cadeu has been collaborating with Hyperboloid for almost 5 years. During this time, the musician managed to explore completely different paths in sound design and production. From the emptiness and fragmentation of the 'de' album to experiments on format compositions on 'un'. Hyperboloid is always open to the experiments of his wards, which allowed the author to try out a variety of ideas in the search and understanding of his own sound and approach to electronic music in general. So, on 'hy', an album named after the label, cadeu doesn't try to put any heavy conceptual forms on the tracks, but rather plays with space, snatches of musical phrases and blocks of composition. The result is an intricate, but comprehensible sound pattern at the same time, with references to different styles - be it bass, IDM, glitch or jungle. As always, cadeu's music is difficult to characterize with genre clichés - 'hy' can be both a club and home thing, or just a fan piece. Tracks can be safely put in sets, you can walk to them with headphones or thoughtfully explore this diverse sound canvas.

От пустоты и фрагментарности альбома 'de' до опытов над форматными композициями на 'un'. Hyperboloid всегда открыт экспериментам его подопечных, что позволило автору опробовать самые разные идеи в поиске и понимании собственного звука и подхода к электронной музыке в целом. Так, на 'hy' [хай], альбоме названном в честь лейбла, cadeu не пытается натянуть на треки какие-либо тяжелые концептуальные формы, а скорее играет с пространством, обрывками музыкальных фраз и блоками композиции. Получается замысловатый, но в то же время понятный для восприятия звуковой узор, с отсылками к разным стилям, будь то bass, глитч, IDM или джангл. Как и всегда музыку cadeu сложно охарактеризовать жанровыми клише - 'hy' может быть и клубным и домашним, и просто фановым произведением одновременно. Треки можно смело ставить в сетах, гулять под них в наушниках или вдумчиво исследовать это многообразное звуковое полотно.

A label undefinable by genre and rather by attitude, Moscow’s Hyperboloid Records have paved their way with an unwavering focus in curation. With a catalogue stretching back as far as 2008, Hyperboloid have continually sewn together futuristic productions and aesthetics, all the while building a family of artists who rep this same forward-facing mentality. 

A regular appearance within this sizable discography is Berlin sound artist, cadeu. Together with Hyperboloid, they now prep the forthcoming album ‘hy’; named after the label. This new body of work arrives without any conceptual forms inside, instead playing with space, composition and syncopation of moving parts. 

In ‘omg’, cadeu intricately weaves jagged glitch with a smooth and moody dancehall-esque refrain. An intensive skit-style track, hitting in a way that is as much body-jilting as it is brain-blowing.

After making her debut into the world of dark, deconstructed club music on Infinite Machine in late 2017, Ani Klang is releasing her latest hard-hitting, genre-blending EP on Russian label, Hyperboloid Records to round out a busy year of releases in 2020.

‘BURN THE EMPIRE’ is a powerful statement piece seeking to disprove the pervasive belief that womxn and queer people are primarily working and creating music to “empower others.”

After growing frustrated with commentators deeming every bold piece of womxn-made art as an “outspoken feminist act” and forcing political causes on female/non-binary compositions when none are intended, Klang has challenged this trend and created a piece of work that is emphatically not an “empowering anthem for womxn everywhere.”

Armed with frustration, pain, and a little irony, Klang has built her own empire on the outskirts of genre, and all who are open are invited. She is releasing this record with hopes to begin dismantling the notion that womxn’s music is only meant to serve as a political weapon to fight misogyny. There must be something more meaningful womxn have to say to each other besides ‘you can do it too.’

She began grappling with this idea several years ago, when she felt pressured by the underground club community to be “outspoken” to have her music heard. In a 2018 Instagram post, she explained her frustrations as follows:

“I feel like being ‘outspoken’ is almost a prerequisite for being a successful woman at anything these days.It’s not enough to just be an artist who happens to be female – you have to empower women somehow and put your political opinions at the forefront of your art to be considered ‘relevant’. To be completely honest, I find it frustrating as hell. […] I want women to feel empowered but there are so many other creative ways to do this than just talking about feminism. We should be allowed to just BE artists who make records about death, masturbation, chocolate cake, or whatever the hell we want!”

‘BURN THE EMPIRE’ journeys from 145-160 BPM and showcases punchy, fluttery, footwork-inspired kick patterns, layers of heavily manipulated industrial textures and ironically political self-recorded samples (i.e. feminist podcasts, orgasms, and ex-girlfriends crying and singing) bound together by a rave-friendly mentality. Featuring scorching remixes by formidable artists like A.Fruit, Daniel Ruane, and Pixelord, ‘BURN THE EMPIRE’ is an intense sonic excursion through the mind and body of a female artist, eager to set the underground club scene on fire.

With match in hand, Ani Klang urges listeners to fully understand the following before organizing a livid mob armed with extinguishers on her front lawn:

“I am not intending to belittle or invalidate any collective or artist whose primary premise and passion is to empower others. Rather, I am encouraging commentators and listeners to understand and appreciate our unique concepts and technological capabilities before lazily assuming our artistic motivations.

It’s time we Burn the Empire of exhausted empowerment and construct our own domain, fortified by authenticity, legitimacy and resiliency. We’re are not examples, we are exasperated, and we’re gonna burn shit.”

* ‘womxn’ inclusively refers to any female-bodied or non-binary individual, queer or an otherwise unique human who deviates from standard cisgender identities.

REMADE is an imprint dedicated to the convergence of club dynamism and sound design intricacy.

The first release, Body Mirage, is SHALT’s introduction to this zone. Built on three tracks formed of pulsing bass, off-kilter drums and warping melodies, it is weighted between the kinetic dancefloor and slick digital synthesis.

“Mercury Pool” dives furthest down the rabbithole, constructing its own multi-dimensional environment out of viscous synths, glitching vocal effects and cascading bass plunges.

Sun People is renown for his footwork-inspired beat craft and ability to weave his black music influences into his pounding patterns. ‘The Walls’ is the blueprint. Tension is set by the relentless beats while release is felt in the breezy Detroitian chords midway. Inspired as much by early Chicago house music as it is 80s European proto hardcore and the current turbo sound championed by the likes of Fracture, Itoa and BSN Posse, it’s fully backed by a killer remix from Anna Morgan.
