Melbourne based artist Dashiell debuts on Felt Sense Records with five hazy cuts, including a remix from Salt Mines co-founder Rudolf C.

Dashiell is a Melbourne born and raised DJ & Producer and a member of production group Menage alongside Sam Brickel, who released a track on Kia's Animalia imprint back in June 2020. Dashiell is a devotee to glitch & minimal musical styles, which shine through in his 'Going Nowhere Fast' EP on Melbourne label Felt Sense Records. The EP features a collection of tracks recorded over several years in some of Dash's ever-evolving bootleg studio setups like laundry spaces, and leaky tin sheds. The EP opener 'Aspect' sees Dashiell invite Steeplejack artist Sam Brickell to feature. The track offers fluttering grooves, hypnotic pads and spacey, humming low frequencies before 'Going Nowhere Fast' lays down breaky rhythms, tripped-out fx and twinkling synths underneath. Up next, 'Oxy' takes things into minimal territories as the shimmering bassline fuse delicately with moody textures and dubbed-out vibrations whilst 'Scratching The Surface' features ambient atmospheres, breezy soundscapes and glistening melodies.

To finish, Berlin-based Australian producer and Co-Founder of the Salt Mines label rolls out a loopy remix of 'Going Nowhere Fast' as he blends trippy electronics and murky tonality.

PREMIERE: Dashiell - Going Nowhere Fast (Rudolf C Remix)

On this occasion Soos and NetterSystem deliver us a five song EP full of mist and 90s vibes. From the beginning this work takes us back to a party set decades ago in which breakbeat, techno and the jungle converge generating a series of sensations that are extrapolated. Digital and analog elements are mixed in the same timeline that in the end they reach the same conclusion: move the body.

As the tracks progress, the haze and white noise fill the imaginary space of our mind. Elements of bands like Spiritualized and many vocal samples fill the atmosphere throughout the tracks creating a well-being and at the same time an explosion of energy that causes you to move your body.
On the other hand, it is worth noting the maturity and the way in which sounds are handled in this work. In some parts it feels like being in the lobby of a European hotel: melancholic sounds that take time to mature in a very short amount of time. It's super enriching to hear layers and layers of sound that fall perfectly into place. In some parts the same melancholy takes us back to that time when the city of Leeds and Nightmares on Wax dominated the slopes. On the other hand, Latin America feels very present in the core of this EP.
Without a doubt, a work full of surprises and sounds that are not easily found.

Bartosz Kruczyński - the sometimes-ambient producer also known by his more club-ready moniker, Earth Trax - returns to the Shall Not Fade catalogue with his third full-length album. The Sensual World LP draws from both the moody, industrial soundscape of the cold wave-inspired LP1; and the warmer, more ethereal undertones of its successor. Whilst lending stylistic aspects from both, his latest release maintains their mercuriality and textural complexity whilst at the same time resembling something distinctly new. This 13-tracker sees the Warsaw producer continue to prove himself as one of the most versatile and consistent producers in the game.

Composed and produced during the 2020 pandemic, The Sensual World contemplates eco/environmental aesthetics and recontextualizes the genres that Kruczyński took as a springboard for the inception of his musical career. The aptly-named ‘Dream Pop’ and ‘Fireflies’ use arpeggiated melodies, vocal chops and luscious pads to capture the transportive allure by which early Earth Trax releases have been recognised; whilst later in the record, ‘Pearl’ and ‘Splash’ pair these tropes with those of industrial techno to create two pulsating dancefloor heaters. Elsewhere, the focus is on sound design and rhythmic complexity, with sharp, crystalline acid melodies (‘Metal) and ‘Dreams Made Flesh’’s broken drill beats and epic synths. Whilst other tracks see Kruczyński tap into the ‘bittersweet dance floor moments’ for which he has become renowned over the course of his illustrious career (‘Nowhere’), The Sensual World also offers its listeners sonic respite with some stripped-back, down-tempo slow burners ‘Nowhere’ and ‘Everlong’.

A protean producer who nonetheless has succeeded in helming a truly inimitable and idiosyncratic sound, The Sensual World LP sees Kruczyński cater for everyone - from the emotional ravers to the more hard-faced warehouse dwellers.

Following a debut EP release on Brazilian record label Yellow Island Records and a hypno-house debut album on colourful L.A imprint 100% Silk, California producer Etari readies four air-fresh cuts of club melodia designed for those deep moments in the dance on Running Out Of Steam.

Aesthetics of both artist and label are a heaven-made match; favouring melodic grooves and broken-beats that trigger blissed-out experiences both spiritual and physical. ‘Chemistry’ makes use of broken Baltimore rhythms and blends them with warped, supernatural vocals, feeding into both worlds of melancholy and paradise. 

‘Cinnamon Spice’ maintains the tempo with a fairy-light cut of footwork-electro – a sequence that begs to be lost in, angelic strobes of light beaming onto a looping trip cinematic sound – before the lo-fi house rhythms of ‘Lavender Luv’ cast our minds back to a simpler time when the sun was setting and the sand was still warm between our toes. 

‘Sweet Pea’ completes the release with a wubby piece of blissful Balearic; no sudden movements, swaying in the turquoise vibe as teardrops roll into the ocean.

Pocketmoth presents the second volume of Iti’s club-focused 'Curvework' EP series: Saffron.A functional two-track EP of South Asian-influenced dance floor cuts, Saffron explores the sonic intersection between Iti's cultural heritage and upbringing. Blending punchy skin-drum rhythms with a pallete of snappy electronic percussion and luminous modular synthesis, Iti provides an accessible insight into his personal explorations of culture though sound.

The EP opens with 'Jalil', a thumping 114bpm broken-beat track that quickly alludes to its Arabic meaning of "greatness" "reverence" or "magnificence". Underpinned by powerful low-end production, Jalil combines the cutting South West Asian sounds of the Darbouka & Mizmar with the distinctly south-east Asian Sitar, expressing Iti’s fraternal and spiritual connection to the Middle-East.

Tempos then soar for the EP's title track 'Saffron', nodding to both classic tech house and the percussive elements of Punjabi Garage. Characterised by rolling tabla lines, rhythmic vocal chops and a euphoric ambient passage, Saffron is an unsuspecting technicolour dance floor gem, vibrant like its floral namesake.

The EP also features a remix of Jalil courtesy of Jesse Patrick - one half of prolific Australian techno due X CLUB. In contrast to the heavy techno and breaks that he and co-producer Ben Clarke are known for, the output of Jesse's solo moniker, DJ Speed, provides an insight into his ambient and downtempo sensibilities. For Jesse’s remix of Jalil, he strikes a wonderful balance between his two worlds, reinterpreting Jalil into a solid 4x4 club staple, laden with organ and acid baselines.

The UK offering see’s Cosmic Slop resident billy2chips step up to the plate alongside London based DJ and producer Manami who is fresh off her tour supporting the iconic Bicep alongside talented artist Toby Cato whose work and music may be coming through very soon..

“ Whilst a few tracks on this comp are the product of longer standing relationships ( Yak, Rejoicer, Natty Wylah, Athlete Whippet, Ian DPM, Sally C) big proportion of the tracks are the fruits of Rhythm Section’’s relatively new Label Team - consisting of Emily Hill as Label Manager and Label assistant Ayiesha Smith - who graduated from intern to full on employee this year.

This new blood is reflected in the increasingly diverse mix of selections for this year's SHOUTS, ranging from the “Ori” influenced soul of newcomer Akin Soul to JuJu Rogers’ new wave of Jazzy Hip Hop emanating from Emily's adopted City of Berlin. PREMIERE: Ian DPM - Overheard By The Birds

After a brief hiatus, London’s Miriam return with Maerc’s debut effort, the ‘Innershade’ EP. The four track offering is complete with two original tracks and a pair of Oskar Offermann remixes to accompany the impressive first outing for the Italian producer. 

The EP’s title track opens up the flip side. Maerc’s ‘Innershade’ employs textured, deep grooves on the low end with sub-oceanic synth work leading the track’s danceable rhythm. Completing the release, again we have one of Offenbach’s proudest sons providing his imitable interpretation for the EP’s closing stanza. Big drums drive Offermann’s ‘Tribal Mix’ with a prime Green Velvet-eqsue dose of acid squelching atop creating an altogether tension-ridden peak time head spinner to wrap of Miriam’s fifth release.

The gift that keeps on giving, South East London’s 22a has been consistently delivering quality music for a good couple of years now. Our first dip in the talent pool came with Mo Kolours’ homespun grooves, followed by the vibrations of his brother Reginald Omas Mamode IV – with former Hyponik mix contributor Al Dobson Jr’s lo-fi sample driven Soul soon following. We’ve since been introduced to fellow Deenmamode brother Jeen Bassa, as well as Henry Wu – with each member of the crew connected by musical common ground, yet distinct and creative in their own way.

Somewhat underlooked prior to this point, Tenderlonious is perhaps most closely allied with the sonic aesthetic of the crew. His releases on the label and for Soul Jazz have been expansive journeys into elongated deep grooves and soulful motifs, performed with the sort of gleeful freedom of expression usually associated with Theo Parrish and others. Also an accomplish saxophonist Tenderlonious is also a member of innovative Jazz quartet Ruby Rushton, with an album ‘Two For Joy’ due on 22a at the end of next month. Here on Hyp mix duty this Tuesday, he eases us out of the post bank holiday slump with a special selection of cuts exclusively drawn from the discography of the late great sax man Yusef Lateef. “I’ve decided to dedicate this mix to the late Yusef Lateef as he is the reason I started playing the saxophone.

In 2007 my life took a major turn and I was faced with some difficult circumstances. It was at this time that I decided to pursue the saxophone and develop my understanding of music.

Up until that point I had been producing music using samples from records that I had collected over the years. There was an album by Yusef Lateef called ‘The Golden Flute’ that I had stumbled upon by chance. I didn’t realise the power of his music at first – I spent more time sampling records than actually listening to them; however, it’s relevance soon became apparent to me. His tone was so unique and I found that I identified with it more than any other music I’d heard before. He also had a strong spiritual element to his sound, which I didn’t understand straight away, but I definitely felt a connection. It was a difficult time in my life and I felt quite separated from the world at large. It was in Yusef Lateef’s music that I found solitude, which consequently led to me investing all my efforts into becoming a saxophonist and developing musician. I owe him a great debt. I humbly dedicate my musical efforts to his legacy.

There was an aging writer called Mortise Koshimitsu who lived in a small apartment. The apartment was beset with problems. It was damp, the wiring was frail and in the summer the leaking pipes added a must and swelling to the wood in the windows that effectively countered the joys of the heat. Koshimitsu’s life had been lived chiseling away at circumstance, and circumstances had not proved easy. There was however, one small reliable rush to be had, and it lay through a gloomy doorway, down some stairs and past a register.
