Etch's forthcoming album "Ups & Downs" is a collection of cuts that date as far back as 2014 and up to the present day. Featured here, 'Groove Control' is a throwback to old school Jungle and Rave tendencies. Etch's music is informed by psychedelic experiences, sci-fi, occult and horror films and the evolution of gaming. This is then combined with a deep love of sampling vinyl and rearranging breakbeats in an unforced homage to his family roots in UK hardcore Breakbeat, Jungle and D&B. Furthermore, these hybrids are often filtered through a keen understanding of current musical developments which are then explored and deployed where it feels appropriate.

Scuffed Recordings line up the fifth release in the Scuffed Presents compilation series, looking ahead to 2021 with four new artists to the label, and sounds ranging from broken bass, UK garage, rave-inspired breaks, and rolling techno.

The ‘Scuffed Presents’ VA compilations have become a yearly fixture in the Scuffed Recordings schedule - with previous Scuffed Presents alumni including such Scuffed mainstays as Nikki Nair, Dubrunner, and An Avrin - and Scuffed Presents 005 will bring four more exciting new artists into the Scuffed roster.

Opening the release is Austrian producer Awo Ojiji, a longstanding member of the Graz-based collective Disko404 who released his debut ‘Static Flow’ EP in 2020 on Eternal Ocean. His unique interpretation of broken, bass-led techno on ‘Woozy’ marks him out as an artist to watch in 2021.

Londoner Doctor Nick will be a name familiar to those with their ears to the ground of UK dance music in the last few years, with previous appearances on Super Kitchen, Strictly Flava, and Slime Recordings among others. On ‘Squelch’, Nick creates an addictive fusion of classic UKG skippiness with a springy 303 bassline.

Next up is Maya Q, a resident of London collective Co-Select, and an artist whose idiosyncratic approach to production is evident all over ‘Belief’; where she pairs weighty subs and driving breaks with twisted vocal samples and eerie pads.

Rounding off the compilation is Moscow-based Dawn Razor, whose impressive workrate has recently landed him appearances on labels like Holding Hands and R&S. ‘Dreamproof’ is a rolling techno slammer and the perfect way to close out the release.

The release has a distinctive west-coast vibe, with both hyped up G-Funk and Electro Bass to be found across the four-tracker 🌴 The name, presumably, is a nod to this as the Bostonian beatmaster puts his Eastside spin on this funky G-Ride. Tim Reaper returns to Lobster Theremin with a weighty masterclass of all things old school jungle, rave and D&B.

2020 has been a massive year for the rising London-based DJ/producer Tim Reaper, with an impressive output of twelves on labels such as 7th Storey Projects, Disc World & Repertoire, Beyond Electronix. 

On top of this, Reaper was also nominated in the ‘Break through Producer' category at this years DJ Mag awards, as well as the ‘Best Remix/Edit’ category. 
2020 has paved the way for what is set to be a massive future from the versatile producer, his infectious brand of high energy jungle & D&B is making him the producer on every ones lips.

His latest outing ‘Teletext’ EP for London based record label Lobster Theremin explores deep all things bass driven, head high rave breaks sit on top of euphoric vocals and synth patterns, creating a feel good masterpiece. 

Tim joins forces with long time friend & collaborator Devnull on two tracks, blending both of the producers individual sounds into a hybrid mash up, which works oh so good.

Asquith is back for 2021 with a heavy selection of jungle, techno and hardcore tracks that dive deep into the sub-heavy rave continuum.

Following up a smattering of releases in pandemic year 2020 including Love Is A Mystery, Rave Til Dawn and Temple Runner, plus the scorching Acid Monkfish as Reehl and the deep diving You Know How Much You Mean To Me as Vanisher. Time Warp sets the tone for a year of renewal and further growth, channeling the influence of some of his Lobster contemporaries and an expansion into further sound development.

The EP opens with the title track 'Time Warp'. Weighty rhythmic low end  collides with glowing pads, vocal calls and MIT bleep synths in a techno-bass-bleep cross-genre melting pot. 'Back To Dannys (Ripped CD Mix)' evokes a past time of post-rave drives back to ya mates'. Semi-detached afterparty shenanigans, the original spirit of rave, baggy pullovers and keeping the party alive.

The flip side opens with 'Enter The Core', a classic Asquith booming warehouse techno number with glacial synths and stocky, plastic break chops. The EP closes out with 'Clapton Rider (Original Mix)'. A retro-leaning jungle number dusted off from the drafts and given a lease of life as the B2. A warm, breaks-heavy number for the close.
