Four years ago Ma Sha launched Kindergarten Records into a world in which dancing in a club was impossible. The sounds brimmed with an intensity and intimacy that felt so far away during the Covid 19 lockdowns and the following months saw a slew of close friends in the scene join the label. Within the dearth of contact they conjured that missing feeling of togetherness with a series of mind-bending split EPs that ultimately laid the foundations for the crew that Kindergarten now represents.

With Slipstreaming, the first split EP on the label since 2021, Ma Sha teams up with Sobolik to return to Kindergarten’s origins in collaboration and pure energy. Taking cues from each other’s unfinished projects and bouncing ideas back and forth, the pair serve up the fastest EP the label has released to date. While it may be a surprise to fans of the label that these higher climes haven’t been breached before, the frantic dynamism is exactly what we’ve come to expect from Kindergarten releases.

“Ruines, Béton & Industrie” follows the 30-years-old friendship between Guillaume and Andrew. They met in Grenoble, the French techno city, home of The Hacker, Kittin and Etant Donnés. They also discovered rave culture together. It took almost 20 years before they recorded their first song. Between reality and the digital realm, they started to record, compose, write and exchange what would become this LP around 2020.

Bordeaux-based, Guillaume works as an artist plastician and sound performer. He is known for his project The Garçon and performs under the moniker Po.Go.

Berlin-based, Andrew spends most of his time there and in his studio in Bretagne, France. He is part of the electronic Disco band called Acid Washed and has collaborated with Patti Smith and Jean Michel Jarre.

Andrew and Guillaume incessantly travelled back-and-forth between Berlin and Bordeaux, communicating via email, to create this record. LPS founder Assaf, first encountered Andrew in the local Berlin scene and was astonished by his eclectic variety of electronic music; the type of art that fits the label like a glove. Beyond their sonic adventures, the duo inspired Assaf to rekindle his ‘not so hands-on’ virtues and express visual reverence, creating the album’s artwork.

Kicking off the New Year with Yerevan-based DJ and producer yutani and his latest EP, Dead Whales. This four-track release explores ritualistic, esoteric electronica, crafted using a combination of DAW production and field recordings. Active in the music scene since 2020, yutani has released tracks on labels like Ferma, Get Busy, and many others.

Dead Whales is a sonic journey filled with rhythms and textures designed to evoke an esoteric atmosphere, drawing inspiration from yutani's childhood memories. The EP's title track incorporates whale sounds that are eerie and otherworldly, a choice so striking it inspired the EP’s name. In “Dle Yaman,” yutani weaves the vocals of legendary Armenian folk singer Hayrik Muradyan, performing the traditional song “Dle Yaman,” into his composition.

Galtier enters for his fifth instalment on his own label with ‘Opaque Envelopes’; an exploration of frequency and tilted sound processing across four slick, mid-tempo creations. Having leant heavily into hardware-focused productions, Galtier has refined his use of raw, one-take recordings and hand-crafted audio inflections, carving out a space dripping with feedback channels, aggressive modulation and dense, weighty sub bass, the collection makes for a set of highly functional, warehouse-ready rollers.

The EP carries itself along a subtle, evolutionary line, where Galtier hones in on transient, shifting soundscapes of rich, searing synthetics, all glued together with tight, syncopated rhythms that channel dubstep and electro. The intention is for each piece to sound alive; teeming with a life of its own, full of personality and vitality that breathes throughout. A significantly mature body of work that encapsulates the decade and a half journey into sound that he has embarked on.

Bristol-based dancefloor provocateurs Down To Earth embark upon the maiden voyage of a newly-minted record label with the 'Analysis Paralysis EP' from co-founder Remotif. This debut release sets the stage for a new chapter for DTE by inviting listeners into their own sonic orbit, with aural manifestations weaved into being by members of the collective and its close friends.

Remotif’s first release in nearly a year, he’s spent this time patiently honing his sound, distilling the melodious rapture of previous releases into an altogether sleeker, darker concoction. The journey begins with the title track, a pulsating celebration of the feminine divine; barrelling rhythms and low-end heft coalesce with seductive vocal incantations for a kaleidoscopic climax.

Following this, 'Tinto Cringe' descends deeper into the lysergic rabbit hole. Muscular, driving kicks underpin celestial midrange ripples and razor sharp hi-hats, blending sonic complexity with understated danceability. As the EP progresses, 'The Frogs Are Back' shifts the energy with a slower, entrancing pace - ideal for moments when the dancefloor craves a deeper connection.

Rounding out the EP, DTE’s own Boulderhead gently brings dancers back to earth with a stripped back remix of 'Analysis Paralysis'. He dials back the intensity of the original with a cheeky wink and a nudge, deftly streamlining it with his trademark bouncy-yet-minimal aesthetic.

Since its inception in 2020, Italo Moderni’s energy, spirit and inspiration has been the dancefloor. The darkened bunkers of Belgium, the trembling speakers of Valencia, the warming dawn of Rimini, these influences have been the lifeblood. Solidifying this tireless effort, Mellow Bangers Vol 2 is the label’s most ambitious collection to date.

In celebration of the imprint’s fifth anniversary, fifteen artists gather with every single one united under a rallying cry. From across the globe, machinists have been drawn together to deliver a statement of acid and wave, of electro and synth with flourishes of italo. The shadowy fringes of the floor are well represented, audio artisans like Cyrk and Djedjotronic serving distorted drums and melodies dripping with menace. Brightening these tones are the likes of Lauer with his Balearic infusions or Gravedad Cinética’s otherworldly “Fake Atmosphere.” Amongst the litany of talent are musicians who have both inspired Italo Moderni as well as those who have appeared on the label. Antoni Maiovvi fits such a description, the sound sorcerer slicing beats through bittersweet bars in the immersive “Stopping Power.” Ceaselessly developing the Spanish scene, Iberian artists are rightly showcased. Madrid’s David Poziano offers the cascading luminance of “In Search of Gold”, shimmering synthlines punctuated by breathy samples and pulsing percussion. New discoveries rub shoulders with established veterans, E-Bony’s bending and undulating “Brain U.F.O.” beside rising names like Ivan Pavletsov with the steely “No Future” and DjBoeing with the beaming joy of “Cheetah.”

Mellow Bangers Vol 2 is a breathless expression of the floor. A contemporary imagining of the racing rhythms and addictive hooks of the 1980s and 1990s. Fifteen works that summarise what Italo Moderni is and will continue to be.

Bogotá-Berlin based audio visual studio Activity Vision announce Activity FM, a new record label for 2025 with an upfront four track V/A EP featuring a global batch of techno and electro visionaries DJ Hell, Truncate, DJ T-1000 and Mark Broom. The label’s mission is to focus on presenting new sounds from respected names alongside up and coming talent from their native South America and beyond, marrying the visual dynamic of their work with their passion of electronic music culture. Expect a series of digital releases dropping regularly this year covering all sides of club music from the techno, electro, house and breakbeat continuums.

This first V/A EP sets out the tone for AFM with a set of four heavy-weight club tracks - DJ Gigolo founder DJ Hell is first up with heavy-set darkside thumper ‘Scale’. The lead single from the EP, Truncate’s ‘Where Do We Go’ comes next and is dominated by a juiced up acid line, this one is aptly timed to drop on international 303 day. Legendary producer and graphic artist DJ T-1000 (Alan Oldham) presents a new DJ T-1000 track ‘No Victims Only Volunteers’ next - a masterclass in Detroit machine funk. For the closing track on this V/A EP, UK techno don Mark Broom opened up his DAT archive to exclusively release ‘Nineties’ for the first time which was originally produced between 1992-1993 in the golden era of UK warehouse techno.

Originally hailing from Venezuela - Activity Vision create high-quality audiovisual content for the electronic music industry and was established a decade ago by a team of 90’s and early 2000s rave scene pioneers. Founded by Elektor, Dagga and Mickey they are more than industry-leading content creators but a tight-knit network and community of music lovers, DJs, producers and creatives that also include Manao, Confidential Recipe, DJ Melej, Club Soxial, DJ OddO and Ara_u in their ranks. In the last 10 years they have worked with over 400 artists and 40 labels, projects and communities including Get Physical, R&S, Rekids, International Chrome, Ovum and Richie Hawtin’s From Our Minds event series.

For Activity FM’s releases the collective will keep visual storytelling at the core of what they do taking inspiration from Detroit techno’s artwork traditions and the likes of Alan Oldham, Underground Resistance as well as Jack Kirby’s classic American comics. They set out to have a strong visual identity to match the vibrancy of their releases, watch out as they plan to grow and build the label through digital and vinyl releases, events and live-streams.

Truncate teams up with Chicago icon DJ Hyperactive for the ‘Trust The Process’ EP, landing on the former’s eponymous imprint this March. Crafted over the past two years in Truncate’s LA studio, the release marks the pair’s first-ever collaboration in twenty years of friendship and sees them delve deep into their decade-long wealth of knowledge of versatile House and Techno.

DJ Hyperactive and Truncate’s ‘Trust The Process’ starts with ‘Universal Function’, a no-holds-barred dance track with mind-addling loops, each sequence carefully overlapping to melt the ‘floor. The title track then strips things back a little, in which they underpin wiggy acid sounds with an effective groove before ‘Space Shuffle’ shoots for the stars with trickling synthlines and rolling rhythm. ‘Matter Of Time’ then closes out this all-purpose offering with dark, bleepy melodies laid over locked organic drums for another tasty set of cuts on the Truncate label.

Truncate, synonymous with the LA Techno scene as one of its most stalwart champions for over a decade, is known for his quality, groove-driven Techno and handy DJ tools on labels like Hardgroove, his Truncate imprint, and jackin’ WRKTRX sublabel. Luxus Varta comes to Specimen Records with Magnetic EP, dropping six new tracks of intelligent and intricate electro.

With a discography spanning respected labels Solar One Music, Brokntoys, Trust, Klakson, and his own imprint, In Abstracto, Luxus Varta has solidified his reputation as one of the most distinctive voices in the electro scene. This release demonstrates further his knack for constructing complex, evocative tracks that work for the deep and dark dancefloor moments.

The EP opens with the deep, brooding bass of title track, Magnetic, setting a moody and immersive tone. It then shifts into the off-kilter machine funk of Broken Tube, before leading into the sharp electro beats of Gelatin 55. Colour Splitter continues the journey on the EP with a dense, atmospheric composition rich in sound design, followed by Post-Mortem Meeting which is another perfect example of Luxus Varta’s melancholic overtones. The release closes out with Linoleum, dense with layered synth work and driven by shuffling beats.

CKFM number 43 comes in the form of a stormer of a mix from Inverness stalwarts Hypnotic Groove. 

Johnny & Andrea have been going to raves since the 90s and have the stories along with the record collections to prove it. Their party, label and mix series Hypnotic Groove is an institution in the Highlands and the couple are rightly seen as taste makers when it comes to house & techno in the area. Having recently performed in La Cheetah club Glasgow along with a mix for Rinse FM on the Huntleys & Palmers show, they have kindly provided the next hour for your listening pleasure.

This is a journey through stripped back techno with flecks of acid, foot stomping rides and the odd broken beat thrown in for good measure.
