Premiere: Well Being - Mystical Visions [Dance All Day]

On this occasion Soos and NetterSystem deliver us a five song EP full of mist and 90s vibes. From the beginning this work takes us back to a party set decades ago in which breakbeat, techno and the jungle converge generating a series of sensations that are extrapolated. Digital and analog elements are mixed in the same timeline that in the end they reach the same conclusion: move the body.

As the tracks progress, the haze and white noise fill the imaginary space of our mind. Elements of bands like Spiritualized and many vocal samples fill the atmosphere throughout the tracks creating a well-being and at the same time an explosion of energy that causes you to move your body.
On the other hand, it is worth noting the maturity and the way in which sounds are handled in this work. In some parts it feels like being in the lobby of a European hotel: melancholic sounds that take time to mature in a very short amount of time. It's super enriching to hear layers and layers of sound that fall perfectly into place. In some parts the same melancholy takes us back to that time when the city of Leeds and Nightmares on Wax dominated the slopes. On the other hand, Latin America feels very present in the core of this EP.
Without a doubt, a work full of surprises and sounds that are not easily found.

Rhythm Section International curates the third instalment of SHOUTS, spanning a massive 29 tracks, it traverses a vast range of genres from contemporary R&B through to club focused cuts. Encompassing the core of Rhythm Section’s wide sonic imprint, the compilation continues to focus on up and coming producers & artists alongside more established names to shine a light on the exceptional musical talent stirring in 2022.

“ SHOUTS was only ever intended to be a one-off project to celebrate 5 years of the label, but the process of hitting up artists we respect and admire to contribute a track to a compilation ended up being a game changer for us as a label. It turns out we have so much to shout about!

In this world of over subscribed pressing plants, 6 month lead times and increasing production costs, it makes more and more sense to transition this project into the digital realm…”

SHOUTS 2022 sees the label once again travelling across the world to find the most exciting sounds, integrating itself in the emerging soul and jazz scenes of Berlin with RS debuts from Yoofee of the Moses Yoofee trio, neo soul singer Noah Slee and hip hop downtempo jazz producer S.Fidelity. The compilation also welcomes several artists from across the Atlantic including but not limited James Bangura, the DC based producer part of the Black Rave Culture Collective whose dynamic percussion driven productions have taken him on tours across the world on tours through Japan and Europe. The UK offering see’s Cosmic Slop resident billy2chips step up to the plate alongside London based DJ and producer Manami who is fresh off her tour supporting the iconic Bicep alongside talented artist Toby Cato whose work and music may be coming through very soon..

“ Whilst a few tracks on this comp are the product of longer standing relationships ( Yak, Rejoicer, Natty Wylah, Athlete Whippet, Ian DPM, Sally C) big proportion of the tracks are the fruits of Rhythm Section’’s relatively new Label Team - consisting of Emily Hill as Label Manager and Label assistant Ayiesha Smith - who graduated from intern to full on employee this year.

This new blood is reflected in the increasingly diverse mix of selections for this year's SHOUTS, ranging from the “Ori” influenced soul of newcomer Akin Soul to JuJu Rogers’ new wave of Jazzy Hip Hop emanating from Emily's adopted City of Berlin. Long story short, this is a snapshot of where we are collectively at, where we are headed and what we want to shout about.

Ritual Poison celebrates its tenth release with ‘Pharmakon’, a 16-track tape/digital compilation featuring artwork from long-term collaborator Martin Wollerstam. Wth the label started in South London in 2017 by BufoBufo and Corporeal Face, ‘Pharmakon’ welcomes back various members of the RP family while embracing a host of friends and favourites. 

Zodiac Childs and G303 open Side A with the dark, deadly Reese and acid combo of IDM builder ‘Stoor De Zender’. LUXE continues the bumping beats, adding lush pads and vocals on ‘untitled 045’, then Robin Wylie ventures into twinkly-eyed breaks for ‘St Paul’s’, before BufoBufo’s dreamy ‘Distant Lights’ completes the opening movement. ‘When You’re Alone’ by The Something Something Project (aka Kolya and Susan’s Boy) switches the vibe, soaring into gossamer vocal trance, while Local Group unveil a deeper side to their sound, with the trippy breaks of ‘Mandelbrot Set’. Anna Wall & Corbi return to RP with ‘Space Kicks’, epic piano-led breakbeat house, and Ambient Babestation Meltdown combines with Club Glow’s Borai for ‘The Drum Machine (Must Be Stopped)’, an analogue workout that recalls the heady days of electroclash. Escape Earth’s ‘Self Destruct’ is the sound of bass and breaks in existential crisis, while Corporeal Face’s ‘No Longer Have Respect’ is a breakbeat slammer with cosmic alignment. Almaty’s ‘The Peacock Room’ changes tack, re-grounding with emotional acid, N°’s ‘Sink Or Swim’ is mutant dancehall, swaying for one final dance, then WILES’ ‘King Crab’ muscles out the door and into the cold night air with attitude-infused acid chug.

Stories would be told about him one day, that was for certain. As the sun began to set he looked out over his small village and considered his options, might he run away or stay and fight. The light was fading slowly and it felt symbolic of the way in which his own time was running out.

Never had he imagined he might be forced out like this, yet his truth was all that mattered now and the stories that he’d leave behind would go down to be those of mischief and meander. Perhaps it was always supposed to be this way, a Lahla boy running wild and free with no place to go.

Supreems is set to release a new album on the newly launched Sweet Sun. It features a number of emotive electronic cuts channeling elements of broken beat, breaks, UK bass and beyond. This track features vocals from Off the Meds affiliated vocalist Kamohelo.
