Big one from our reptilian overlord. On a landmark 50th release for the label, Reptant returns to Kalahari Oyster Cult with a one-two punch of cybernetic machine funk.

The followup to 2019’s ‘Phasic Reflex’ EP, ‘Duality of the Gecko’ picks up where its predecessor left off: 2 tracks demonstrating an innate ability to achieve Detroit-styled deepness without sacrificing dancefloor propulsion.

Curdled sci-fi melodies and neck-snapping rhythm take centre stage across both tracks. Nocturnal, mainframe-tapping biz from one of contemporary electro’s foremost proponents.

Especial welcomes new artist DJ 1985 to the label. As so often, the idea of pushing new music has been the raison d'etre of the past decade. An EP of a love for Acid, from the breaks anthem of the title We Trippin’ to exploring the ethereal and even mind-melting Ambient House and Balearic of how the Roland TB-303 has become a fundamental element in the history of electronic music.

Soviet born; Belgrade exile Stanislav is DJ 1985. A man of many monikers, came to House later, originally progressing from Breaks, Hardcore and onto Drum and Bass as DJ Saint Man, a Mixmaster in the truest sense, switching it up to include Ghetto House and Booty, DJing led to producing, finally seeing DJ 1985 emerged to encompass Acid, Bleep, Breakbeat, Chicago and beyond.

A DJ supreme from the old school – check his Boiler Room mix for live vinyl dexterity – his productions nod to Aphex Twin and the Rephlex / UK lineage, the Techno. Electro of masters Underground Resistance and Drexciya and on to Italo, Italian House and early 90s New Jersey and New York’s golden period and of course the masters Kraftwerk, all influence the sounds of this debut EP.

Starting as 808 and 909 Electro and Techno jams, all the tracks are recorded live, MPC, synth and drum machines, no computers involved. We Trippin’ is built around the “Think” break, with trippy 303 line, some 808, synths and off we go “we trippin”.

Dolphin and Sirens was inspired by the Boka Bay dolphins of Montenegro, near where the recording was made. A flotation bath of warm dreamy acid beats and aquatic found sound, fast, shifting breaks, the Adriatic Sea of Croatia and beyond beckoning.

Catland’s title is a nod to Stanislav’s love of all the feline, but the breaks’n’303 cut is an endlessly uplifting spark, celestial, a cosmic evolutionary odyssey.

DJ 1985 completes his debut EP with the aptly titled The Last One. Spherular, mysterious, this rise of spatial breaks is a reawakening of symbolic music that is touched by both East and West. Stanislav’s music intersects, trans-national, almost spiritual and psychedelic. Live jamming, more hearted, the snap electro percussion, dream-laden pads are twinned with an ethereal otherness via the endless possibilities of the TB-303.

Total Electric returns with its second release, 𝘈𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘛𝘪𝘮𝘦 ─ a bold four-track EP from rising producer Zei, backed by a remix from one of our favorite artists, Donnie Cosmo.

Staying true to the label’s mission of embracing all forms of electronic expression, this release merges acid-drenched textures, hypnotic house grooves and trance-infused atmospheres but the synths don’t overreach, the arrangements are patient, and everything feels like it’s been designed with the dancefloor in mind.

It’s an album that doesn’t push too hard but leaves a lasting mark, something that’s built for selectors who know how to read the room.

We’re proud to welcome Zei to the label, sharing not only his musical vision but also pieces of his soul. And we’re equally excited to have Donnie Cosmo on board, reimagining Farum Azula into a starry-eyed, cosmic voyage that closes the EP on a beautifully expanded note.

The Canary Islands might not be the first place you associate with hard-edged Techno, yet this archipelago off the southern coast of Morocco is home to Gilmer Galibard, the recent signing to Lobster Theremin’s Black Label series. His ferocious productions echo the sounds of Ancient Methods, Sandwell District and a more rugged version of the live-orientated Karenn sound. Last month’s ‘Brain Poacher’ EP was a brazen collection of moody Techno that had as much rugged groove as it did layers of haze and noise, setting up future Galibard projects as a very exciting prospect.

On his captivating Hyp mix this week, Galibard treats us to the murkier spectrum of electronic music, kicking things off with a haunting remix of M.E.S.H.’s ‘Scythians’ by Keysound Recordings and Tectonic affiliate, Logos. Blawan’s hypnotic ‘Diatonic Valves’, from his recent ‘Hanging Out The Birds’ EP is included as well as cuts from Techno’s old and new school featuring side-by-side, in Ben Sims and Leeds young gun, Happa. Prepare yourself for a breakneck journey…

Thoma Bulwer's Parasol Culture label brings together the 90s influenced, eclectic sound of East London for their first collaboration 'Wick Voyagers Vol. 1'. Featured on the release are artists, friends and collaborators who have all worked with Thoma via his TB Mastering studio in Hackney Wick. The aptly titled compilation captures a moment in time, transporting me back to sunny Sunday sessions along the Hackney canal where you'll find these selectors playing bouncy, hypnotic records, spanning across minimal, 90s house, tech house, and electro. Haunts such as Oval Space, Village Underground, Lion & Lamb, Number 90, and The Pickle Factory all spring to mind and not to mention the famed Sunday afternoon parties at fabric with Villalobos taking reigns of the club. London's rave answer to church. With the likes of Voigtmann, Bobby, N-Gynn, Anna Wall, Robert James, Goodnight Cowboy, Adam Curtain, Subb-an and more featured on the release, it's a brilliant showcase of this particular East London community.

Trouble Maker Records founder Adam Curtain's contribution, 'Pest Control', draws from his typical twisted sound, featuring a looping, trance-inducing rhythm and sci-fi, alienated soundscapes.
