consists of advanced dynamic sound motifs, sub-zero pitched bass drops, and rhythmic alchemies.

Having released music on Seagrave [UK], Genot Centre [Czech], ANBA [Cairo], TAR [USA, Los Angeles], forthcoming on Ernest D. Tapes [France] and Hypermedium [Athens] their material is sculpted and emerging from a vast community of innovative artists. Also, their material is listed on many VA compilations on labels such as Gin & Platonic, Nous Disques, Comic Sans Records, Trial & Error, Radio Kapital etc.

Their music has been remixed/reformed from worldwide emblematic artists like ZULI, Renick Bell, Gallen Tipton, CXLO to mention a few, while their material is featured frequently in DJ sets/Radio shows of Lee Gamble, Grahan Dunning, Bapari, Lawson Benn (Public Order), Skyapnea, PBDY and others.

The prolific duo is currently hosting regular shows on Ma3azef Radio (Tunis), Threads Radio (UK) and Movement Radio (Movement Festival’s Radio slot, Athens), while they occasionally stop by NTS, Noods and other Radio stations/ hubs to spin new music.
