The tension was palpable in the mission control room, everybody held their breath, eyes fixated on the towering screen in front of them. This was the moment they'd all been waiting for; years and years of work had led them to this point. They were responsible for the success of this mission, not only did their fate rest on this going right, so did people's lives.

After a mini hiatus from their thick and fast schedule, Liepzig's R.A.N.D. Muzik are returning for their first release of 2021: a debut EP from newcomer Jay Gadian. Made up of four original cuts, the release gives you a window into the producer's tastes, floating from twinkling breaks to emotive house and shimmering electro.

space•lab records launches its interstellar mission to bring wigglers and warpers from all corners of the galaxy with a V/A made in Birmingham. Adam Pits kicks things off with Real Taste Of Gravity, a rising, trancey journey with a wonderful proggy bassline and synths-a-twinkling. Desert Sound Colony & Dr. Baird combine for the warpy, acid-flecked bassy roller Space Bass Express before Breaka and Adam Pits join for a classy breaks track with bubbling EFX called The Show Must Go On, named after Nic reversed a van into a parked car after setting up the space•lab party in Brum where they all met. Inner Zone (Rupert Worthington, Alex Anderson and label head Nic Baird) round things off with their debut release Niaaru - a sunrise weeper for those who like breakbeats with their Coco Pops.

Butter Sessions swiftly follows up Sleep D's May release BSD-01 with two complimentary heavyweights for a 12" release, Freak of Nature. Listeners may feel acquainted with the tracks as both have served as a staple in Sleep D's live set over the last 12 months.


Freak Of...is a strong beckon of electro-tinged techno that lures with a fearless pulse and an entrancing inflection, utilizing the faithful sounds of the Roland Jupiter 6, Super Jupiter and TR-09. The follow-up echoes basslines and percussion to overtly fuse the two tracks together. Nature taps further into Sleep D's homage to the live techno greats of the 1990s and early 2000s, mirroring their vigorous and eager momentum. Overall, Freak of Nature hits as an anesthetic swirl of brisk looping and thoughtful production.

Mike Gill, Nick Gynn and Johnny Hunter’s Superlux Records opens up its 2021 release schedule this February with a fourteen-track VA. Superlux 004: Lost In The Future is the label’s first compilation release and sees a myriad of artists make their debut, including Voigtmann, Krywald & Farrer and many more.

Speaking on what the release symbolises, Superlux founding-member Mike Gill described how: “Lost in the Future is a musical representation of the current London electronic music scene. We wanted to showcase the artists who work with and around us, who really put their heart and soul into creating genuine tracks that represent underground music culture.”
