A compilation of various polishing diamonds found deep in the Earth itself. Each diamond produced under high pressure and temperature some 250 kilometres in the Earth’s mantle. From breakbeat to house and techno and further into acid and trance, Truth Diamonds 3 consists of 10 crystal elements with the ability to disperse light of different colors and emotions. Truth diamonds can be worth millions.

Following a debut EP release on Brazilian record label Yellow Island Records and a hypno-house debut album on colourful L.A imprint 100% Silk, California producer Etari readies four air-fresh cuts of club melodia designed for those deep moments in the dance on Running Out Of Steam.

Aesthetics of both artist and label are a heaven-made match; favouring melodic grooves and broken-beats that trigger blissed-out experiences both spiritual and physical. ‘Chemistry’ makes use of broken Baltimore rhythms and blends them with warped, supernatural vocals, feeding into both worlds of melancholy and paradise. 

‘Cinnamon Spice’ maintains the tempo with a fairy-light cut of footwork-electro – a sequence that begs to be lost in, angelic strobes of light beaming onto a looping trip cinematic sound – before the lo-fi house rhythms of ‘Lavender Luv’ cast our minds back to a simpler time when the sun was setting and the sand was still warm between our toes. 

‘Sweet Pea’ completes the release with a wubby piece of blissful Balearic; no sudden movements, swaying in the turquoise vibe as teardrops roll into the ocean.

Between 1 April 2022 and 30 September 2022, food banks in the Trussell Trust’s UK-wide network distributed 1.3 million food parcels to people facing hardship – this is an increase of 52% compared to the same period in 2019. Half a million of these parcels were distributed to children. The charity says that for the first time, need for emergency food is outstripping donations as the cost of living emergency is leading to a drastic increase in the number of people turning to food banks for support. 

With this situation being more urgent than ever, Vief are delighted to announce their 2nd charity compilation will be raising funds for the Trussell Trust. Not only providing incredibly vital, immediate support to people facing hardship, the charity also works tirelessly towards the goal of ending the need for food bank in the UK. 

Spanning genres and tempos, reticulation stands as the label’s most ambitious project to date, and owes its thanks to the immense talent and generosity of the 20 producers involved. 

SDS Max does what SDS Max does best. Expertly crafted breakbeats sat amongst top notch synth and bass in equal measure – that’s all that needs to be said!

After a brief hiatus, London’s Miriam return with Maerc’s debut effort, the ‘Innershade’ EP. The four track offering is complete with two original tracks and a pair of Oskar Offermann remixes to accompany the impressive first outing for the Italian producer. 

The EP’s title track opens up the flip side. Maerc’s ‘Innershade’ employs textured, deep grooves on the low end with sub-oceanic synth work leading the track’s danceable rhythm. Completing the release, again we have one of Offenbach’s proudest sons providing his imitable interpretation for the EP’s closing stanza. Big drums drive Offermann’s ‘Tribal Mix’ with a prime Green Velvet-eqsue dose of acid squelching atop creating an altogether tension-ridden peak time head spinner to wrap of Miriam’s fifth release.

As he'll happily tell you, Eddie Fowlkes has been DJing for 42 years. That's a long time for anyone, but especially for someone who never really stopped. From his early records on Juan Atkins' Metroplex record label through to newer releases on his own labels City Boy and Detroit Wax, he's been doing his thing and staying true to himself and his timeless combination of Detroit dance music genres. He doesn't always get his dues alongside his fellow Detroit techno pioneers in the Belleville Three, probably because his sound was always more hybrid, a blend of techno and house that he would come to call techno soul, including on his landmark 1993 album with Moritz von Oswald and Thomas Fehlmann, The Birth Of Technosoul.

But Fowlkes is still a force of nature, and a master at mixing too, having four decades to hone his craft. You'll hear that skill on his RA Podcast, which comes in the wake of two more prominent releases, for Rekids and Classic Music Company/Defected, that might help (re)introduce him to a wider audience. Touching on soul, jazz and funk, this is functional but deep stuff played by a master selector, whose hands you can always hear in the mixing—a personal, human touch that defines techno soul.

In the constantly evolving scene that is contemporary Grime, where new producers and innovations in sound pop up on an almost daily basis, it can sometimes be hard to keep track. One of the most dependable outlets to arise in the last 12 months has been Boxed - a collective made up of Oil Gang, Logos, Slackk and this week's Hyp Mix contributor, Mr.Mitch. Working as the fulcrum of the scene, Boxed has enjoyed a much talked about run of parties in London, recently branching out to Bristol, whilst also serving up some essential free compilations on the way.

South London's Mr.Mitch has been at the centre of all of this, finding a second wind to a career that had already seen him produce for the likes of Skepta. Now enjoying the benefits of the current focus on producers, he's crafted a unique and experimental sound that often takes in elements of minmalism - with the best example of this being his series of 'Peace edits' of Grime classics. Due to play Fabric's Room 1 on Friday, we got the Gobstopper Records bosss to step up to the plate for this week's mix series. Reeling out cuts from a fresh roster of Grime talent, he also finds time for a few curveballs along the way across 45 minutes guaranteed to break you out of your Monday morning stupor.

Dark0 is the North West London based producer who, alongside the like of Mr Mitch, Slackk and Novelist to name but a few, is at the forefront of the next wave of instrumental Grime music. His latest Fate EP, out now via Gobstopper Records, sees him pay homage to some of his favourite video game soundtracks with colourful synth tones, dancefloor driven bass and incredible drum intricacies. "This mix is basically a collection of nostalgia influenced pieces, weightless productions and scores that have stuck with me. I've always thought a lot of the music used in games is very underrated in terms of their depth and ideas and doing this mix gave me the opportunity to include some of my favourites. One in particular is a game called "Tyrian" - a space-shooter filled with mad colours and beams and has this weird tragic storyline. I based the premise of the mix behind this - its about being lost in space but still feeling content and somewhat close to home. Hope you enjoy it." Dark0
