8. Spanish Gypsy

Until quite recently I lived the Sierra Guadarrama mountains in Spain for several years where I was exposed to a lot of excellent Flamenco music, which is the music of the Gypsies or Romani. 

Being a guitarist myself I couldn't help but get sucked into figuring out how to play this style on guitar. While I was learning, I was struck by the similarity between Flamenco and North African and Indian music and when I analysed it, I found that they share certain musical scales. (interestingly the Romani were originally a nomadic tribe from northen India that travelled to Europe in the12th century) 

Another musical conjunction was the similarity (to me) between the harmony and rhythm of the opening bars of that quintessentially Spanish dance the Pasa Doble and a lot of Trance built on a gallop rhythm. 

So the original inspirational spark began with the possibility of combining all these musical threads into one piece of music. So, I started by creating the melody on a Flamenco scale, over the rhythm of the Pasa Doble with it's semi-tone harmonic movement and mixed that with certain elements of the older Indian influenced Goa-trance sound, but built it all on a foundation of the big kick and bass from the more modern Psytrance sound. 

Later I dusted off the (steel strung) acoustic and recorded some melodic guitar parts using some newly learned Flamenco licks to emphasis the Gitano flavour. 

The track you hear is the result of this weird musical synthesis of Goa, Psy trance, Flamenco and the Pasa Doble.

BRAINCELL is a solo project of Switzerland based Producer Ralph K.
Ralph has been developing his unique style over the last few years and has built a great reputation around the world with his psychedelic, twisting leads and full-on driven beats.

Starting in 1994 as a producer and DJ he founded the project RASTALIENS together with his friend Jay. The latest album „Back on earth“ was releases on Phar Psyde Records in 2007. 

In 2003, when he moved to Switzerland with his wife, he decided to start his own project BRAINCELL. The first album „Universal Language“ was released on Glowing Flame Records in 2005, which was followed by an impressive string of releases on various compilations and labels. In 2007 the second album „Transformation of reality“ came out and the 3rd album „Frequency Evolution“ was released in September 2008 on Glowing Flame Records.
Newest edition of his work you can get since December 2010 on Free Spirit Rec. "Intelligent Being", as well as Digital EPs on Beatport etc.
To date he has played on every major continent in countries like USA, Brazil, Australia, Italy, Germany, UK, Greece, etc. and received much praise for his energetic and emotional live shows and DJ Sets.
Since 2007 Ralph is also producing tracks under the project name SOLAR SPECTRUM, which represents the more progressive side of his creativity.
The debut album of SOLAR SPECTRUM was released on Free Freak Records as well with already two releases on Glowing Flame Records and Free Freak Records.2nd album "(R)evolution of conciousness" released 2010 on Free Spirit Rec.

Undoubtedly the best ambassadors for the progressive scene in Israel for a decade.
The duo consists of Lior Maimon and Shay Tiab, and over the years they have been consistently been on top of the game, from the dark tech and psychedelic trance inspired sounds on their first album 'Dejavoodoo' in 2002, to the mellower, melodic progressive trance sound on 'Free Fall' and their more progressive house and tech house inspired sound in recent years.

Lish's debut album "Dejavoodoo" was released on February 2002 in U.S.T.A - under ground sound of Tel Aviv (a.k.a. Krembo records). The reviews of the album were: "they successfully combine European sound, tolerance and Israeli sweeping energies with blend of progressive trance and tech trance at its best quality". The impact of the album dragged world wide recognition and a huge crowd of fans and mark them as pioneers of the Israeli progressive music.

Their second album "Free Fall" was released on March 2005 in Compact Records, and was a huge success.
This original creation ranked Lish as one of the leaders in the global progressive trance scene, and the album has been chosen as the album of the year

One of Lish's biggest hit "Fresh" of their second album followed by a unique single "Fresh - remixes - single malt" was made for Dj's of all genres and included nine different remixes from chill out through progressive trance.

The 3rd album 'Miles Away' has been in the works for a while, and it oozes with quality. The grooves are uplifting and aimed for the dance floor, and the duo have carefully selected some of the best elements of the techno and minimal wave, while still maintaining elements of their past in trance.

Lish collaborated and remix with producers such as Weekend Heroes, Magitman, Johnson & Haske, Ticon, Flippers, Thomas Penton, Alter Breed, Freq, Liquid Soul, Karl Johan, Vibrasphere, Ace Ventura (on "The Light", a huge hit from his debut album), with Yotopia (on the powerful groovy track "Intoxicated" also from their debut album) and with Michele Adamson on "Concrete Jungle".
These releases were on top labels like Iboga, Plastik Park, Stereo Seven Plus, Echoes, Tribal Vision, Blue Tunes, Spin Twist, Flow; Alpha Zero and many others.

You’ve waited for it, you tried to guess what is the second Phrase, and now it is finally here… Darker, Deeper, Better… Phrase B! After accumulating experiences across the globe Ritmo has finalized the other side of the Phrase, it is absorbed with a more atmospheric intense sensation and brings an amalgamation of the highest quality Progressive sounds in the galaxy. Ritmo keeps his musical integrity in order to push the boundaries of the music industry and has worked hard on crystallizing what is believed to be the future sound of Progressive Trance music.

Ritmo, aka Dubi Dagan from Tel Aviv Israel has conquered the top of the Progressive kingdom in a few years, sneaking into our hearts with his modesty and shyness on the one hand, and his furious and energetic performance on the other, there is no way you can resist his magic! After releasing his debut album Disharmonic Silence on Iono Music in 2008 Ritmo has started to raise much attention, he continued with his acclaimed compilation Archive 9 and has been one of the first family members of Iono Music. From that moment on he released many quality gems, being the uncompromising artist that he is, always working hard to mould the perfect sound. Along the way he had some collaborations: Ritree with Suntree aka Alon Brilant and Arctic with Gaudium aka Andreas Wennersköld.

Although we live in a world of uncertainties, Phrase B is a piece of art you know that starts with The Truth, that inner voice that whispers in your ear that you are going on the right path. It is a crazy time indeed, an era where we experience The War Against the Machines that took over every piece of human landscape and digitized it. They would want to make us believe that this is The Way We Are, but we know better don’t we? All you need to do is to think At the Beginning, when it was all much more simple, pure and free. Luckily we have a visiting artist to remind us that reality can have many interpretations, and he gave us his own unique one. This Perfect Stranger, aka Yuli Fershtat, has remodelled the notorious hit Follow Me and gave it his own special minimal-techy touch which enhanced the magic of the track. It left no other choice but to Follow me… well, Are you coming?

Ramson Badbonez returns for Record Store Day with a little peek at his next project. Teaming up with Billy Brimstone on some old Italian Giallo craziness we see him emerge as the Silva Surfa on the track 'Warlords and Immortals'. 
Jehst takes charge of production on the flip with a banging futuristic slice of space funk in his remix of 'Power Cosmic' (from Kashmere's Galaktus LP). Kash came through to respit a different verse and this time is joined by Ramson Badbonez and Phoenix Da IceFire.

Freedom Fighters is Shahaf Efrat (1989), Based in Tel Aviv, Israel.
He is making music since 2005 and with a rapid rise to fame, performing worldwide since 2007.
His music can be described as Techno oriented Progressive Psytrance mixed with everyday life experiences. Whether its a heavy underground psychedelic or a crystal clear techno oriented tune, You can be sure to recognize his unique signature sound in every record he produce.
He collaborated, remixed and been remixed by leading artists such as Astrix, Skazi, Captain Hook, Union Jack, Gms, Pixel, Domestic, Liquid Soul, Sub6 and Avalon to name a few.
Over the years, Shahaf made his mark with some highly acclaimed records; Among them is his anthem "Marshmallows" (with Captain Hook) who took the world by storm with over 1 million hits on Youtube. Not forgetting "Falafel" (with Skazi) who made it as a theme song in the Israeli Music Channel (24) series "Skazi TV".
Signed with the heavyweight label "HOMmega", He uses all his free time between shows to work on his next releases with the final destination being his debut album.
