Helena started out as a resident DJ at Pudel Club in Hamburg, a legendary space where she perfected her mixing skills that now make her one of the best djs in the world 🧨  

Over the last 10 years she has not only stuck to djing but also produced her own music, resulting in two albums that she released in 2015 & 2018 which were both widely celebrated, as well as several EPs. 

For Spandau20 she has delivered one hour of pure vinyl-mastery, full of electro / breakbeat gold and we couldn’t be prouder to share it with you today 🖤

TF #294: DOVS (AAAA + Tin Man) - live act

Tin Man and AAAA summon the ethereal spirit of acid. Tin Man, AKA Johannes Auvinen, has been studying the emotional potential of the Roland TB-303 for 15 years now, and AAAA (Gabo Barranco), a fixture of the Mexico City underground, might as well be his acolyte. While the coincidental similarities of their studio and live approaches make this collaboration feel natural, even expected. This recording was taken from the underground party EXT. in Mexico City, a reference for the true rave in this city with its guerrilla communications and the use of unusual abandoned spaces as scenery as an alternative to the usual common club spaces.

The Forgotten CCXCIV: DOVS (AAAA + Tin Man) - live

Berlin-based creative Cecilia Tosh joins us for this week’s LT Podcast with a texturally deep and dubby techno mix, representative of her ”inner world, but maybe also of Berlin's new change.” ✨

In Cecilia Tosh's words:
There has been a "BPM peak" in Berlin culture in recent months (to a few years). Probably hardly missed by anyone. 📈

Most DJs were playing around 140 BPM upwards. I also had great fun with it - at least in some club gigs. 

But slowly it's getting quieter and deeper again for me. 

In this mix I left a lot of space for the individual dubby and percussive elements and enjoyed playing with them. 
It is a very good snapshot of my inner world, but maybe also of Berlin's new change. I'm curious where this will evolve next.

Planet-friendly overtures as much as feelgood body-shakers, her jungle beats have also worked to support NGOs and non-profits with a focus on environmental protection. Out at the start of October via Garde-Robe Records, her aptly named first release ‘Earth Call’ is one you definitely shouldn’t miss. Key Clef is a Berlin based, italian dj and producer with strong passion for analogue instruments, founder of the label Ipnotica Erotica. After experiencing the last years of the flourishing rave scene in Rome and accomplishing a degree in sound engineering her creative process evolved into different directions from club music, to performance art and electro acoustics. In 2013 she released her first digital EP followed by releases on Love Blast, KKY, MinimalRome, BlackWater, DelirioRec, Mitten and Undersound Rec. In her own world music is a continuous dialogue between styles and hybridization. Her music productions as well her live performances include synth, drum machines and analogue effects reflecting her ethereal trajectory while her dj sets show the full prism of her music taste and knowledge of the dance floor. Key Clef sound doesn’t hit the surface but instead aims to channel emotions and contact between her music and the audience.

During the pandemic she founded ACXS, a community of artists with a common profit through the production and sale of sample packs created using instruments provided by partnerships with professional audio equipment brands. The roster of this project includes artists such as Alessandro Adriani, Silent Servant, Neel, The Lady machine, Marco Shuttle, Iren Amnes and many more. Key clef not only wants to bring its music to the public but also wants to give its commitment to the environment by creating projects that can be useful to a network of artists.

"Live improvised hardware connects so directly to the fundamental rawness of electronic music." UK techno lynchpin Surgeon reflects on his connection to machines and making music on the fly.

Surgeon, also known as Anthony Child, has been one of techno's most influential and consistently brilliant artists since the mid-'90s. For the last decade, he has spent most of his creative resources on developing his abilities as a live performer, in his usual techno environment as well as more abstract settings. As Child reinforces in this live Dekmantel Exchange with Aaron Coultate, his live performance practice is at the heart of his creativity. "There was literally one day I woke up and realized that having the computer—DJing, as it were—was getting in the way of taking this form of performing further," he says. "That was determining the structure of what I was doing. And to be truly freeform and improvisational I had to be free of this imposed structure."

This archived conversation comes on the heels of Surgeon's most recent LP, Crash Recoil, which RA music critic Kiana Mickles hailed as "one of his best albums ever."
